Rear Fog Lights

Featured Replies

I used the Fog lights on my Fabia today for the first time (only had car 2 Months).

I noticed only the right hand one illuminates, i know most cars nowdays only have 1 fog light & 1 reversing light, but of course the skoda has 2 perfectly good reversing lights........... and i guessed 2 rear fog lights (integral to the tail light cluster).

I checked the bulb in the non working one, there is a stop/tail bulb fitted with all the nessary contacts to supply the power to it.

Im guessing it cannot be wired up or connected in the factory to the fog light circuit, is this right?

or am i going back to the dealers for a moan!

if only one side is wired for this country, how stupid to have the fittings but not connecting them, it's like having 4 wheels but only 3 touch the road.

Should they both work? or only one?

The only lamp required to work by law, is the offside one. To get the other working you would need to run a wire between both light clusters.

If it has a "stop&tail"bulb, then you are looking at the wrong light ! as a fog light should just have a single filiment lamp, normally 21W

Well, in sweden it is not allowed to have more than 1 fog ligt backwards in new cars, so even if u had 200 connections ready, u are not supposed to wire in them at all.

Its just there ready to be used in countries where its allowed to use 2 fogs at rear end.

The Rear Tail light doubles up as a fog light using the 21W filament as the fog lamp illumination, and the 5W filament as the tail light.

The Brake light bulb is the 21W single filament bulb, which is also used in the reversing lights, this is the Indicator type bulb style (clear type not the amber varnished version).

I ran a wire from the working-side fog to the other behind the boot trim.

Works fine. If you do a search there's details on Briskoda...

...and that is how it should be. 2 Rear fog lights as you so rightly say, can be very easily confused as being brake lights.

Leave the other one dis-conneted mate, for your own safety.;)

I've deliberately dis-connected one of the 2 rear fog lights on the wifes car for this very reason.

Good advice.

While youre at it, disconnect the front ones. NEVER needed!!!! IMO.

All you do is annoy others.....Me in particular!!:D

So true Chris. They really do not help in fog do they? Merely a 'fashion statement'

NEVER use mine tbh, apart from flashing them on and off at oncoming motorists who have theirs on when it's not foggy.

As for the rear's, I rarely use those at night time either, unless it's a real 'pea souper.'

The amount of dazzle they incur at night is awesome, and can in fact reduce visibilty even further due to the thick red haze that surrounds your car.

Vast majority of the population are simply sheep IMO. If every one else does it, it must be right/cool/trendy/ SPORTY...doh....whatever mentality. Common sense, and a bit of thought and logic does NOT come into the equation any more sadly.

I agree with the one rear fog thing. Either that or the pairs should be very well separated, i.e. bottom of the bumper well away from the brake lights. However, I think one is just fine. On the Focus it is on the bottom of the bumper, a great design imho.

As for front fogs, I have only ever found them useful once - thick "cant see the hand infront of your face" fog, turn the dipped beams off and the fog lights shine under the fog

Your high-level brake light makes it obvious whether you are looking at brake lights or foglights, and being central it is within your field of vision.

The rear foglights on a Fabia make the taillights look brighter, which is exactly what you want in fog.

Yep must admit over the last 4 or 5 years i've used the front fogs in that exact way....... Driving to/from work down the M18 at 11pm / 5am in absolute pea soupers, (So bad i've trundled along at no more than 30-odd mph!!!), Front fogs and sidelights on as that was the only way you could actually see anything........ As i left our office you couldn't see the cars parked on the other side of our car park which is no more than 20yards across

Mind you the front fogs on the CTR have to be the worst EVER!!!!! They only light up approx 10ft or so in front of the car...... You can't even tell you have them on from the driving position!!!! Wish we hadn't paid the
