actual MPG on VRS (petrol)

Featured Replies

Hi

Has anyone done a comparison between the computer figures and the actual MPG?

Reason for asking is that I do a 160 mile (all Mway) round trip about 3 times per week, sitting at about 70mph on cruise control. Over this distance and according to the computer, I'm averaging between 43-46mpg, which I find a bit unlikely.

I will do a fuel used verses miles done comparison next time I fill up, but just wondered has anyone already proved the computer to be in/accurate?

Cheers

Lance

The only time I ever see 40+ on my average is when crusing at around 50-60 mph - I've never been on a long enough journey below 85 to see figures like you're getting  .

I've discovered that if I reset the 2nd average mpg value when I fill up it will give me a more accurate guage of what I'm getting over a tank full as the 1st setting only monitors the current trip. (Hence why it starts out very low!)

I only get around 300 miles per tank anyway and usually have to put around 49 litres in so that equates to around 28 mpg average which is pretty much what the second setting predicts most of the time.

Didn't expect anything much better when I got this car, especially as my trip to work is hilly, twisty back lanes that just demand gear changes and power  .

43-46mpg? HOW? The most I have managed is about 42mpg average over 100 miles at 60-70mph. Realistically I get around 30mpg, the computer seems to reflect this fairly accurately.

Yes How, i only get 30+ on a good day.

My journeys are only short spurts so i dont get good MPG ever.

At the moment with the weather im lucky if i see 25 MPG.

I really have no idea why that economical, however that is what the comp says.......hence my enquiry. In fact on the long term MPG comp setting it's showing 38.1mpg, which includes town and silly driving. I'm doubtful as to the accuracy of the comp and will do a manual test ASAP.

As for 300 miles per tank, I definitly get well in excess of 400.

I did a 330 mile tank over xmas, but that was only because of family visits up and down the motorway. Running V-power fuel.

Lance, is your second name 'Lightfoot' by any chance?

No Yak, you are getting me mixed up with Gordon.

Must say in all honesty that I do tend to drive very smoothly and am rarely in a hurry.

Best ive ever gotten out of a tank is 320 on Optimax.

Got a nice run out to Kent and got a few more miles out of the tank but nothing major but that might be because i cant do 70 on the motorway

In my Octy I get between 230 - 360 miles per tank depending on the road types and how much right foot I give it

Average is about 300-320 miles per tank :)

My car won't do 70 on the motorway either.

On any open road I have trouble keeping mine under 70*

*kph of course

i get between 24-28 most weeks m ways about 30-35 mpg

i find traffic the problem even on mways it kinda breaks up your flow which has bad results on mpg

I got an average of 27.6mph or 800 miles all motorway in Europe or Xmas, 85 - 100 mph where safe!

Over the last 10000 miles I've averaged exactly 33.9mpg. How do know? My wife says I'm sad, I say that I'm merely keeping track of out money:rolleyes: Either way I keep a record of how many litres I've put in and how many miles I've done. Simple. If you can be bothered to do this it gives an accurate average over however long you do it for.

The annoying thing is though, after many months of meticulous record keeping I've discovered that the computer gives the same reading to within 0.1mpg anyway. So to free up some time and to avoid any more ribbing from the wife I shall now just leave it to the car to work out.:)

I am thinking about a remap on my octy Vrs. Would that help fuel consumption? I have heard that is does! Providing that you can control your right foot that is!!!! ;)

last two tanks ive just bout made 200miles out of my tank, i seriously thought i had a fuel leak, i run on tesco 99ron and it works out to bout 14mpg, that with ten mile round trips to work each day around town and the occasional motorway trip, i think i need to try and control the loud pedal abit better

Well, it seems that either I drive like a girl:eek: , or that my comp is telling porkies................Anyway, I've brimmed the tank tonight and will do again tomorrow night and will be able to prove one way or the other.

If you are achieving 400 miles per tank from a 12 gallon tank (55 litres) then realistically you are returning 33mpg. That's roughly what I was hoping to get from a full tank when I collect my vrs at the weekend.

I usually calculate a real world figure with every car I own so I will post here again after 1 or 2 full to empty runs.

200 miles would only be 16.5 mpg, I hope I get more than that :D

I actually said I get 'well in excess of 400 miles'.

When I filled up tonight the comp predicted 525 miles left.

Lance

My apologies i'd not read that correctly. Well in excess of 400 is even better, I'd be delighted with that :)

Going by your average mpg reading you should manage 457 miles from a tank. That's great.

you must drive like a granny to get well over 400 miles to a tank

On me old vrs the computer averaged about 25mpg when I was doing 32.5.

But the computer on the later car is much better, and the car is more economical on a run doing about 70mph. (ish) I average 35+. And the computer says the same.

I find that the computer is optimistic by 2 mpg or more over distance. My remapped 4X4 Estate has now averaged 32.43 mpg over 20143 miles. For comparison, the manufacturer's combined fuel consumption figure for my car is 31.7 mpg and 35.3 mpg for the vRS.

I used to work it out manually and it was always almost identical to the car's figure so I gave up.

I recently managed just over 700km (about 435 miles) on a tank of Mobil 98 RON fuel. It was a single run from Auckland to Wellington on 100km/h limit roads, mostly using cruise control.
