Its a PD130 now... ;)

I know the block is from a PD130 (or was once), but the car's humble beginnings are PD100 - ridiculous

Don't forget the very real effect of fitting a SMF on things - that and the Peloquin should have you yet another step upwards (or is that downwards on the slippery slope???)

Need to put on a vinyl magnet-backed side banner that reads "Diesel Powered" so that the general public attending these things knows just what a great achievement the Mongrel is....

I really wished i would of taken mine now :( i could of won the Skoda class, or had a good attempt at it anyway :)

Big up the 1st gear launches :D so much more controllable

I took the corrado down but it had a bit of a problem with heat soak, but even with shutting off as soon as i got into 3rd (starting to run lean cus of the heat) it managed a 13.7 :D not bad so bring on the 12s at pod

What was it like in the mud?

Next doors BF has a golf rallye and reckons he got a bit stuck at the camp site, the car was absolutely covered in shiiite, sounds like a good weekend had by alll though.

Ok so from looking at the fuel guage you have done 221.2 miles with 1/4 of a tank of fuel (lets assume it goes down linear).

So given you drive the rest of the tank like that then you could get 890miles from the tank & as the fuel goes down it getting lighter so will use even less fuel.

This is clearly a message to those of you who state you never really get over 45mpg your driving your TDI incorrectly.

For the poster what a result - It would be good if you brimmed it now and calculated your true MPG so we can have a measure of the accuracy of the trip computer.

1. I'm pretty sure it doesnt go down linear

2. What ******** "this is clearly a message to those of you who state you never really get over 45mpg your driving your TDI incorrectly". Not being funny but I don't think its possible to drive your car around town at 70mph with the cruise control on. So by driving at 30mph in a residential area I am driving incorrectly??????

I think that it depends on the spacing of the lampposts

 If calculated I'm confident its nowhere near 71mpg... High 50s at best (imho of course).

And Jason, not meaning to put a dampener on things, but why the airbag and check engine lights?? Thought all these "issues" had been sorted now? :P

I think he tok the pics without the engine started, but with the key in the go postion.

Nope - airbags not working due to my own decisions taken - Might have a way to get rid of the light. CEL is due to EGR removal and it comes and goes - Never had any other codes cause the CEL. :)

Why ? Would you rather smash your face into your steering wheel if/when you have an accident ?

My fuel economy is currently averaging 36 mpg - and I am driving it properly ;) - driving at pace isn't the best plan for fuel economy with the lovely brick shape of the Fabia, and that includes a 50mph stretch near Reading...

And yes - I can get high 40s if I drive slowly or go on a long journey that incorporates say the M25, for example ;)

The campsite was awesome, loads of people getting stuck and it was a proper laugh. Some people thought the mud was a downer but they're probably just old and boring, and lost without an en-suite bathroom!

It was easy enough to get in and out, just stick the car in 2nd, don't use the accelerator and the engine idle will get you out - easy. Some people seemed to think that by flooring it they'd be out in no time... doofuses! Anyway, that's the end of my off-topic ramblings!

He did it as the wiring in his car is a transplant and he didnt want to risk it, personally I think a valid decision as there is very little additional risk not having a drivers airbag.

This was my initial feeling yes, but now I have plugged in the ecu for the airbags, but I left the actual things disconnected too. I don't fancy risking having the airbag go off in my face randomly so leaving it unplugged. I'm just on the hunt for the resistance of the airbags so I can make some units to plug the airbag wiring up with, and get rid of the light.

I would like to see you say that again after having a head on smash at 70ish mph, each to there own though i guess.:o

Im not so sure - 71.4 is incredible perhaps it was achieved by driving the TDI on the torque wave not changing up at 4000rpm

If you want to save money crack on.

If you dont care who cares....buy a fast car.

Why bother. ........... a VRS is good as as sold for. Group 9 ins and 55 MPG.

You want to go really fast. buy a fast car, pay the insurunce. and shut up!!!:finger:

A VRS is good, though its not a super car that will leave everything else.

It will upset a few!:D

I love these people who don't "get" the mongrel. Never mind eh.

Good work Jason, I really think it's time for that diff though.

Wondered how long it would take for this comment to surface - It's not about mindlessly buying a fast car - it's the thinking, planning and fun into taking a good warm hatch and making it pretty hot!

The mongrel has been evolving over time, and to someone who likes to understand modding, it's provided a source of interest and pleasure to read about it.

Jason has posted some 23,788 times to date and has made a major contribution to Briskoda and to "modding to the extreme".

Every time you make any mod and you notice the difference it brings a smile to your face - that adds up to a lot of joy in installments, some big some small....

I don't think people have a problem with the Mongrel?

I just love to see what comes next in the constant quest for improvement :)

for sure, but some peole don't "get" the whole taking a non vRS fabia and then putting various vRS bits in/on it to essentailly make it a lower(?) spec vRS fabia, and then starting with the "normal" vRS type mods etc :) others, of course are far too smitten to accept people's opinions for what they are - opinions

Not everyone is in a position to buy the vRS in the firstplace..... Jason had a desire to make something unique, which he has succeded in doing. What it's origins are don't really matter.....to most people. It is now possibly the most powerful derv Fabia in existance, he has done most of the work with his own hands, and it makes him both happy and proud. If you feel the need to knock his personal happiness and achievements, then thats up to you I guess, but it's not very friendly is it now.

Also out of interest, and I dont know Jason's exact torque figure, but Id guess 400 ft lbs +, what can you buy out the showroom with that amount of torque? A few things.....but at what cost? So if you look at it that way, it's a performance bargain. Might not be the fastest thing to 60, but imagine what it goes like on the move...

Exactly.

Some people collect CD's, some people fish etc. Jason mods his car and if it wasn't for people like him pushing the envelope of what can be done then we would be living in a very boring world full of standard cars - No thanks.

The world needs more people like him

Noooo, I want to be the only one. :D

Going to see a man about a 3" er on Saturday! Might try something unique on the exhaust front as well. :)
