Picking my vRS up tomorrow - however, I'm stuck! Help!

Featured Replies

Right, funny one this one!

I've a car which I'm part-exing against my new vRS which is currently off the road, untaxed and uninsured.

I've rang 3 places trying to get a 24 cover note to allow me to get the car to the dealers (obviously not worrying about the tax!), but no-one will touch it!

Anyone any ideas on how I can get the car to the dealership legally (relatively)?

How far is the stealers and what kind or car ??

Book it in at the dealers for an MOT, as long as your car is booked in you can run a motor To/From a MOT test station or to or from a place of repair after a failed MOT, It say's so on the back of a MOT test certificate...........Within reasonable distance of course......I think please check

1. Saxo VTR

2. 10 miles to the dealers

It's the lack of insurance which is concerning me, not so much the tax issue.

Dealer Trade Plates, Have a word with the salesman.......Might cost you a Pint.;)

You could get a recovery company to take it...will probably cost you about £50...

Rob.

Yeah, get a set of trade plates off the dealer

That must torture.

What are the rules on towing cars? You don't have to insure a caravan or trailer if you're towing it so could you get someone to tow you to the garage???

If the dealership is worth it's salt then the trade plates shouldn't be an issue.

Hmmm trade plates eh? I'll ask about them when I go in today to sign some paperwork.

I've a feeling they wont do it though!

Make it part of thr Deal........You pick the car up, I'll sign. They won't want to lose a deal...Depends on how much they value you custom now and in the future

they will have contacts with local recovery companies, you will probably have change out of £50

I wouldn't,

I think our man has already signed an order and is collecting his car.

Trade plates do not = insurance.

Mot booking does not = insurance.

Best bet is get someone with a traders policy to take it. Can you get the sales exec to deliver your car and he drives the p/x back on trade plates? (Not possible if finance docs need signing tho')

Our man has indeed - and you've got the situation bang on.

I'm going to sign the documentation in an hour and pick the car up at 4pm tomorrow.

Apparently, Skoda do a 7 day cover note to allow me to drive the car away. I wonder if they'll start it early

To be honest, I'm not remotely bothered about the MOT/Tax issue, but I dont really want to drive the P/X vehicle without being covered.

Umm 10 miles right - push it! :orb_lol:

I personally wouldn't drive it there, sods law says something would happen. The only options seem to be trailer it/tow it. If it is towed it would be covered under the tow cars insurance right?

We have a winner! 13 quid! And we're sorted....

I'm well pleased with that - I wonder what odds on me getting pinched for my tax?!?

take it in 11pm the previous night (all the police will be busy nicking the drunks) and get a mate to bring you home + take you there next day

I thought about that too!

To be honest, I'd be seriously unlucky getting pinched for not having tax. Private car park at work so it's off the road all day. Only got the journey to worry about - might do a "Del Boy" - "tax in the post"

Anyway, signed my life away - and my new toy was sat all shiny waiting for me to play with him!

sorry to be a killjoy, if it's on a public road it has to be insured on its own, even if it is being towed (or pushed), unless the tow vehicle can lift two wheels off the road, then it becomes a trailer covered by the tow car's insurance.

a point on Tax...insurance companies can get sh**** over claims made even if the vehicle is being driven to a pre arranged MOT because in the small print it usually says something about keeping the car roadworthy and using it legally, which of course it isn't if it's not taxed......minefield eh???

for my two hapence worth, i'd get the dealer to collect it on trade plates.

enjoy your VRS

Can't a relative move with fully comp move it under their 3rd party insurance.

Got the insurance sorted now for 13 quid!

As for relative fully comp - apparently not. The vehicle must be insured for the relative to drive it.

Fully comp for the day now, just the tax issue to dodge!

i'm sure no one will tell the boys in blue about your lack of tax...now....where do you live, what roads will you be using, what's the vehicle reg, what time of day will it be on the road.....................................................................:)
