Bye Bye Fabia & BRISKODA

Featured Replies

Yes it's true, I finally lost the plot with the Fabia after another £600 repair bill in March, so this weekend I parted with it in exchange for a more sensible dependible "ibble" car, a 5dr Vauxhall Astra 1.8 SRi VVT 2006 model with 13,000 miles on the clock.

Bought it for £8999 with a £6,750 p/x value on the Fabia vRS which was pretty good considering the Fabia's condition was average at best and had the marks of 50,000 miles hard use.

Whilst I was initially very sad to part with with car ( so much I couldn't look at it infact, I felt like I was somehow betraying it - strange feeling, prehaps i'm just ridiculously anal  ), but after setting off in the new Astra I felt very pleased with my decision, the condition of the vehicle was excellent all round.

Whilst the feeling of acceleration is obviously not anywhere close to what the Fabia had, it still does go pretty well, certainly when fully accelerating it's as good as a standard Fabia vRS, it just needs to be in the sweet spot, when it's been driven normally it is slower but that's the price you pay I guess.

Space and practicality are it's main +'s, so much more room than the Fabia, but I appreciate it's a bigger car so you expect that...

A bit of a gimmick but still I love it, the "SPORT" button, since the vehicle I bought had the optional IDS+ suspension, it really transforms the handling, it definately handles as good as my Fabia and dare I say better with the SPORT button active.

2 Gripes I do have with the car, is the economy - 36 mpg on the combined cycle so far, hopefully this'll be offset by cheaper cost of fuel (and I only do 10,000 miles a year now) and service intervals of 20,000 miles / 2yrs.

And the cost to tax the vehicle - Thanks Gordon Brown, you PRÍCK.

Other than that I am very happy with my purchase, especially for the price I was willing to pay...

Thank you very much to all you Briskodians who gave me advice and support with both modifying my vRS and fixing problem after problem I experienced during my ownership.

I'll still come on to the site now and then, but i'm now on AON (Astra Owners Network) forum, so your welcome to chat over there should you want to :)

All the best, Chris.

Another Fabia VRS bites the dust - mine goes at the end of week. I think I might be a bit anal too as I do think I'll miss it but I', looking forwards to back pain free motoring with the Roomster.

I normally only get rid when they are due to die, so I feel no remorse.

It was due to die, Tavia - if not by a good thrashing then by a lump hammer as I was so pi$$ed off with it in the end.

What was the £600 repair bill for?

Our Octavia went on Saturday.

The second most un-reliable car I've ever owned and appauling fuel economy.

Hopefully mine should be going this week too!

Dum, Dum, Dum... Another one bites the dust!

At least you're staying in the Skoda fold Josh ;)

Yep - things move on, and that's two vRS owners on here into Astras in the space of a week!

Chris - glad you've got something sorted. You should stay around here - just because you no longer own a Skoda doesn't mean you're not welcome :)

Steve

got rid of mine as well, got 6500 for my 53 plate furby and got a 07 fiesta st with a few options for £11,000, only thing i miss about the furby is its fuel economy, on getting 28 mpg with the st, but i give it stick all the time.

Well keeping mine till it die's.

Have to start a poll in a few years time. "Who's had their vrs the longest  "

I felt the same getting rid of my Fabia, although not a vRS, it was good fun to drive. I'll be honest and say I'm not sure if I've bought the right car to replace it as it just feels slow, compared to the diesel 'in-your-face' acceleration mine had a bit of. I do miss the fabia and would love another if the chance came up again.

I was in an Astra last week, sat in the back, was a nice car actually, lots of room inside for a small hatchback, I was quite impressed.

Had a nice drive of my bros Astra coupe turbo the other week. Even the VX220 driver had fun down the bypass ;)

Surprised how smooth the power delivery was.

Enjoy the Astra.Whether or not you have a skoda,I think this is still one of the best informed sites with 18,000 sensible members!

Might be doing the same.Want to sell the Fabia vRS and get the wife a used Volvo V70 next couple of weeks(keeping my octavia vRS because it is worth about £1)

I agree that Skoda's aren't the be all but -

The grass is always greener..............................

I'll still come on here now and then but i'm enjoying the new one too much at the moment, just a pitty it doesn't have the 150 CDTi engine, oh well...I guess you pay your money you takes your choices :)

Good to hear you're enjoying the Astra. I was well impressed with them... felt better built than the Fabia. Plus its rapid
