New Occy - Best Discount

Featured Replies

I ordered mine on Tuesday night. DTD called me on Wednesday afternoon (late because Skoda systems were down). I await a call from the dealer.

I have just had a call from a friendly sales person from Marlborough Skoda (West London). My Octy 2.0 FSI L&K Hatch should be with me in August, so due to holiday commitments, I'll probably wait for the 57 plate. Maybe I'll call it Heinz!:D

You'll need to register after 1st September to get a "57" plate

... oops just re-read your reply, you are waiting til sept :o

motorpoint has an Octavia Mk2 vRS for £14.5k blue with delivery miles...

sorry everyone...

I THINK Skoda are starting to get the message, that paying £20 K for an Octy is just NOT on!

I Mean Hyundi are going to offer their new coupe next year. RWD with either a 2 litre 230 ish Bhp Turbo engine or a +300 BHP 3.8 V6! The Turbo is likely to be just under £20K (7 year warrenty).

I got 9% off list which was cost price to the dealer

if like me you're more respondant to price and not too fussy about colour and options I found shopping around the dealers got me a pre-reg tdi sport (with 12 miles on the clock) saving me 25% off the list price....

Can I ask why? I paid just under for my fully specc'd vRS including sat nav. A similarly specc'd a4 would be significantly more, hell, a similarly specc'd golf gti would be more.

Oh, let me see:-

Ford Focus ST

Corsa VXR

Pug 207 GTI

F1 230 (Rennie thing with an LSD)

All at that sort of cash or a lot less!

Mike most of those aren't even a comparison.

A Corsa VXR or a 207 GTi!!!

The F1 Renault is a reasonable choice as it's limited edition but only for that reason.

The Focus, nice engine reasonable performance and loads of people selling them when they realise it'll only do sub 20mpg.

I was having this new car quandry before i ordered my octy vrs, and evey route i took i always ended up back at the skoda. I cant really explain it properly but it just came out as the best all round package for performance, price and most of all practicality. All the others listed above are small in comparison to the octy. I feel if you were going of size you should be comparing it to the passat, A4 etc. And quite frankly there is no comparison, why pay way over £20000 when you can get pretty much the same thing for less than £20000.

I got a price from drive the deal and walked into Claybank Skoda and basicaly said match the price and you have a deal, they did pretty much, they got to within £100 so for that i though i would stick with them as i new them and new they would look after me in the future. It took me a while to get them down, but i think if you pester enough they will give in eventually, if thy dont, walk away.

None of those compare in my book. They are all small/mid size hatch backs. I got the Octy as a fast but practical family car, with reasonable fuel economy/running costs etc. Had a Leon Cupra R, then had a baby. Looked at Alfa 159's, Audi A4's, MAzda 6's etc etc, and as the post above said, kept coming back to the vRS. It so happens that I paid under £20k, but for an eqivalent specc'd audi etc you are looking mid 20's. Get over the badge, and you get a bargain in anyone's book. And if you are looking at badge's, see no more prestige in any of the above.

I did the drive the deal trick with a dealer and he was willing to get seriously close to the DTD price that I grabbed and printed.

It's worth a shot and thats exactly what I am going to do with SWMBO's Octy vRS TDI when we order it (yes she has finally made her mind up!)

Fast Car is a Fast car Stu

Simple as that, only reson i went Octy was price, and Skoda ARE going to have to suss that they can't jack up the prices simple as that.

Mike

But it's not as simple as all out fast car is it. That being the case why not buy a Caterham or something like that.

When most people buy a car it's a compromise between a great many factors and buying one which suits your needs - not just all out speed.

Mike I really don't understand why you come here most days and complain about not having DSG or how high the price is when clearly you have no intention of buying one.

Mike how can you compare a pug 207 and corsa with a octy...more like 407 and Vectra for size which are well over the standard price for a VRS.

Maybe if you comparing them against the Fabia maybe!

When I was debating my first Octavia 2 I was putting it up against the following cars:

Pug 407

Renault Laguna

Ford Mondeo

VW Passat

Vauxhall Vectra

Honda Accord

Mazda 6 + a few others I can't remember now.

