I had T1-R's on my last car 300bhp Focus ST and it reduced the wheel spin down to a squeal,

Hi All - An update for you on here regarding my prvious post: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/octavia-ii/new-vrs-tyres-well-happy-dealer/97859/

Now done about 150 miles up to today. Been on a trip today with seriously heavy showers on the motorway - WOW, what an amazing difference in the wet, these tyres make!

Rather than avoiding some large pools of settled water (average 60mph) drove through as before with original Dunlop's and there was no twitch at the wheel whatsoever. Almost as if the water wasn't there at all - very impressed.

Again, i have noticed no difference in any road noise, albeit haven't really had a chance to hear them at any other higher speed for any length of time to notice.

Considering these tyres are a new development and at only

The Toyos take a few hundred miles before they really deliver the goods. You have that to look forward to.

Good to see the Proxes 4 carrying on the fine Toyo tradition John, thanks for the review. Bodes well for when I next need some tyres

Had to have 2 new tyres on front of mine after 15k so after reading reviews here and ant Blackcircles decided to get the Toyo T1-R

Initial impression is that the handling and grip are far better than when the car was first delivered.

Really feel the grip.

Last night in the slightly inclement weather we had in Manchester car was sure footed and did not move an inch,

Would definitely recommend

Not only are they sure footed in the wet, but when you do go past their limits, you get plenty of feedback and very controllable drift.

I'll be demanding Toyo's when my tyres require changing. I use the T1-R's on my Cavalier for trackdays, they do the job excellently :D

But now that i'm trying to wear my Michelins out, they don't want to! Grr

Think the Michelins have pieces of granite in the tread; slows down the wearing process

My local tyre man - Tony Tyres, well respected in the motorsport world, and by Colin D off of here amongst others says the new ones are "****". T1-R's are still the daddy he reckons.

You might find some suit some cars better than others

I can remember when I was running the STi & the Bridgestone SO2 was replaced with the SO3 they were **** on the Subaru yet aparently the new ones were far better on Porsches that the old

It might be dependant on what car he tried them on

We thought the SO3's were better than the SO2's on the Scooby

OKAY Shifty - think you may have something here.......... Gone on my run to Sheffield today (just the one way til Monday) Previously only about 80 miles on the Proxes 4 on short trips but with the full availability on the 200+ miles today to use the car well, i have noticed a severe worry!

LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE WHOLE CAR!!

Around three times and with one major rear end control loss at around 75-80, i was in a right state. Never experienced this before on the factory Dunlop's - always sure-footed.

Weather conditions were adverse with high winds and rain was down to occassional with only needing to use the intermittent wipe.

Unsure as to what is going wrong at the moment?

The wheel alignment, geometry and tracking were all done to perfection last week, but it's as if the car wants to drift with any kind of side wind and on at least 2 occassions it was scary to control-so slowed right down even to the point where i wanted to stop on the hard shoulder and check to see if a wheel had any nuts on it at all to be honest.........

Anyone any ideas with this scenario, or should i put it down to a new tyre and that it isn't up to spec? If so, do i go and ask for a refund/exchange for the T1-R's ??

Hope someone can help - cheers John. (with soiled panties - lol)

The lack of use so far could explain some of the handling issues, tyres need to bed in, 500 miles or so ideally, before the slippery resin that stops them sticking to the mould has all come out of the rubber.

How many miles have you got on these tyres?

Do remember any new tyre takes at least 250 miles and preferably 500 miles to 'scrub in' and provide good grip.

I put a new set of Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas on my car over Christmas and only now 750 miles on are they feeling 'good'.

Not driven on 4s but have driven on all sorts of other Toyos and they were all good. The T1-R s are famous for being greasy as **** for more miles than most before the mould release comes off.

Cannot see much appeal to the T1-R as a trackday tyre unless it is raining. I find their lateral grip to be good, but nothing special and traction to be pretty average. For trackdays, you want to head toward R888 or A048 or ACB10 for real grip. I found Hankook RS-2 to be a good halfway house. Much more grip than a road tyre but still road usable even in the wet (well until they wear about half way).

Chris

Sounds a little bit worrying. Then again, not the best time of year to be scrubbing in new tyres :)

Steve

Thanks for replies everyone.........

Initial thoughts are that i will let TOYO know of the worry that i have experienced and will allow a few hundred miles to bed-in further.

Just a tad worried about the fact that i've never experienced such a dramatic change of driving characteristics just through a change of tyre and that's with any vehicle that i've driven in 25 years!

I drive the Vrs with a passion, as do most of us on here and i am quite happy that i've a very good feel for the car and it's capabilities over the 14 months that i've had her.

Will update after the drive home after the weekend.

Thankyou everyone. John.
