Vrs Mpg

Featured Replies

hi all what is the best and worst MPG you get in you vrs best i have had is around 56mpg but my engine is still rather new not sure what the lowest is, havent tryed yet.

56 mpg on a long run, with a fair bit of gentle running at 55-60 in sixth, but some 80-90 motorway. 29mpg crawling in low gear and stop-start in the snow.

Probably about 45-48 average. Mines done 18k miles.

Ive had well over 60mpg on motorway driving the cars done 9k and nicely run in

I got 33mpg over a 100 mile run once. Obviously a short distance in wall to wall traffic makes for ****e mpg, but generally speaking I have to be trying REALLY hard to get less than 42mpg.

Averaging about 45mpg overall.

according to the trip computer anyway

Mine's according to the computer, but I checked it against a brim-to-brim fill and it's fairly accurate.

E-E is right- heavy traffic screws it.

I'm averaging around 48 - 50 mpg and getting about 490 - 510 miles from a full tank.

Not quite hit 'book' figures as yet. Done 10k since I bought it six months ago (used, now about 19k on the clock overall).

42 ish from vRS - very local mileage, car barely warming up

Worst was about 24 mpg when trashing the living cr*p out of the car in every gear used, braking very hard and standing on the accelerator again type crazy driving.

This was when I was trying to find out worst mpg.

Best (indicated, average) was 58 mpg when following someone who was sticking to just below 70 mph on a long journey. Very relaxing journey somehow and fuel economy was awesome.

That said generally hit high 40s :)

I've had 67 mpg, when driving in very concentrated 'economy' mode, just trying to prove that a good diesel can outdo a prius! lol...

worse was last summer at a mini-meet sheffield, left it in the carpark with g/f and hc in there enjoying the aircon (was VERY hot outside) the engine was just running the aircon for about 3 hours! lol... got 18 mpg by the time I was home! :(

i get around 500 miles when the light comes on.never really watch the mpg.i had a 1.2 htp and i remember it done about 380 miles when the light came on.

Here's my figures for the last couple of months

No remap, car is standard other than PD160 intake. All in all averaging 44.74mpg which should improve during the summer. Each day I drive like a Granny to work (20miles each way), the trip always indicates 50-60mpg in each direction. At weekends I do about 100miles of less than careful driving. :D

The long term trip (number 2 in the display) always indicates about 46/47mpg

400 - 420 till light comes on per full tank pre remap was average. Will see what remap does.

Oh and heres a tip, when filling up if the pump you require has a queue and if there is an empty pump suitable for a nearside filler, then drive up get close and position your backend inline with the nozzle. Get a glove or papertowel for each hand so you can keep the oily pipe off your rear and fill up, with a smug smile on your face.

best 71.1mpg on a 17 mile run to work or 70.1mpg on a 157 mile run down the motorway and A-road to my parents house

worst 22.5 after a track day at Oulton Park , so even after being screwed for 160 miles , the VRS still has better fuel consumption than most hot hatches

I normally get 45 - 50 MPG on the work run. Normally get anywhere between 420 - 450 per tank.

Does just changing the air intake to the PD160 affect the power? I see from fletch555 that the fuel economy is not adversly affected?

According to trip computer i regularly get up to 74mpg cruising home from work. But brim to brim i've never had over 50mpg out of a tank. Strange thing is i probably average about 47mpg overall, but if i drove without trying to be economical i'd still get about 44mpg.

The best I've had was 61mpg on the trip computer on my way down to Goodwood Festival of Speed from Guilford. The worst was 34 mpg on a late night blast from a mates house.

The trip computer is always a tad optimistic as it doesn't seem to register that you've just mashed the throttle for a couple of seconds but does register that you've just coasted. Mine's always about 3mpg higher than what I'm actually getting, which seems to be about 46 /47 average. I've seen 50mpg once (brimming it) but that was a warm week and I was not in a hurry. :)

best Mpg was 68 traveling on 25 mile commute from work when engine was warm. Worst was 29 around the roundabouts of Milton Keynes

The trip computer is always a tad optimistic ...

I'll second that !. Car's only done 1,200 miles but brim to brim has never been better than 41 mpg in a mix of town and motorway, although TC is saying 54. Salesman says TC should be within 10%. I'm hoping that things will get markedly better

BTW my old petrol Passat 1.8 consistently did 35 mpg under the same mix of town and motorway

Mine does 55+ going into work, 45 on the way home. But then it's downhill to work! Best ever was over 60mpg on a weekend run from Scotland to Portsmouth and back with 4 in the car. Even better when you consider the average (moving) speed was about 60mph. Worst? I have no idea, when thrashed, it stays thrashed and I don't look at consumption.

it will get better the more miles on the engine , but it seems the later euro4 emissions cars use more fuel and their trip computers are very optimistic

i've done 640 miles on a tank full , with a range left figure of 30 miles when i filled up again , i have a very light size 10

Worst was 9mpg flat out, foot flat down, over 140mph:thumbup:

average 49mpg around with normal driving.

:)

I noticed I was 2 MPG up after the remap on longer journeys, and 2 MPG down around town.

what on earth do you have to do to get 70!?, drive at 50mph on a motorway thats all down hill and that has your house on the slip road???

Ive never got over 55mpg on a single trip, but would like to know how.

Well, how about:

tyres pumped up properly and tracking right

avoid sudden acceleration and braking e.g. by looking farther ahead and fitting into bigger gaps in traffic.

don't carry unnecessary weight

don't produce unnecessary drag

make sure clutch isn't slipping

use highest gear possible without labouring engine

Use mpg meter to optimise 'throttle' setting

use cruise control on all but uphill stretches

don't use dodgy fuel

keep it clean and polished

talk to it nicely
