Felicia power loss

Featured Replies

Felicia 1.6slxi suddenly lost most of it's power whilst climbing a hill. I was reduced to first gear until I reached level ground. Now the engine jerks whilst accelerating or decelerating and is very sluggish and still lacking power. Any suggestions please? Peter.

1) map sensor gone wrong (or disconnected)

2) throttle cable loose or out of adjustment

Engine coolant temperature sensor?

Had a 1.6 in which lacked power, turned out to be very low oil level - the hydraulic tappets were not getting enough to operate effectively.

surely it would rattle it's ****hole off if the hydraulic lifters didn't have enough oil??

I'd head for the MAP sensor being disconnected if it went as suddenly as described.

And yes, low oil pressure or flow volume in the head will make a hydraulic tappet engine sound tappety. With a quiet engine like mine, you can actually hear it being slightly tappety until it warms up!

Eventually lost power altogether. Engine started then immediately stopped. I was baffled. Err... actually it turned out to be the middle exhaust box that had "de-baffled" i.e. collapsed and the rubbish had blocked the system. Clue was that the plugs kept sooting up - nowhere for exhaust to go! Thanks for your replies and thoughts about the problem.

Many thanks for that update. How did you eventually diagnose the problem?

When engine was running a hissing noise could be heard from the first coupling on the exhaust system - due to the high pressure! That led to checking the tailpipe emissions and very little was coming out.

Cheers for the update. That is a very rare problem (and I used to be mates with the manager of an exhaust centre).
