Creaking suspension on Octy II

Featured Replies

I think it's some sort of jacking point, possibly one used in the factory.

Right , here's the latest update.

The local dealer have tested another MkII 2.0TDI and it *doesn't* creak when going over bumps so they aren't going to call this a "characteristic" - like I'd have been wasting all this time if it was normal.

Their next plan of action is for the car to be booked in at their other branch in Rugby where they have a master technician to look at it. The trouble is that they want it for four days and the earliest they can now look at it is in september.

I've asked for a decent sized courtesy car this time instead of a C2 but the best they can offer me is a Citroen Picasso which I'm not looking forward to at all , but there's no way I'm driving all over the country in a roller skate. I've had enough of re-arranging my work so that I can stay local to the office when my cars in for work.

Skoda customer services didn't really seem all that bothered about this. They kept using phrases straight from the big book of "customer services for beginners" like "I understand what you are saying Mr Cook , but........."

This problem is now almost a year old on a car that's 16 months old , I've taken several days off work , made dozens of phone calls , had at least ten visits to garages and I'm still no closer to getting it fixed.

It's certainly the last time I'll be buying a Skoda and won't advise anyone else to waste their money either.

Mine next step is to have the Skoda Ireland Tech have a look to see what he thinks. Hopefully after 4 days they should find something. I haven't been able to book mine in yet, must do it next week.

Must say it is unacceptable, especially compared to a make with a Alfa GT, they bent over backwards for issues he had......it would make ya consider going Alfa :)

Yep , I'm very unimpressed by the way Skoda CS don't seem to be doing anything at all to resolve this.

The workshop manager at the dealer seems genuinely keen to fix the problem , especially as the car wasn't bought there but his techs don't know what it is and he needs assistance. Unfortunately there seems to be nothing forthcoming from Skoda and I've got no faith in them resolving this at all.

Maybe they haven't a clue either, hence the bury head in sand and it might go away, a bit like the rear seat release clips saga, I was told months ago the factory were looking at it but ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has come about of it.

Well , so far I know of three people that bought Skodas as a direct result of my recommendations.

I'm sure I can convince at least that many people not to buy them in future if needs be.

Oh dear Oh dear, Mine has started creaking again after a four week holiday. Creaks when turning to left, creaks when braking, creaks over bumps and you can now hear it with the window open - and no-one else with this problem is getting any help at all it seems.

Is there anyone else apart from Dr Zoidberg, Gaff and me with this problem.

I would NEVER recommend Skoda (or at least the octavia II) to ANYONE after this. I will go back to the dealer but frankly, I work too hard, the wife and kids need the car all the time and it's a right P in the A - I don't have the energy now. I have seriously been considering selling the car, but who is going to buy it if on a test drive it creaks like it does now?

Maybe Skoda would like to buy it from me at market value and they can use it to solve the problem for everyone else.

Olly

If only it were so simple........

Right , here's what may be the last update.

It went in to Brooklyn Skoda in Redditch again this week and they've had it for three days and are convinced they have fixed it.

They traced it to bushes on the suspension arm and have replaced the whole thing. I've been for a 10 minute drive round and it seems to be silent. I'm reserving judgement till i've got home and gone over all the speedhumps but it's looking promising so far.

Fingers crossed, maybe keep us updated over the next few weeks. I can't get mine sorted at the moment but in a few weeks I'm gonna be chasing up a few issues including this.

Fingers crossed Dr Z.

Suprised there isn't a Technical Bulletin about this - it seems pretty widespread.

Right , good news and bad news.

The creak seemed to be coming from the left hand side , and that's where they replaced the suspension arm. This is now silent and a huge improvement. It had got to the point where it wasn't just speedhumps but minor dips in the road that would set it off.

Unfortunately I can now hear a creaking noise from the front right when I go over speedbumps. It's much quieter than the left was , but it is definitely still there and I expect it will get louder with time as the left did.

I'll be back at the dealers tomorrow morning and having a word. I'm hoping that they will accept this and replace the same parts on the other side without arguing as I don't want to be making repeated trips again.

Oh , and Gaff , I'm sure that if your dealer phones mine and asks to speak to Jason , they'll let you know what they have done exactly

Any change when your in you could ask for Part numbers for stuff replaced  . I doubt the boys here would ring Ireland :(

From your description was it Bushes on the Suspension arm or the Whole Suspension Arm itself that was replaced (just so I know what I'm talking about)

They replaced the whole lower suspension arm , not just the bushes. I'll try and get part numbers for you.

It is still creaking (just been out for a test drive) but it now seems to be coming exclusively from the right hand side so I'm hopeful that I'll soon be creak free.

As it happens I've had a message from someone at the dealership who's taken the time to check on here and see if it had worked (much appreciated ) and they are ordering the part for the right hand side to fit next week.

As usual , I shall report any further developments.

Wow, Fair play to them for checking on here and keeping in touch with you

Was there something in particular they noticed with the lower suspension arm to go down that route ? If I have the reasoning behind it I can explain it better to my dealer ;) I'm afraid mine will get a spray of lube then give the same crap after a few months :(

If the person from the dealership sees this, any info they can PM me would be appreciated

Right , hopefully this will be the end of it.

The arm on the right hand side has now been replaced as well so I should now have an entirely creak free car , though I won't know for sure till I get home.

For those that are interested , the parts are 1K0407151AA AND 1K0407152AA

Having just got back from CZ, last weeks Autocar's long term Seat Leon Cupra has got suspension creaks in the same conditions, ie speed humps.

See what happens.

Glad yours is now sorted

Just drove home over the speed humps and it's now totally silent , more than one year after it started.

I still can't relax though , as I'm tensing every time I go over a bump expecting a noise.

Interesting to hear that the same problem is affecting Leon's - I expect it will be common parts.

My Mk1 octavia was silent after 82k miles.

There was no way I was going to put up with it on a car with less than 10k , and if you'd heard how loud it had got I doubt you would either :)

sounds like you need to get it auctioned off, and get shot.

It's silent now and still under warranty - it's not going anywhere for now but I doubt it's replacement will have a Skoda badge
