Not a Skoda Owner...

... but my brother is and he hangs about here so I thought I'd pop my head in :) You don't bite I hope?

Welcome Daz

Mx5 eh?

Always nice to have a hairdresser on the site, Denis (DGW) will be along soon to ask about concessionary rates for OAP's :P :D

Welcome Daz !

Who's your brother and why hasn't he convinced you yet to change cars? ;)

Nothing hairdresser about my car :) And btw I've heared all those jokes before

Daz

You've come the right place... I bet there are more Skoda jokes than MX5 ones :P

Not sure what his uname is. Probably posting a lot about his Ice install

And why would I want to change my MX5 for a Skoda? My brothers Octy is a nice car (and quick) but it's entirely different from an MX5 (note: not saying it's worse, just different). Maybe Skoda need to release a 2str sports-car :D

You'd be surprised :) Actually if you've been to Scoobynet I doubt you would :) I kind of figured Skoda owners are in the same boat as MX5 owners - the uninitiated just don't know what they're missing

Welcome to the forum!

What sort of BHP is your MX5 producing?

  • Author

Not exactly sure since I've not had it dyno'd (recently fitted the SC). I'd guess at approx 150-160bhp in its current form. I have a BTC and a chargecooler still to fit which will boost it by a few BHP then I'm planning on a smaller pulley and assocated gubbins to take it up some more still. I'd expect 190-200 by the time I've finished and in a car that weighs less than a tonne, that ain't so bad :D

Flipping eck that must go well

I test drove a new MX5 before i bought my Fabia vRS and loved it except for the engine - a bit uninspiring

I suppose forced induction would solve that :D

It's pretty nippy to say the least :D

One thing that is going well is my clutch - it's just not up to the job :thumbdwn: Time for a HD one I reckon :)

There's some MX5's with a lot more power than mine - I've been in a 244bhp (dynoed) '5 that goes like a bullet, and there's some claiming 275bhp+. I can believe it too - it's a lot of money to spend though to get that amount of power.

Daz

Hi Daz,

Nice to see you over here!

Just thought I'd post to show a bit of solidarity between us MX5 owners, although at least I have an excuse to be on here!

I see you got the usual "hairdresser" jokes then... ... as usual they don't know what thier missing eh?

Sounds like you've got the pulley problem sorted but I'd be surprised if it was only putting out 150-160bhp but then thinking about it your's is a 1.6 isn't it so that's still a 30-40% increase from an intial bog standard install. I guess once you get things a bit more sorted you'll be up closer with Toofast and PJLarge! :D

  • Author

Yeah, what *AM* I doing here? :D :silly:

Pulley problem is solved but it could still benefit from a little more setting up, think I need to angle the supercharger a bit better, the belts don't line up as I'd like them and I'm getting a lot of belt dust

My 150-160bhp is just an estimate from how it feels. I suppose I'll get it dynoed some day to find out :D

Daz

OAP's what, and which OAP are we talking about? BTW, Geoff, you don't need to be an OAP to get a concessionary rate if female pensioners are offered one - you just need to be over 60. Lots of shops and cinemas get that one wrong. They are not allowed to discriminate against men on age grounds, hence they should say 'over 60s' not 'pensioners' or the very derogatory term 'OAP'. (I have been a pensioner since 52 - that's age, not year. :D )

And getting back on topic, welcome to Briskoda, Daz Mk2! We're mainly a pretty friendly bunch here, although some topics can make some members get a bit hot under the collar. And be warned that some members have NSOH. OTOH 4X4 owners have a GSOH.

4X4 owners have a GSOH.

You'd certainly need it to buy one ;)

:P Hey welcome daz! For all you skoda owners, and notably GEOFF...don't be knocking MX 5's.If I was choosing a sports car,yes sports car at a sub 15 grand price,it would most deffo be an MX5.Lookin at an excellent site the other night called 'peaches and lemons',where owners of any make of car can air their opinions. Look at the MX5 page and not one of the owners awarded their cars a lemon Testement indeed! c.j.

welcome to Briskoda, Daz Mk2!
Hey welcome daz!

Cheers guys :) I may end up at the meet on the 24th with my brother (DaveR). Undecided whether to bring the 'hairdressers car' for you all to laugh at

Daz

Go on Daz you know you want to... if only to quash a few more of those "hairdresser" preconceptions! (and maybe to scare a few on the twisty bits? ;) )

 My bro has invaded my space with his green gremlin! don't welcome him tooo much or he'll start flashing, next thing he is running around topless!

seriously though, we went for a spin the other day but didn't really get chance to try his mx5 against my Octy vRS, besides he still has a few little niggles to sort out like a fried clutch but when he's got it sorted we are going to try a head to head on our local ( private :snail: drag strip).....ill post the results, but he knows that he is onto a loser because if he wins.......Look in the mirror and say Jabba five times! whoops 240bhp!

I also do not own a Skoda but my brother does i happen to put up with a vauxhall cavalier 2.0 16v gls oops never mind but if im lucky my brother lets me take his Vrs out which isnt very often i must say
