I do 2000 miles a month and mine is costing me:

£200 fuel, £11.25 tax, £41.67 insurance, £25 servicing, £25 tyres, MOT £3 = £305.92 a month

Blimey it all adds up

Chris

I have no idea how much MINIs and Fab VRS's cost - can someone give me a price for the MINI cooper and Fab VRS ?

If I wa sin the market for sucah a car and diddnt want 4 seats then I'm sorry, but the Mini would get my vote.

Why? Because with a few cosmetic mods (tints, dinky fog lamps etc.)it looks cool and the Fabia doesnt. No matter how you dress it the baby Skud will either look like a shopping car or a ch*v'd up shopping car.... it will NEVER look cool.

In your opinion of course....unless you are the cool god? which I very much doubt.

I do agree that the mini does look very nice, somewaht cute! I don't want a cute car thanks. and the plastics in the mini2 are low quality but are trying to be high quality, infact someone said the plastics are like the same used with toys, I agree.

I don't think I could spend that sort of money on a car knowing that as standard they have no CD player, no aircon etc. (55 plate COOPER I know of , this may have changed).

the mini is a posers car, the skoda is a thinking man's car, that's not just for the fabia, for the Octy aswell. lets compare the mini to the octy pls, i'd argue for the octy using the same principles as i do now.

In your opinion of course....unless you are the cool god? which I very much doubt.

Octavia Elegance Estate....... need I say more

Octavia Elegance Estate....... need I say more

You did indeed say it all

:feedtrol:

just had to add that in.

I think some peopkle in here just like Fabia Bashing to create a reaction. it's child's play.

I've haven't read all the thread on Mini2 & I don't think I will.

Before I start, I think I should point out that my wife drives a Mini One, so I know how each car fairs. We love both of them equally.

To be honest, I don't care which is better. Different horses for different courses. The Mini has a petrol engine, the Skoda a diesel.

The Mini is a 3 door, the Skoda is a 5 door.

IIRC, Top Gear only tested them together because they cost around £12K each.

Take your balanced, informed views and please leave the thread! There is no place for that sort of stuff here !

;):D

I had a mini cooper, one of the last built, so I really did want a new Mini, loved the look, but there was less room inside than the old one, particularly behind my seat, admitedly because the originals seats did't go back far enough  Hac another look at them a year or so ago just before I was off driving and looking at the 1 - 2 year old examples the plastic silver trim was showing its age the seats where all baggy....... Even the fit and finnish on the showroom examples didn't seem to be quite there, coupled with all the known faults troubles that had appeared on the net, the cost of speccing up and at the time a octy vrs was cheaper than a std one both new  no contest I was set on the octy but then laid off driving so decided after that to get the octy2 and a fab, having allready had a fab before. In a couple of years may look at the new cooper s depending on the new fab or Joyster when time comes to change, Don't be fooled by the Mini tho it aint a mini and it doesn't handle like a mini, and it won't go down narrow lanes like a mini. Probably won,t dump oil like a mini either but if it does you won't be able to fix it using a pocket knife either:rofl:

yes and on that note i'd buy the skoda any day for that money, you do get a cd player! I wonder if a rear view mirror is an option for the mini?

I did like the mini but if it was my money (which it is/was) I would buy the Fabia everytime, but don't get me wrong the mini is a nice car.

If I had money to burn and wanted to a car for weekend drives then the cooper S would be good. or I could cut my losses and fit eibachs S&D ,remap, 312mm brakes FMIC and i'll be in cooper S territory then. but it's would look as cute I agree

before we start MINI bashing....... has anyone actually sat in a MINI and compared the interior with the Fabia ?

IMHO the MINI just looks nicer and feels like a more "grown up" car than the Fabia (even though there is less space)

I had a 30 minute test drive in one, when I was making a choice on what to buy. The Mini is a looker, although they are everywhere now, and this magical resale value it has, perhaps, magical. It was a Mini Cooper Chilli, specced up to

A former colleague of mine once remarked:

"When I was back in Newcastle I lived like a KING! I had a flat and a Mini!"

You did indeed say it all

:feedtrol:

My comments were not "Fabia bashing" - I am just a little concerned that people can sometimes be a little blinkered and naturally defensive of the car they have bought.

If you went on a Pugeot forum and compared the Fabia to the 206 GTi they'd all say the Fabia was a pile of poo. An MG Rover 25 driver would probably say the same.

Why is it that as soon a car becomes popular that is seen by some a bad thing? DVD players are very popular so does that make them worse than a VHS player ? No.

If the MINI handled like a nose heavy pig, rolled over quicker than a labrador wanting its belly rubbed, leaked when it rained, misted up if you used the air-con, had poor brakes, stuttered like Arkwright and had seats that frayed or creased within a few months it would be less popular.

Its the same with Imprezas, and the Focus ST will no doubt follow the Subaru.

I posted the link because it was interesting to see the mini owners comments - both biased and free-thinking. Remember the vRS bettered the Mini, and both cost about the same.

I looked at a mini, but found it way too expensive for what you got. I'm seriously happy with the Fabia vRS and modding it has been providing me with a lot of fun and some knowledge.

Plus I've gotten to know some really special people on this forum as well.

Overall - I chose well between the two I feel. Don't get me wrong - I'm not bashing the Mini, I looked at it.

Real world tho' the Fabia vRS is the better choice.

Above is my humble opinion - clean version - "opinions are like elbows, everyone has at least one..."

Cheers

Bas

The thread is over two years old.It has been discussed before,a little bit....;)

Can't even remember the point of it now.Was it diesel v petrol and showing how things have changed

Real world tho' the Fabia vRS is the better choice.

But in the real world, people are badge snobs, cars are seen as status symbols, image and being able to switch the roof colour is seen as important so neither is the better choice in the real world ;) Horses for courses.....

Chris

If I had money to burn, I'd have got an MCS. Not a One or Cooper - like Oliverreed said, you'll always be justifying why you've not got the flagship model.

I've driven a few New Mini's from Pioneer's Soul laden One with a stupid amount of ICE and cow hide, to the One D and Cooper S. I'm 5'11 and there's plenty of room in there for getting in and out.

I had a noisy modified Corsa and wanted something that was about as fast but was also sensible as standard. The Fabia vRS fitted the bill perfectly.

Not true :P

Goochie you appear very nieve, Manufacturers of cars as a whole have faults/issues with every car they make, which are highlighted on sites like briskoda. A big percentage of people on here probably joined up because they had a problem or something they wanted to resolve.

Have a look on every other forum for car enthusiasts, you will see a pletherer of outstanding faults on their sites too.

So yes you was Fabia bashing, but it didn't work one bit.:P

 Skoda Fabia VRS  BMW 1/2 Series (aka MINI)

I wonder how many people from the mini forum are now linked to a thread on a skoda site reading about people defending the Fabia vrs :D

I have sat in a mini cabrio when I was looking for a new car before I got my vrs. The visability is pants imo, but I did like it

Nothing compares to the driving experience of a real (old) mini though ;)

Hairdressers.

Can anyone actually find the video that this all started from? I've seen the Top Gear one, but I begrudge paying 99p to see a video I only want to watch once!

Quick break down of my costs. Average around 10K miles a year now.

Fuel 2x tanks £80

Tax £8.75

Insurance £77.90

MOT £3.34

plus brakes, clutch, serving, tyres etc £44.18

Total £214.17

Intresting a Clio 1.2 16v costs about £191.55

it amazes me how sanctimonious and self righteous skoda drivers can sound, for someone popping into the forum we as a whole could come over as complete to55ers that hate every other car and think that our car is the greatest in the world
