My domain name octaviars.com which I registered way back in 2002 expired 2 days ago. The domain was originally registered with doteasy, and more recently with superuser.net. Superuser used to renew automatically every year, except this year it seems that they forgot to both email me and renew it. A quick search on google reveals superuser is now pants for CS, confirmed by the lack of email responses recently.

So, my domain is now in limbo. a quick whois lookup is very confusing, Can someone tell me if looking at the below whois if there is any chance of getting the domain back, it looks unlikely to me especially considering superuser seem reluctant to do anything for anyone.

I have sent an email to dotregistrar.com which is where you now end up when entering the URL, hopefully they can do something.

For the record. my website is still online hosted on my own server.

If I were you I'd sign up to someone like 123-reg.co.uk and transfer the domain in. IIRC it is also possible to transfer domains in that are 'locked' by unresponsive registrars when they send an email to the administrative contact... I'd do a lot more googling if I were you.

Well, it doesnt look like 123-reg.co.uk are able to help. Looks like I'll be saying byebye to my old domain then.

If I register a new domain on 123-reg.co.uk, can I link that to the dyndns record of my home server somehow?.

.co.uk is available and will be cheaper.

Also you should be able to get .com back eventually even if it is expired. You can pay 123-reg to put a watch on it if you're really keen.

Have you emailed dotregistrar, as it says at the bottom of the holding page?

Yes, several times now with no response even allowing for the time differences betweek here and the US.

Strange thing is, I can still logon to the admin interface for superuser and browse my files etc. Just cant seem to get anywhere with the registrar or the hosting company.

Sorry yes there it was in yours second post :o

Well, I have decided to let it go. Shame really as so many other sites around the globe pointed at it. All I need to do is change everything that was using the now defunct email addresses.

123-reg will register a (new) domain for you, and (optionally) you can use their DNS services to point to the actual server. If your IP is subject to change though, then it may be better to take a look at someone like Zonedit.com, who will host your DNS records (for free), and allow updates to it using one of their client tools.

Don't give up just yet Manny. Am asking some people who should know...

You WILL get it back eventually unless someone else nabs it first.

Looks like they're one of these parking services - they renew your domain and then charge you to get it back again - b*st@rds!

I registered octaviars.co.uk, with 123-reg and have put a redirect on it to my home server.

I didnt renew .com, as you say it looks like someone has already nabbed it with a view to sell it on. after some googling it seems to be a domain that may generate some interest somewhere.

It should be accessible now, as the original redirect that 123-reg put on it went to one of their holding pages.

Looks like I'll have the same problems with the 2 I have with superuser then :(

Ah well, looks like slowblackskoda will die a death then when it comes up for renewal. Better clear everything out of it before then.

Ah well :(

If you transfer it before it expires you may have a better chance of keeping it.

John, if you go to someone like 123-reg, then they can initiate the transfer out... unless you're no longer interested in the domain ofcourse.

Another option is to slap them on ebay. I sold 2 of my ex-domains there and recouped most of my registration fees :)

Unfortunately it would seem that it is non-transferable :(

I doubt that. Unwilling registrars maybe, but domains can always be transferred

The biggest issue with superuser appears to be lack of customer services. Reading on the interweb, many users have had major issues and lost domains with superuser because they were unable to get the domain locks released. Superuser no longer respond to support requests or anything for that matter.

That's the problem I have - one of them is my company domain and all my mails go there :(

Would it be worth trying to get a chargeback via Visa for their lack of supply? :D

John - you have a PM. thanks
