The first REAL new Octavia picture!!

The only thing I'm not sure on is the interior with a large screen in the console.

This would seriously limit the options for upgrading the stereo which is a major consideration for me when choosing a car.

I'm sure that's just a picture of what an L&K sat-nav interior would look like. It still looks like a standard double-DIN gap instead of the integrated design stereo you see in most other cars these days.

Its a bit of an odd shape , but hopefully it has a standard fitting behind it for upgrades. I don't think I'd buy a car with nonreplaceable audio , especially if it sounded like the one in the current model.

If it's fitted with sat nav the audio control are usually part of it......may be there'll be Bose option.

A quick fantasy thought for the release of the new vRS...

223 Bhp/ 255 ft/lbs torque 20V Turbo, 4X4, tiptronic gear change.

Yep! That about covers it!

Does anybody knows when we could buy the new Octavia...???My father wants to buy a new car and i hope if there is a chance for new Octavia in this year (2004)...!!!I thing he can wait only until the end of summer...!!!Also......is there an idea of the price....???

Ewww, not triptronic!

I'd prefer 2.0 FSI Turbo (About 250 BHP "stock"), four wheel drive, easy to clean alloys, black carpet, konig seats, similar brakes to the current vRS.

Fabiamaniac,

Should be around september time when they start appearing on the road. So ordering should be before then.

So I gather you will be looking for a manual-box second-hand S4 then, Rob? Rare find if you get one...

If possible. To be honest, with a new child and a downturn in IT that shows no signs of abating, my plans to buy an S4 in a few years' time may have to be delayed even further! I may have changed my mind about what I want by then anyway!

Perhaps the new Audi dual-clutch paddleshift might be good enough, but if it were anything else, then I'd have to plump for manual.

The dash and screen look exactly like the new golf. I too was dubious about the possibility of changing the stereo, as the screen might also do the climate control. I guess the aftermarket manufacturers must be doing so serious r&d if they want to stay in business!

cheers

What a relief ! - these latest pictures are a lot more pleasing to the eye than the non official pictures. I had a look on the Skoda Media site - the pictures are on there so I guess they must be genuine -- that interior looks great, kind of a cross between the new A3 and the new Golf - understandable as they are basically the same thing!

Quick PSP... will try RS over weekend...

I think it's OK - the current model is certainly no looker. Problem on that pic is the black "chin" - makes the face of the car look like it's sitting too high. I guess if it was colour keyed the front may look rather slab-like...

Is there definately going to be a vRS model in the new model's line up, or is it known yet?

I'd be surprised to see one, as Skoda only produced the vRS for the purposes of WRC homologation. That's why they made the Fabia vRS, and partly why there's no Superb vRS! In short, they won't need to make it.

Still we can hope. With a 2.0 FSI Turbo (developing, say, 230-250 BHP) and four wheel drive, and with their rally achievements, Skoda would have a credible Impreza rival on their hands. Here's hoping VAG let them go for it!

But...isn't most of vRS the same as the other Octavia's (ie. body shell, etc.), and the engine in the Fabia vRS doesn't even use the same fuel as the rally one...so how does that work?

Rob.

Just looks like a mini Superb to me, and I have to say I think it looks better than the current Octy, which I think is looking a little thin compared to the current vogue of big sided cars.

The homologation rules are pretty complex, but the basics are that the manufacturer must build a certain number of a certain model of roadgoing car to qualify for the WRC. That car forms the basis for the rally car. The engine can be chosen from anywhere in the manufacturers' range. Naturally, the final car bears almost no resemblence to the roadgoing version by the time it's been modified, but those are the rules.

Skoda switched to using the Fabia as their WRC car, launching the Fabia vRS in order to qualify. Until then, they had no need to build one, and therefore didn't. We can live in hope, but I suspect that in future, we will either see no Octavia vRS at all, or at best a horribly neutered one.

According to Autocar a RS and 4x4 are being planned.......

...I would also say although Skoda may have initially built the Octy RS for homologation purposes, it's stiLl producing them.

206 GT was a proper homologation model as it was a limited run and had the longer front bumper.

Furby RS has the bigger front bumper to bring the WRC upto the minimum (?) required length.

Having looked at the pictures, the shape of the new Octy is growing on me immensely.....

As for the debate over the new vRS, the Driving section of the Sunday Time says 2005 for the vRS and 4x$ version.

Armed with such gossip, i talked to a well known Skoda dealer sales team, and, 2005 is about right for the new vRS, and the words "Two litres", "Pumpe Duse Tubro Diesel" and "190BHP" where heard very very clearly......

Looks like that chap has just made a future sale with me

And then he said "and for about

I can't imagine a 200hp diesel car not having 4WD to cope with all that torque...

How about an uprated 2.5 V6 tdi with 4 wheel drive?

My boss has a new VW transporter with this engine producing 174bhp

We saw off a Mk2 Golf Gti in it about a month ago.

Guys, have any of you has saw the new Audi A6 on the front page of www.vwvortex.com ??? Check the front/boned similarity with the new Skoda.
