Is a BMW 123D the best "World Car" - discuss

Featured Replies

aren't BMW having problems with their turbos ?

Your info might be more up to date than mine, but my understanding from a bit of digging was that previous shape 5's and 3's liked to lunch turbos, but they changed the turbo design to use stronger metal bearings or something and problems are now few and far between.....

If you're buying new or nearly new warranty should cover it anyway :D

Yes I had driven one Amanda.

I drove a 123d M-sport and very nice it was too. I've started my saving fund :)

If you are thinking about it take one out and find out for yourself as it is a great fun car that can be used daily.

Assuming 2008 MY the cars are:

- 118d is 147bhp, band B tax

- 120d is 177bhp, band C tax

- 123d is 204bhp, band ??? tax.

The 118 and 120 and 123 are all the same basic engine. The 118/120 have a few tweaks and a different turbo.

The 123d i believe has stronger internals and a twin turbo.

Whats the difference between the 123 and the 118 diesels? I fancy a 118D SE or sport , would prefer the 3 door though.

Check out Drivethedeal for some great offers. I very much doubt the dealer will be able to match them, but I will give them first bite and if they can get very close (assuming I like the car) then

Dont know whether you have someone who has given economy figures or what ileage the car was at. I know my dad had a 123 as a coutesy car with the engine stop (i think) and gear change stuff on and got prteey poor mpg despite trying on a mostly a road/ motorway run. That siad it only had around 2k. I think he said mpg was 43.

43mpg + 148mph + 6.7 (0-60) + 138g/km = :):):):):):):):):)

6.7 (0-60)

Poor Wilberpog - gonna be pensioned off soon I fear, and for a Bangle handbag (roomwise) with no spare tyre.

When did he get that since it was only available to order for a short while and the dealers were getting the first demo cars in over the last month?

I have just ordered a 123d M sport 3 door in white with black leather, heated seats and the 18' wheels. Drove the car the other day absoutely awesome allrounder. it was literally out of the compound so was quite gentle with it but got 46.8 mpg over about 20 miles with some bursts of acceleration. It is very quiet and smooth with no lag due to the twin turbos.

I used drive the deal as a basis for a deal but they said no discount initially. ended up getting an amazing deal from the local dealer, slightly more at list but miles cheaper on the PCP, delivery should be start of December and I can't wait!!!

Ah ha DRBSheffield, I found you just now on a MB site proclaiming you are deserting them and going over to the dark side.

Mmmm white 3 door 123D M sport? Sounds good to me!!! Pics please when you get it! (how did you guess my ideal 1 series spec , by the way?...lol!)

I wimped out on the colour front because of resale values (white is the new black at the moment, but in 2 years time it will be just white again) so I went for Silver on slightly tweaked alloys but stayed with 17

Cue jokes about making sure you spec'd working indicators... :P:rolleyes::D

Did you order a 3 or 5 door?

I didn’t order indicators as they are worthless when it comes to resale. I went for the 3 door SE with the 205/50/17” front and 225/45/17” rears. Sadly I then ost the plot and order 2 pages of extra bits and bobs. But I got over

2 pages worth  will you be able to fit that all into your sig :P

Only if I use English and not marketing speak. I have order seat heaters this time

Gotta love marketing speak!

Can't say I spotted that in the Focus brochure I've got... you can tweak more of the settings on the trip computer than you can in the Fabia, the different settings for the steering is cool as well.

I wish I had heated seats in the Fabia... that took too long to heat up in winter... downside of diesel I guess. The Focus warms up much quicker

The latest 1 series allegedly warm up much quicker than before as they can close flaps to stop cold air getting to the radiator during warm up, and the stop start doesn

Do you get the funky i-drive thingy in the 1 series then?

I have to tell someone the spec I
