312mm Brake Upgrade

Featured Replies

Just bought some 312mm callipers, carriers and EBC Greenstuff pads. Haven’t bought the disks yet was considering 3 options:

OEM Disks

Zimmermann Sports Disc (Cross Drilled)

EBC TURBO GROOVE (Groved and dimpled)

Anyone feedback on what would be the best of the above (considering the Greenstuff pads I’ve got) would be appreciated.

OEM discs are more than adequate.

I'm currently running some of the EBC discs and they are excellent. I wouldn't go with cross-drilled after my previous experiences with them and (old formula) Green Stuff pads :D

If you drive hard, and brake hard - try the tarox G88's. In all honesty, i've never used brakes like them.

I'll have to try some of those G88s one of these days Dave - do sound appealing after what you said about them :D

So my answer is OEM or Tarox

Steve

How much are the Tarox G88's?

Another vote for Tarox G88's, have them all round on the Octy vRs with Tarox fast road pads and Silkolene 2000 ProRace brake fluid....................Brilliant:thumbup:

You like them then?

They are truly amazing. I've had mine almost white hot, and they never ever let me down. I run Tarox Rallye pads in the Fabia with the G88's and can stop the car from 3 figures so quickly it almost hurts. Might do a video later.

30mph - 0 in 2/3 of the cars length.

I like them , and some more:D I had them fitted at Awesome about a week after you had yours done(Octy or Fabia?) in August last year.

No fade, even after repeated hard braking, and totally agree about the stopping power, and what an improvement in the wet, hit them and theres no delay they bite straight away.

Neither Dave or I have any commercial or financial interest in this product..:D

I'd go with OEM discs too. They're cheaper and I've never had fade problems with mine and that's with 4 pot brembos stamping all afternoon long at a track.

I bought mine from euro car parts and it came to under £70 for a set of ATE discs (they're an OEM to VAG). Cheap and reliable

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with the greenstuff pads as my personal experience was pretty bad :)

I have the G88's too, and they rock, not managed to warp them yet either, and I have tried ;)

Just to add something (useful) to this

Get the G88's

Having had the opportunity to give the silver shiftysootmobil a good kicking, i have concluded that the G88's in conjunction with Rallye pads and (in this case) semi-slicks gives the car the ability to remove ones face from ones skull when stamping on the middle-pedal.

They give a level of feedback that my DS2500 and blackdiamond drilled/grooved combination simply could not come close to!.

In daves car i could brake stupidly late, from xxx(km) ;) and the car would stop quick enough to make you go dizzy if you were not ready for it.

I know people may say that the above may come from using semi-slicks, but the key is the feedback and progressiveness of the brakes... you know what they are doing, and how much harder you can push them and knowing you wont be let down as they have a very linear progressiveness.

My DS2500/BD (and now Tarox strada/OE discs) are much much better than OEM pads for this, but the tarox discs + pads blow them away.

anyway.. theres my two penneth...

Dave.. just put the cheque in the post ;)

Dont know how long my discs/pads will last, but will bear this in mind for next time :D

ok can i ask wheres the best site to get em (tarox g88s), and at what price?

also are they only available for the 312mm callipers?

ta

Still on my first set of ebc oem discs. So far lasted over 30K. Cant complain at £65.

Thanks for the feedback

The Tarox G88 discs + rally pads seem the way to go but my budget won't stretch to them:mad:

Didn't really want the Green Stuff pads as I had heard a lot of bad things about crumbling and warping (I know that discs don't really warp but the pads deposit material unevenly on the disc).

Unfortunately the bloke would not sell the callipers to me without them but they are the new formula and my mate has been running some on a focus without problem, so we will see how they go.

After your feedback, I think I might go for some OEM disks and get saving for the Tarox set-up should warping occur. OEM discs are 1/3 of the cost of the EBC grooved ones.

ive looked on some sites, they dont seem to give the diameter. theres the fabia 1.2, 1.4 and 2.0. So im guessing the 2.0 has the same diameter discs as the vrs.

Another question is whether to get them for the rears too and not just the fronts. Since the fronts take most of the loading i wouldnt think it be necessary to get all round (plus it would be bloody expensive lol)

I'm also looking into upgrading my brakes and just wonder are teh Zimmermanns worth the extra over OEMs? Thinking on these 2 since going for the G88's would cost alot more than I can afford atm.
