Speakers for a Furby VRS

Featured Replies

Right then chaps, I've had a good hunt through the excellent Briskoda forums :thumbup:and I feel pretty confident that I can change the front speakers in my Furby VRS - However I'm now stuck on what to get !

Has anyone had any experience of the Pioneer TS-1785 ? (TS-1785 Pioneer Custom-Fit Speakers - Car

Sorry - cant help with your question, but I'm sure some Fabia owners will be along soon with advice.

Can I also point you in the direction of this thread - one member (helpmedisappear) is looking for some old Fabia vRS front speakers - you might be able to help him out if you change yours

Cool cheers !

Anyone out there ??

I changed the head unit and found that the OEM speakers improved drastically. You might consider changing the head unit first and seeing whether you still need to change the front speakers.

Hiya Bryand... sorry forgot to mention I already have upgraded the head unit to an alpine CDR-9853R and it has made a huge difference.. however is shows up the shortcomings of the OEM speakers.

Cheers

I have a set of Gensis Audiphile A16's in the front of mine. Good kit, sound very good but cant take alot of clout.

Anymore recommendations or opinions on the Pioneers ?

Have you looked at Alpine Type R's? I had the older versions and was running 120watts RMS through them and they sounded great (until they blew 2 years later lol)

I'd be interested in Alpines... but I'm sure I read that there are depth issues with them ??

Update on the speakers....

It took a bit of time to tweak the HU to get the sort of sound I wanted. I'd just nicely got that done when, oh no ..... a rattle !!! from inside the door  It took a bit of time to locate the location of the rattle, found it had to be one of the screws holding the new speakers in.

I had already decided that when the weather gets better I would get some sound deadening materials and do the doors, but this rattle was a pain ! So I decided to invest in a couple of Xtreme Dynamat Wedge packs now rather than wait.

It took me about an hour and a half per door, and all I can say is WOW! :D The difference in the sound is incredible. Very tight bass etc. The doors are now perfectly rattle free and shut with a satisfying thunk sound.

The only problem is ...... the rest of the car could do with dynamating !!!!

I second that, I changed the standard head unit for a Jvc and planned to do the speakers later but they don't need doing as they sound much better than expected, the standard unit is the weak link.

wondering atm whether to do my speakers as ive changed headunit and put two subs in, thinking for the mean while till i can afford a full set of quality speakers to replace the lot ill probably just dynamat the doors for now to get rid of the rattles

I used bodyline and flashing tape. WOW it makes a big difference. Outer door skin is rock hard

I've done the lot... Headunit, speakers and Dynamat....

Changing just the HU.... made a bit difference, everything much clearer... OEM speakers couldnt keep up though.

Changing the speakers.... speakers kicked out too much bass.. it just sounded boomy etc... however much clearer sound.

Added the dynamat.... bass as tight as a duck rear, sweet treble... + doors are solid and rattle free

DickyHillary,

A couple of questions, 'cause I think i'm going to copy your set-up! (apart from the head unit)

Did you end up buying the speaker adapters for the front or did you do the DIY MDF alternative?

Also, did you also put the tweeters in the original location?

Cheers

Si.

Hi Simon, I just bought the adapters from CAD at the same times as my HU however you can also pick them up from halfrauds!

The tweeters do fit behind the covers perfectly, just need a little blob of glue to hold them nice and tight. I broke on of my covers due to being a big too rough when clipping it all back together, so I've trimmed one of them with black speaker cloth and I have to say it looks OK, just need to find the time to trim the other side.

Hope that helps

Rich

I wish I was practical and could do stuff like this but I know in my heart that i'd end up with a car with no doors or speakers.

I upgraded the HU and had one of these installed by a local stereo fitter and it improved things no end but I know what you mean about the speakers being left behind. I keep the amp on the sub not to loud to counter the lack of power in the door speakers and it seems to work well. This thing kicks out some quality bass. I must add i'm more interested in sound quality rather than volume.

.:VIBE:..:Vented Innovative Bass Enclosures:.

For someone that is not practical and does not want to mess with the doors the HU & sub really is worth the upgrade.

I'd be interested in Alpines... but I'm sure I read that there are depth issues with them ??

have alpine tyre s's and sound good + have good multi directonal tweeters

also have a alpine active sub in the boot makes so much differance takes up so little boot space

(only

I decided not to get a sub,

Simon thats the route I took, as boot space is important for me. The only problem I encountered was the speakers that I choose (Inifinty Kappas) were 2ohms and required an amp to drive them.

I am extremely pleased with the sound that the system produces, esp as I found a switch on the amp which has effectively turned the 6x9s into poor mans subs.
