Featured Replies

Well I can get 4x Toyo Proxes T1-R 205 45 r 15 for

Suspect they'd both be much of a muchness :D Also worth noting, your speedo may be out with one of those sets on as they have different overall rolling radiuses....

Much of muchness?? :S

yeh I realize the speedo will be out BUT it will read higher then the actual speed so that does not bother me as I wont get a speeding ticket because of it.

Changing to lower profile tyres than standard will also look very odd as you'll have bigger arch gaps and will also reduce ride quality. Think carefully before straying from the norm with tyre sizes.

Yes but the car will sit lower - and handle better (?)

And lets be honest - low profile tyres look much better :)

I personally would choose the Toyo T1r's. I have experienced several cars with these fitted, including my own, and they are better in all conditions than the Goodyears. The sidewalls dont give as much for one thing.

O cool I might well take your advice on that...

Unless it's slammed on coilovers it will look terrible due to the bigger gap between the tyre and arch. If you want lower profile tyres you really should fit bigger wheels. Also as the tyres aren't OEM recommended sizes you will have to inform your insurance company.

EDIT: The tyre to arch gap will increase by over 1.5" so will give the appearance you have raised the car by that much giving a 4x4 look.

I have Goodyear F1 Eagle GS D3 on my vrs at the moment. They came fitted with the car and are very good! They ride well and they grip through the corners. I had the Toyo T1-R fitted to my Focus RS and they were very good in all weather conditions. Plus they also lasted for 19,000 miles. On a car that was built to corner and corner I did in it:D They lasted very well!

Its down to personal choice really. I would probably go for the eagles though. We use them on our high powered volvo patrol cars and have never had any problems with them.

to be honest ben, you wont notice any difference in the handling with wider tyres on..... go for 195/50/r15.... you can get the toyo ones for about 35 quid each is you shop around

The new Fiat Panda 100hp has the Eagle GSD3's as standard equipment  . With a car with the mass of a fag packet, and 100bhp, grip on offer is truly incredible.

Having just got 4 F1's and had 4 toyos before I believe the Toyo to be a better performance tyre, but the F1 to be a better allrounder

The F1's have more grip to a point but then when they let go, it's gone! The toyo's are more progressive and controllable. In the wet the toyo's give better traction but in the dry the f1's do.

The Toyos are noisier and the fuel economy was't great compared to the F1's. Wear wise the toyos did 17k and 3 track days. They are still road leagal and are on my track wheels waiting for another outing :D . The F1's, they have only dones 1500 miles but they still look new.

Horses for courses.

I might just go with 195/50/r15 toyos.....

I like my grip to go progressively now all of a sudden lol and I have heard thing about the sidewall not being so good on the F1s.

But i am more then open to more surgestions/ comments......

Last time i was buying tyres for SWIMBO's motor i asked the tyre fitter the same question, he said the Toyos would grip better but the Goodyears would last slightly longer.

Im narky @ my toyos :( Had them on the car less than 10k miles and theyre on the wear markers :(

My old Toyos were ace so dissapointed!

had mine 10k now, 6k was on motorway and they are munched. eagles ahoy, they were swell on my old car

Well I have two new F1 GS-D3's fitted today on the fronts after the wrong sized T1-Rs were delivered yesterday. Long story. Is there any differnce between the GS-D2's and the GS-D3's?

I was making sure that i got my full value for money out of the old GS-D2's this afternoon and found when you really really push it in the dry the back starts to go before the front, is this normal?

I was giving it the beans into a safe clear corner with the fronts driffting a little, but then the back would go a fair bit, followed by the front a bit more to strighten up. Maybe it was the nature of the long swoopie corner but it sure as hell was fun.

I have found this with the F1's. The back end just gets really light!

I have just had 4 Goodyear F1 Eagle GS D3 fitted after wearing out the original Contisport II's. So far I've found the Goodyears to be quieter and have much better grip and traction. The steering is heavier, a good thing, but my fuel consumption is a bit worse, I reckon it's about 3 to 4 mpg down!

Overall though, the GS D3's are a much better tyre than the Contiswhich lasted about 26k.

the Contis lasted about 26k.

 im now about to get set # 3 for the fronts and i'm at 19.5k!!!!

i still got 3 of the original contis on my vrs done over 26k and still plenty of life left in them got an odd toyo on the back and the road noise from it is terrible!!!!!

I tried the GY GSD3s front & back of car, all done at the same time. The front ones have since been replaced (worn) but I found the tyres havent got a strong enough sidewall to keep the car stable at the front.

The rears appear fine as the weight transfer is much less, and then they're ok.

They are also particularly cr*p in cold weather.

In other words - nope I won't be fitting those to the Fabia vRS again ;)

I had the Eagle F1 on the Fabia vRS before the T1-R I have on now. The Eagle F1 are far more grippy, especially in the wet and the cold. The only problem is the soft side walls.

The T1-R aren't bad, but I'd chose the Eagle F1 every time.

umm, Just a personal thought which not many on here would agree with, You can try the new Falken 452's, They're cheape yes but that doesnt mean they're bad, They're the new performance tyres from Falken, Read some reviews about them, I've been using then on my car for a month now (size 205 40 ZR 17) and they're awesome, They grip like anything in wet and dry..

otherwise, go for Toyo

I had Falken 512s on my last car and was very impressed with them for the money, think I will give the 452s a go when I'm replacing my tyres....thanks for the heads up :)