They are all in the same ballpark in terms of vehicle size and load capacity but the overall decider was down to a criteria of looks, performance, equipment (the octy scores best here) and price. The Octavia was the best VFM and therefore I could add some goodies to the standard Elegance.

I am waiting on a new L&K with sunset glass with a book price of over 21 grand. There are a bewildering array of new and slightly used cars in that price bracket but the Octavia came out tops with the criteria mentioned above.

Irrespective of the Skoda costing 21k it is still a very well equipped car for the price and there isn't much else out there that can do the same for the money.

Balls to the badge, that old excuse went out the window quite a while ago now and Skoda know that.

If anyone wants a cheap car because of it's badge go buy a Perodua :D

Well said.

Without insulting Skoda's history, or design input into the modern cars, les face it - they are VW parts bin specials - and I mean that in the most complimentary way.

I was looking at VW Golf and Passat and Audi A4 - except for some cost cutting in either standard spec (Curtain Airbags?) and some plastics are slightly cheaper looking or interior door handles in plastic rather than metal - 99% of the car is fundamentally a tick box of features, and more importantly, the exact same mechanicals as the more expensive VAG products.

My previous car was a 56 plate Mercedes-Benz C220 CDI Estate SPORT. To be honest the quality and reliability were either worse or no different to the numerous VW products I have had before and the servicing was pretty eye watering!

My next car had to be 5 doors, diesel, quick and have a list of nice gadgets (xenons, cruise, heated seats etc) - Skoda represented the value for money root to effectively get German build quailty - and I hear their dealers are nice.

I think the vRS is quite a unique product and I actually prefer the Skoda dashboard :)

Visited my local dealer today to enquire about a new vRS TDI for SWMBO.............

List price is £18,550 but with extras will top out at £20,295.

The dealer says I will not be eligible for the Jumbo/18" alloys/free servicing offer as the car won't arrive before June 30th, my response is there will be no sale in that case.

There was also little in the way of negotiation on price either. I want to see at least a grand off that price. The dealer says he doesnt have to discount the car.

There had better be some negotiation or there won't be a purchase.

Given the car and spec, what would you lot be looking for in a discount?

The options are:

Rear parking sensors

Xenons

Heated seats

Dimming mirror/rain sensor/useless light sensor

Curtain airbags

Active head rests

Maxidot

Metallic paint (dont intend to pay for this)

Jumbo box/rear leccy windows/2Zone/19" wheels (again, not paying for this so disregard)

What was said to me was that the car had to be ordered before the 30/06 and had to be delivered by 31/07.

I would think that if they are taking an order for a car at a price with deposit then they would have to honor that even if there were delays at the factory pushing it beyond 31/07.

I think it has to be registered before 31/07 to be eligible.

Personally i would check how much that would cost on DTD then get them to get close to that.

I ran the car/spec through DTD and it came out at about £18,600. I mentioned DTD and the sales bod started going on about grey imports and failure to honour any warranty

I'll be speaking to the sales manager in future :D

I know there aren't many TFSi cars in the UK as I enquired recently, not sure about TDi's, it all kinda depends on the spec you want but if you could get one from the port then you might scrape it with the 5.5%/Free servicing/Goodies.

They did a check and there aren't any that come close to the spec SWMBO wants, she is going to keep it for some time so the spec/colour has to be bang on

Race blue of course :D

The dealer will be in touch tomorrow hopefully with some answers.

Salesmen hate DTD prices. As I have posted elsewhere, my three local Skoda dealers could not (or would not) get within £1200 of the DTD price. One of the salesmen practically escorted me off the premises :)

I think the main dealers need to get to grips with the idea that people are increasingly going to be shopping through the internet to get the best deals, even for high value items, and they may well have to rethink the way in which they do business. Very difficult for them though, because what I anticipate happening, which will not be in any of our interests, is that dealers who are not shifting high volumes of cars and attracting the larger manufacturer discounts and bonuses, are not going to be able to stay in business and in the longer term, we may all find ourselves having to to drive 50 miles to our nearest "out of town" supersite main dealer, just to get the car serviced.

It's food for thought, that the consumers ongoing quest for getting the lowest price possible, might ultimately lead to a degredation in the services that we need after the ink has dried on the sales receipt.
