Weather Alert - Snow

This doesn't seem to have been mentioned, so just in case any of you have missed the news / weather reports, most of England and Wales are due for a reasonable dump of snow through this evening and into tomorrow (times vary according to location). I think it's affecting as far North as the lakes, with coastal areas in Southern England being milder and less likely to be such an issue. What with the cold weather we've had today, and likely frost again prior to this snowfall, untreated roads are likely to see a covering.

The MET office website isn't working at the moment (too many visitors:rolleyes: ) but they did have a map showing the likely intensities.

Here's the MET office info we got forwarded at work:

Regional risk assessment for the following areas

- East Midlands(70%)

- East of England(70%)

- London & SE England(70%)

- SW England(70%)

- West Midlands(70%)

- All of Wales(70%)

- NW England(60%)

- Yorkshire & Humber(60%)

- NE England(30%)

- All other regions less than 20%

This is the first warning of disruption due to Heavy Snow. The Met

Office is expecting a period of heavy snow to develop across

Southwest England and much of Wales during Wednesday night and this

is expected to extend across the Midlands, London, the Southeast of

England and East Anglia during Thursday morning. There is also a

risk that the snow will extend into parts of northern England for a

time before dying away from all areas during Thursday afternoon.

Accumulations of 2-5cm are expected quite widely inland, with

10-15cm possible for parts of the Midlands and Wales. Rain is more

likely close to southern coasts where less cold air is expected. The

period of snow could cause disruption to travel networks, especially

across high level routes and the fact that timing of this event will

coincide with the morning rush-hour.

Drive safely folks.:)

well, all I've done is park facing the other way, downhill for easy exit off my street (cos its NEVER gritted) If previous years are anything to go by, even 1cm of snow and they shut the schools around here, so kids are praying for snow, me,I'll just leave my car and walk to work, its only up top of the big hill, that's if I can manage to walk up it:D

Well if does snow, I have agreement from work to sit here at home and beaver away instead. Work is more than 30 miles away, they even put a notice on the intranet regarding not traveling unless neccessary.

Good Idea that...........Just like the railway, sit and beaver away, usually miles from home as the network comes to a stand. Half an Inch should do it.!!:)

I'm going to be going to Birmingham tomorrow to carry out some (external) cabling work on the new hospital :(. Got to drive there from the North East!

Would any of our contributors in Birmingham keep me updated with snow depth please?

Cheers!

That sounds a reasonable agreement . . at our place, if you can't get into work because of weather, you have to take the time as holiday.:finger: Working from home isn't an option really . . .

I'm a contractor, with no facility to work at home at the moment

I'll look out the window in the morning and if it's bad I'll go back to bed; I don't get paid for being stuck in traffic so I'm not getting paid I may as well stay at home :D

Great, it's my day off so will hope for snow & go play with the 4x4 :D :D :D

When I was small we had a village chemist shop & lived 5 miles away. Dad never missed a day due to weather, & even delivered to folks who could not get out.

These days we get a flake of snow & were told to stay indoors, dont drive etc.

still nowt to speak of here in Warrington, snow-wise..... just saw a few flakes drift past my window but that's about it!

So much for heavy snow..... unless of course it decides to layer it down later once I've made it to work ;)
