Fabia vRS is rubbish round a Stock Car Oval

Featured Replies

Pants! There was me hoping for a good lap time around the Matchams (near Bournemouth) stock car track last night, with the aid of NOS etc, and it was rubbish. It was a basic oval with small straights, and I just couldn't get any power down out the corners due to HUGE turbo lag, and poor gearing. 2nd was too short, and 3rd gear meant trying to find big power at under 2500rpm, and by the time the boost built up and the NOS cut in, I had only got to about 55mph and was braking for the next corner. Also, there wasn't much grip and the classic vRS nose heavy handling came into play.

I hope for more luck in a straight line down the 1/4 mile. :D

There might be a vid to follow. ;) AND here is the vid to follow. Taken the vid footage and done some editing. They say I wasn't trying, but I was doing my best given the circumstances. :D

ah matchams... you should of said you were going.. i'd have come too

Was it not possible to keep in a single lower gear and use that, keeping the turbo on song longer.

2nd was just too short, Manny. :( The petrols have it easy being geared to rev to 65mph odd in 2nd gear, but I was there with a choice between bouncing 2nd off the limiter, and just using 3rd.

The handling really let it down too, plus I was not pushing it due to some very nasty barriers. :D

Can someone put a D in my thread title too please? :)

horses for courses mate - you should keep your racing to where it's safe and the fabia shines - the motorway!!!!! Plus being modded to a higher level but not being re-mapped to suit probably drops the overall performace pretty badly I would think ...

(just kidding)

Bas

Should have given it a shot of NOS down the nice yumpy round outside Matchams.

I might have been able to come and watch the 'comedy car' in action too ;) .

What are you expecting on the 1/4 mile run both in time and terminal speed?.

Those excuses are worthy of a true racing driver ;)

A "vRS cross" rather than a vRS isn't it? A true thoroughbred vRS would whip around there, well.... like a whippet!

:D

If anyone says anything about using a 2.0 fabia I think I'm gonna be upset.....

based on recent performances of another fabia ;) with some practise I would like to break into the 13s (just) maybe a terminal speed of just shy of 100mph? When remapped I do hope to have a 0-100 in the region of 14 seconds, with the nos, the 60-100 bit takes no time at all really.

Video added in original post. :D

Hate to say it but you can't just get a shopping trolley, give it 200 BHP and rock solid springs and expect it to be a racing car. RWD and a big petrol engine required for that track!

something like a stock car you mean?

Balls of steel and no worries about hitting the rock hard sides also helps. :D

With what's planned for my car I just didn't have the heart to push it any harder. The time the boost took to come on in 3rd gear just emphasised it. Turbo lag city.

That's going too far. That has well too much for that track

Just use the video as an audio soundtrack. I do like the turbo whistle you can hear, and the exhaust note as I go by. :)

You drove like a pussy, but to be honest those barriers looked well nasty.

You have big balls sir :P

its only a weeny little circuit!!!

mavis would love it though and you'd have no chance Vs her might 148bhp :D

By the size of your turbo I'm suprised how little lag you do have, still annoying anyhow.

It's a mofo ain't it?! :D

By the way, the solution to the "rock hard springs" will be with you Wednesday. ;) And I have the day off work on Friday. ;) ;)

Big isn't always better.

My mate has just spent

nice, its a tight fit though my mate had one. it eventually ripped the thing apart too.

hey, totally unrelated to your oval experiance, but what exhaust system is on that car, sounds the buisness! need one for mine.
