Allard VT2, AMC Remap, any other options?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

continuing on from my last thread:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/fabia/blown-turbo-vrs-can-anyone-help-please/83369/

I've decided to give the car to my local garage, Roscoe Engineering, tomorrow if they're willing to take the work on. After they've checked the car over to see what exactly needs doing and provided only the turbo has gone, I'm planning on asking them to order the VT2 hybrid turbo and the AMC remap from Allard. Total cost including VAT for the parts is going to be around

i don't think there is any point getting the car remapped again until you get the FMIC fitted , AFAIK it will need redoing when thats fitted , so you'll be wasting money surely

seconded - get an FMIC before you go on to remapping. The turbo boost is electronically controlled by the ECU map so just swapping the turbo will not show any change at all.

If I was doing it myself(~!!!!) to maximise my money - I would look at getting the Turbo Dynamics stage 2 directly (haggle a bit - they're nice people!) and fitting the turbo myself with some advice from Briskodians- a few people have done that (Vrstu springs to mind). No-one will take a KKK in exchange, only a Garrett (which is only sometimes randomly fitted to a Fabia).

That would leave money over for getting a FMIC and fitting it myself (not at all difficult tbh).

Final remap can then be done anywhere by any of the proper "custom" RR tuners... No sense in having a generic map with those goodies in place!!!

HTH

Cheers

Bas

If you get the VT2, Then get Impossible Performance to remap the turbo for you, They will tweak your exisiting remap for free, once you get the FMIC installed, so there is no waiting. Allards will tell you, no one can map their turbo's etc, But, That's incorrect, Jabba and Impossible can, but as I said, Impossible tweak the map for free.

Thanks for your replies everyone. So it sounds as though the Revo map can work with the VT2 but it won't work to its full potential? As long as I don't lose power or the turbo doesn't go bang then I'd be happy to stick with the VT2 and Revo for a couple of months.

I'll get the VT2 and then at a later date when the intercooler goes in I'll get a custom map done. Which intercooler and which map I don't know yet lol. Will ask you guys nearer the time :)

The Seat Ibiza Cupra 1.9 TDI's Intercooler is very effective, as is the Forge FMIC, For reasonable prices.

I still say Impossible Performance's Map :P

The temps out here are currently 46 deg C indicated. Not had any heatsoak whatsoever since fitting the Forge - it is quality.... And I caned it to 200km/h today (shhhhh...)

I havent bothered to hook up the intelligent autospray controller for the waterspray cooling - all you need is the FMIC...

Oh yeah and who told you that, i bet it wasn`t Allard's as they are very happy for Jabba to map their VT2 turbo. Many people have got a VT2 mapped by another company other then Allard's. I didn`t even know Impossible mapped hybrid diesel cars.

Allard themselves, When I was interested in getting their Hybrid.

If you say so but it seems very strange since there are several cars running their VT2 turbos mapped by Jabba,APS etc :o . Who`s diesel car has impossible mapped with a hybrid turbo on then and how many have they done ?

No-one but Allard seemed capable of controlling my Allard turbo. My running issues with my VT5 running a Jabba map (and a map they had to "make safe" as it couldn't be brought under control) are well documented. The VT2 is mappable by others I would say, but that's not "such" a specialist turbo. Jabba definitely got good power from my old VT2 which is now in another member's possession.

Anything bigger than a VT2 I would recommend Allard do the tuning. Sure, it might be generic in nature but it's designed for the turbo and my car hasn't run this well in ages. Getting good power, relatively smoke free acceleration, and still getting an lpg assisted 60mpg.

When you had the VT2 what bhp and lb/ft torque did you have? Have you upgraded the injectors when you moved on to the VT5......

Planning the next stage of tuning and was considering either the VT2 or VT4. I currently have a large bore turbo downpipe with the Milltek catback etc...... fitting a FMIC shortly ready for the new turbo/exhaust manifold etc..... not sure which way to go yet any advice you could offer would be great!!

I was running 220bhp and 360 lb/ft, confirmed at 3 other rolling roads while I had that turbo on. :) No injector mods as my lpg and oem injectors supply enough fuel for the new turbo. I recommend big bore downpipe and straight through pipe to the tail, but that's not everyone's cup of tea.

ahhh.... so if I went for the VT4 it wouldn'e be necessary to go for the up-rated injectors straight off?!?! :) oh.... I have the egr mod from Allards that will go on when I do the FMIC.... of course you would get a lot more from it if you do.

I have the big bore downpipe but by straight through do you mean without the silencer box?..... swmbo wouldn't be up for that :D

jasons straight through exhaust pipe without box was not that loud iirc

Revo remap to 250 ish only AFAIK.

I did the straight pipe too - listened to Jason's exhaust at TRAX last year. Did it bit by bit - first de-cat then big jump and de-muffler - love it...Cheap and effective

Best idea of noise is to see my latest vid from GTI inters. :) It's my car making the noise at the end. :)

Canny that like

I think my mind is made up now then..... if a VT4 is fine with standard injectors then this will be what I will go for...... just got to get the FMIC first :D plus exhaust manifold of course

Is there much difference between the Allard & Forge FMIC...... the forge one looks slightly bigger?!?!?

They both do an adequate job. Although, the plus side for Forge, is it is cheaper.

Which is a canny plus :D ...... mind the pictures I have seen of the allard one would suggest it replaces more of the plastic intercooler pipes with metal ones acros the top of the engine iirc.... I could be wrong about this of course :)

It replaces it right from turbo outlet to the manifold. ;) Well, actually, mine came needing some pipe to be mocked up to the FMIC from the turbo, which wasn't hard armed with a couple of silicone hoses, some spare alloy piping and willingness to use an angle grinder with anger...

I think the Allard one has a shorter FMIC to manifold distance, but both do a good job. The actual ICs are more or less the same too.

got to admit... i was leaning towards the Allards FMIC..... I spoke to them about it when I bought the egr blanking kit as I was a little worried whether the FMIC may cause boost to spikes....... as it can reach 1.7 bar from time to time I didn't want this to happen...... they were really helpful and put my mind at rest that it wouldn't cause/increase boost spikes and that the current boost should be fine although it is at the top end of the safe range :D

to be honest, I don't hammer the car for to long a long and tend to keep the boost under 1.6 as much as possible.... thanks for your help

just a quick question re the FMIC , where does the MAP sensor get fitted when its removed from the original SMIC ?
