Jacking points ??

Featured Replies

This may be really obvious, but where is the best place to jack the front up correctly using a trolley jack ? The underside is covered in plastic trim, does some need to removed first ?

I know it's an old thread but I can't see the answer anywhere. Going to jack mine and hammerite the brake discs to remove the rust patches. Trouble is I'm goign to jack and axle stand mine to do it, but can't see the jacking points. I'll use a trolley jack and axle stand set.

Where are the jacking points? Any help much appreciated.

Aim for something like the rear wishbone mounting.

Without been thick, what would that look like and what about the points for the front?

The dealer told me to use a trolley jack on the sills where they are marked with a dished triangle using a piece of wood to avoid damage to the paint work. I use a lump of rubber on my trolley jack, but when you have your tyres change they will probably put the metal jack cup straight onto the painted sill surface!!

Dunno about other models but on the RS you have to open the doors to see this ;)

As suggested above, I use my trolley with a piece of old rubber car mat over the head and use the standard jacking points, front and rear, with no problems or damage.

I use trolley jack with a piece of wood then in normal jacking point.

So there are no jacking points under the car at all then??!

When you open the door, there is a small triangular arrow head indentation in the sill, pointing at the jacking point underneath,

Yeah, but that's pointing at the point on the sill where you're supposed to use the official jack which is supplied in the cars boot. If you look under the car itself at those points, there isn't any recognisable place to put a trolley or bottle jack. All the cars i've had in the past used to have a visible spot or 'bubble' of sorts where the kwik-fit monkeys could put the double lifters on which you could also use as a jacking point when you use your own trolley jacks. That's what i'm looking for as there's nothing obvious and i'm not gonna guess in case I put it through the floorpan.

I don't want to risk putting the flat head of a trolley jack on the sill jacking point in case it folds it: the supplied Skoda jack has a groove designed specifically to hold it all the way round the sill, but it's nowhere near as convenient, quick or strong as a trolley or bottle jack.

look underneath the car and jack up on the suspension mounts with the trolley jack.

May sound like a daft question, but can you (or anyone?) stick a photo of where to jack exactly, front and back? Just really twitchy of going for the wrong place... already had the car fall off a pair of axle stands cos the only place I could get them on wasn't solid enough!

I had no trouble with a trolley jack under the "official" triangles because the cup of the trolley jack also has kind of cut outs in its rim, and the car seam sat in those.

Aim for that area on the front.

If you knee down and look beneath the rear bumper you can see 1x large suspension arm on each side. Use that to jack up the rear from ~1/3 from the side, standing behind the car.

On the front, knee down next to the passenger door, look behind the near front wheel and you should also see one of the large suspension arms which you can use to jack up.

Were indicated for normal jack, 1/"2 peice of wood inserted in the 'U' section between the sill and plastic cover.

In my experience, some of the best car jacking points are Salford, Prestwich and South Manchester!:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

LMAO :rofl::rofl::rofl: didn't see that one coming.

You could always pick the car up via the wheel arches
