Octy II vRS reverse sensor positions

Featured Replies

OK, ordered the reverse sensor kit off Fleabay, non original, does anyone have the setting out dimensions for the sensors in the back bumber?

Bump, no-one got the info?

I'd suggest measuring a car with them already fitted.

I'm away from home at the moment else I'd measure mine for you but I think Steve may well help you out in a bit.

Not sure if this info is readily available so I will take some measurements from mine and post it up later.

Has anyone been able to have a look at this yet? I'm gonna be fitting mine soon and would be interested to know ...otherwise I'm gonna be sneaking around asda car park with a tape measure :D

also... are we talking about hatch, or the estate?

I did find this image though, which gives a pretty good indication:

..just below the crease - and you can get reference point from the "cats eye" reflector below - about half way along for the outer ones. Not sure how pinpoint accurate you need to be though?

Howya,

I meant to reply earlier to ya :o , just measured mine.

NOTE ALL MEASUREMENTS ARE TO THE "EDGE" OF THE SENSOR,

btw Sensor is 1" diameter.

Mine 2 middle ones are about 8-9mm from the crease (just measure in darkness :) the outside ones are about 9-10mm from the crease.

The 2 middle ones are exactly 17 inches from each other and the 2 outer ones are exactly 15 inches from them.

So

0-------15"-------0----------17"----------0----------15"--------0

Also I hope attached helps.

Btw mines a Hatch

How much is a new rear bumper with the holes already in it?

I am thinking of going down this route with the cobra parkmaster kit. Then I can remove the bumper and sensors at the time of sale if I wish and put back on the original.

Anyone have the sensor hole diameters for the original rear bumper?

Thanks,

Trevor

Dont think the bumper has holes in it. the factory sensors sit in the bumper strip (if fitted) and you have to make the holes if they dont.

Thanks Lummox but I am talking about a vRS rear bumper?

Thats why i said IF the strip is fitted. If not you have to drill them yourself.

However ETOS does list a different bumper so maybe my old parts dept were just mugging me off...lol

Still they are marked on the rear where to drill iirc.

I was told (following my tip) that a new bumper came pre-drilled for sensors.

Thanks very much for the info Gaff - that's just what I needed. When I get a sunday free to have a look at it, i'll try and take some pics and create a mini how-to for retro fitting the sensors.

As I see in ETKA - you are right. But for me is interesting - can we find a position for holes on the inner side of non-drilled bumper? Om my previous car it was.

Guinness - when you remove your bumper, please let me (or us) know about it :)

Mine bumper (with sensors) will be off if a few weeks if theres something in particular someone wants to know.

I am so sorry, forgot all about this and have been away for a few days. Please accept my apology for not getting back to you when I'd promissed :o

Yea yea  :P , I seen your previous post and put measuring them on the long finger, I thought I'd better get the finger out when you hadn't put up the figures

Looks like a rear bumper is 350 euro including VAT with the holes in it. :-(

I can answer to myself :) When I came from work today, I open a bonet and try to touch a bumper from inside where the original sensor usually placed (I have no front sensors from a factory, only rear). And it is possible to touch a left corner (I have a LHD car, on RHD this may differ) from inside and my fingers find a circle inside between washer and fog lamp (I have a vRS, but can find picture only of Elegance)!

Guinness, I think when you remove your rear bumper, you will find four circle on it from inside - where the original holes must be.

actually, I was kind of hoping that this was going to be possible without removing the bumper. Does anyone know whether this is possible? I haven't looked at the job really yet, but I was expecting to be able to just remove the lower internal boot trim and find an opening to fish the wires through?

Doesn't help that I also dont have a clue how to remove the boot trim

I can see my how-to quickly turning into a how-not-to!

Ok, I'm nearly there - I'm past the terrifying part that is drilling the bumper - and I'm very pleased with how they're looking.

For the record, apart from measuring over and over and over :), it was very easy - you do not have to remove anything (except the spare wheel, to give yourself some room).

All I need now is someone to tell me where to get power for the damn things! The cables are currently routed close the passenger side, but I can shift over if it's easier? Got some scotchlock connectors at the ready - can anyone help me with the wire colours for the reverse light, and a good earthing point?

Also, in fiddling about with the lights, somehow I've lit the bulb warning light on the dash - can I easily reset this??

As soon as I'm done, I'll put together a short how-to (I've taken a few pics along the way), but here's how they're looking so far...

Looks good that.

Do you need a live power as such, these normally feed from the reverse light and the ground.

thanks - glad you like :)

No, not a constant live. Like you say, just want to feed from the reverse light, but not sure of the colours. I followed the "tracks" around the light cluster and i think the live is the black/blue, but would prefer to be sure before i start splicing!

Also, not sure if there's an earth on the connector, or whether to use car body? I guess since light cluster is all plastic, there must be an earth at the connector?

I would guess Brown on the connector for ground. A multimeter should help, and you can locate the reverse light cable too.

thanks VRStu - you were right. Ground = brown, reverse light live = blue/black. I'm all up and running now, apart from the sensors being way too sensitive! Unscrewed the box and found that they have some adjustment, so will keep trying :D
