Lummox's VW Golf

Featured Replies

Next weekend a new car will join the stable. Some of you may recognise it as it has been about on Briskoda for a while. It has come about at quite a good time as for a while I have been hankering for some older VW metal.

So here it is, a 1987 (ish) MK2 Golf GTi. Looks fairly standard from the outside, few modifications to later spec exterior but thats about it. Oh and an Audi TT 1.8T engine (210/225 origin).

A few jobs to do on it when I pick it up but expect to see it about sometime over the summer. Polo might be up for sale soonish if any one is interested.

Glad you actually bought it fella! Not jealous at all :(

Yep, I know the car saw it at marlin... :)

I have vids and pics of it.

hoping to see it fly in the future :)

Very nice car mate

Wait a minute... the photos you have are my photos :) (first 2 anyways) I'll send high res versions along with a video. Ross can I remember something unusual about the car, like it couldn't record a torque figure or/and the rev counter didn't work

Chris

mmmmmmm

that is damn nice

Well done lummox. A fine addition to your fleet ;)

I already have one minus the 1.8T, but thats on the cards eventually.

Top car and top engine in that car really miss my mk2 see you at GTI inters then?

There are a few things that don't work. I don't think its a matter of things that are broken just things that haven't been sorted when the conversion was done, these are little things I can work on.

I won't be at Inters sadly, already have prior arangements for that weekend.

Nice motor, looks seriously clean

I'm sure you will :)

That looks great, I'm sure you'll have some fun with that.

What have you got planned anyway? Are you sticking with the emerald ECU or are you gonna fit 1.8T clocks and ECU for the safety element and easier mapping? What's the issue with the clutch/gear selection?

The Mk2 is such a great looking car that doesn't seem to date at all.

I cant see an issue with the Emerald ECU, it would seem a lot easier to map as the software is all very user friendly. Also has the added bonus of not running a MAF or N75 or N249.

260-270 bhp should be possible from this software as far as I am told and that is plenty.

Issue with the clutch is an 020 cable fitted after the original had broken. Its too long and wont adjust enough, new one on order.

I meant easier as in just stick a generic map on there. For custom mapping then the emerald is more than upto the job, just gotta watch AFR/EGT as you won't have all the safety factors of the standard ECU. With a decat and the emerald ECU I've heard 280bhp is achievable, however aiming for 260-270bhp will likely result in a more reliable car.

I bet it sounds good with the decat exhaust and open filter. Is it running a BOV as well as you won't have the normal problems of running one on a 1.8T?

yes it is eddy and yes it does sound good, very mean :D

That looks stunning

Have you got any more pics of her yet?

My nephew has a white 1.8 Gti 8v 5door for sale that i wanted as a project car but dont have the room. :(

The MK2 is an absolutely stunning looking car IMHO.
