Toyo Proxes T1-R

Featured Replies

Just had a set of these in 235 40 R18 form fitted to the front wheels of my car, and after a spirited run I'd just thought I'd have to share my findings with you.

These tyres are absolutely outstanding. The amount of grip in the dry is somewhat abnormal. The handling has been totally transformed compared to my Continental Sport Contact 2's which were shredded in just 7k miles. Noise is dramatically reduced too.

Traction is stunning, a full launch being dealt with no wheelspin (although that might be down to the driver :rofl:)

Bit of a pointless thread tbh, but if you are near to changing your rubber, I'd definately consider these if they are in your price range. I paid

Have them all round on the mongrel now. Seriously awesome tyre!

Running a set on the Fabia at the moment. Well impressed with dry grip and noise levels, waiting for it to rain before posting a review.

I need a set all round VERY soon and am torn between the untried but cheap Falken 452's or the tried and tested Toyo's but have got about a month to make my mind up!.

I am interested in the increased 235 profile as I know that Dave did this with his too, can you post up a close piccy's sometime as I want to see how they 'fit' to the rim. Also, what effect does it have on the speedo, speed it up or slow it down (it's late and my brain cant seem to fathom it out :o ).

235 tyre will marginally slow it down over say a 225 tyre. Difference between 225 and 235 tyre is the speedo will under-read by only 1.26% (i.e at actual 70mph before, you'll actually be at 70.88 :))

I have Toyos on the 4x4, IMO an outstanding tyre for the cost.

The only problem I have is I cant seem to get over 10000 miles out of them, am I doing something wrong :) :)

Just beware when running wider tyres, you will suffer from extra sidewall flex, and could destroy the sidewalls (like my kumhos when i was running 215's on the furby)

I ran T1-R's for the last 2 1/2 years and have just changed to the Falken 452's. I feel they are not quite as grippy at the front but as I dont drive on the limits the difference (for me) is negligable.

OOps fogot to add this is on a MK1, forgot which forum I was in :o )

I'll be interested in reading that.

I have always been a fan of theses tyres, lifespan has always been a problem, the price you pay for all that grip i suppose!

Toyo have a new Proxes 4 on the way (some sizes available now) to supersede the T1-R. Details here;- Toyo Tire

Not available in the 235/40 18 you are looking for, but the 'proper' 225/40 18 is due 'later in 2007'; may be out by now.

Reckon we have less rain in Essex than in Mil's home town over the last 3 weeks.

Are you saying they don't work well in the wet Andy?

Are you sure you have "R"'s and not "s"'s Chris?

Told you they were good Harry :)

I had T1-R's in 205/45/16 format on my Fabia. Yep, grippy, especially if you get them really hot with really hard cornering repeatedly. They literally get sticky!

Wet performance I found them to be average really, their biggest 'fault' is that they do wear quickly - got 7000 miles out of my last set. But, as my friend who competes in rallying says, "if they're not wearing out quickly, they're not gripping enough". :D

Yes they are R's Dave just i am to heavy footed when i drive in wet or dry .But i must say they are the best tyre ever in the dry .But the wear is the down side .:D

Heavy footed? You havent seen heavy footed lol. Seriously, In the wet, unless your tyre pressures are way off or something, they are tremendous. I remember you complaining a while ago about them, but the roads were "wintery" back then, and covered in salt and other ****e. They won't last no, because they grip. If you want longevity, try some Michelin Pilots. Then you will know what poor wet grip is :)

6k on the fronts 10k on the rears :( Good and grippy but wear too fast for me!!

2.0 tdi

Have Hankook Ventus on standard Fabia vRS - according to mytyres reviews and Tyre summer : tyre selling summer any brand they are rated pretty highly for virtually everything (except the usual - Snow).

Ill endorse the t1rs.

Had a set on my Fabia for 17k and they were brilliant in all conditions. They also have done two track days and again they were brilliant, none of that liquid rubber feeling after 5 laps

BTW the set I still have on a spare set of wheels after all that still have enough tread to do another track day.

Top stuff :D

I had Michelin Energies on my Renault. Swapping them round at service got me 36k out of a set - but I might as well have been on slicks in the wet

Got 15k out of my T1-Rs on the front, and the rears have worn so little that the shoulders still haven't even worn down as far as the little groove just beside the V-shaped tread sections (if you have some, you'll know what I mean!) In fact, the rears are still so fresh that the guy at tyre place said I shouldn't even bother switching them onto the front and putting the new ones on the back, as he reckoned the rears were so little-worn that their grip wouldn't be any worse than if they were new...

The Proxeses are MUCH better than the Primacies mine came with, that's for sure!!!
