Greenlight Insurance - No vRS!

Featured Replies

Just heard back from Greenlight and...

Additional Information:

We no longer quote Skoda Fabia/Octavia VRS due to our bad claims experience on this model vehicle (Numerous single vehicle and loss of control accidents)

I know a number of companies no longer insure the fabia, didnt think the octy claims were an issue though.

I've just had the same thing back from them, and have asked them to elaborate

Mr May

We have made a considerable losses (claim costs outweighing the premium

income) on both the Skoda Octavia VRS and Skoda Fabia VRS models.

We have made these consistent losses for 3 years running and have now stopped quoting for these vehicles as our underwriters are not prepared to continue to write business at a loss.

Sorry we are unable to help.

Best Regards

Neil

Greenlight Insurance

...apparently...

Yep, this has been the case for the Fabia vRS for some time.

Blame Jason, Xav, Harry et.al.

I wonder if this will affect the insurance group that the vRS's have been assigned, or whether the car is stuck with that from launch? Not that it'll really make a big difference as I imagine all the underwriters have their own weightings anyway!

Chris

Greenlight say that they have run a loss - why not simply increase the premium to reflect the new risk rather than stop underwriting the model completely?

Hmm so come renewal time, they won't insure me any more?

That could be interesting, considering there are only a few panel of insurers who'll insure modified fabia vrses... :rubchin:

Well they make enough money of me

Again so far Sky Insurance are by far the cheapest for me, even places like Flux have said they won't even bother trying too beat the quote I got for my renewal with Sky :o

I've always found Flux and HIC to be abysmally expensive

Horses for courses with this insurance lark though isn't it? A company who's pricey for someone can be the bargain quote for someone else!

I'm sure they just pluck a figure out of the air half the time!

Steve

Can I just hijack this thread for a second:-)

I've just got my insurance for the Ltd Edition vRS and picking it up next week. Do I need to declare the car as "different" to the standard vrs or what?

Egg insure wouldn't insure me as I didn't have 2 years no claims. So i've effectively lost 10months :( Opted for Admiral.

Accountant v Supermarket affected the quote by about 40 quid! Shame I don't start until september:(

I've heard this before about Greenlight. Is it because the car's power out muscles the average handling, so people are having big accidents? anyhow i guess that's a total different can of worms.

I'm priveledged by the way :thumbup:

idtiotic dirivers ruining it for the rest of us? I have to say I didn't have any trouble getting insurance for my Fabia and the premium was pretty reasonable.

You won't need to declare anything other than the exact model, eg you tell them it is a Skoda Fabia vRS Special Edition and their database should pick that up as being different in terms of leather, tinted windows etc.

If when you receive your cover note it says vRS and not the SE then you want to clarify with them that THEY know you drive a SE and not the 'normal' vRS, otherwise in the event of an accident they MAY think the differences for the SE are down to you modding a 'normal' vRS.

I think this may be contributing, but a lot of the problem will be young'uns with little driving experience being able to afford them because of their relatively low insurance grouping and getting into a mess with not being able to handle them (especially if they chip them!)....

My thoughts exactly.

when I got mine, they were brand new, and no Insurance company I contacted had the SE on file.

only Skoda Insurance said that they would treat it the same as a normal vRS, but the quote was twice as much as some other people were saying anyway.

eventually I went with Admiral, and got them to add the extras, so that in the event of an accident, everything would be covered. I spent a while debating with the Admiral guy that these were not "optional extras" that I was fitting, but that they were standard issue to this variant. He instead said that they didn't have anything other than the standard car, so by going for the SE, I was the one choosing the extras, so they should be declared. This added about 30 quid to my premium. I asked him to pass on a request that the SE should be added to their register of cars, dunno if he did anything about it.

I reeled off the "Extras" to him (except the red calipers, am not bothered about them). They were listed on my policy as

- Interior Changes

- Tinted Rear windows

:doh::rolleyes:

am hoping that companies have the SE on file when renewal time comes round, as I don't really fancy going thru that all again.

Bah, looks like i'm going to have to get back on the phone to them. My premium was high enough...looks like it's going to be a bit higher!

Well I did the deed today with Sky insurance as they matched a beat a quote from another company even though it was quite low.

So that's

Do you know who underwrites Sky insurance - sounds like they're worth looking at come renewal time!

Sure it's Ensign.

Nothing but 100% from these guys, I phoned up a few times last year for changes for mods, details etc and you get the personal touch every time, not once but every single time.

For me personally coming from a customer service background that counts for a lot, and the fact they seem to be much cheaper than everyone else bar the one company I was able to get a cheaper quote with was just a bonus ( they price matched no trouble ).

I also opted for the

Just doing a :bump: here as my insurance renewal has come in from greenlight for my modded vrs. And yes, they have quoted me again with Highway Insurance, despite my previous total loss claim 2 years ago... Still, it's just under
