I'd be interested to see some lap times for the Integra and the Fiat.

Hmm well I was thinking about a 1 series.. but think I'll have to get a fiat coupe turbo instead now

Ah, but remember we are talking REAL WORLD and who in the REAL WORLD takes their cars on a track?

What? You mean you're not considering a 530d? You'll be flushing your pennies down the toilet! :nono: ;):D

I'd love to see a Fiat Coupe with 270bhp, crack 170mph. :) What's it being towed by to achieve that? A 123D?

Don't be daft - the BM will be electronically limited to 155mph. Probably towed by some slow old Jap cr@p. Supra or Skyline? :D

Chris

35mpg for a 3 litre engine driven hard! That is impressive! a friend of mine has a Seat Leon Cupra (old shape) 150bhp 1.9 litre diesel and although he says its economical it dissapoints on economy when he nails it!

May I suggest three things:

1) You read this PistonHeads Headlines

2) You then read this Spare a thought...

3) You admit that you are a ******.

Amid all this frippery, that is actually a very touching storey on that "Spare a thought" link.:(

Hey I her Tenacious D are releasing a new song dedicated to the 123d :P

I'll bet it's the best song in the world!

Sorry!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread (and possibly Welshys BMW xenophobia) but has anyone driven a 123D? I have a bit of a liking for this model, at least on paper and if I can live with its small boot and odd looks, I really do fancy one. 0-62 in 6.9 (great for a standing start in a diesel) max of 148mph (good for motorway cruising) and real world mpg of possibly 50mpg on long runs. I could just about afford a good spec too if Drive the Deal are anything to go by (

Whats the difference between the 123 and the 118 diesels? I fancy a 118D SE or sport , would prefer the 3 door though.

Well given a std 20v Turbo does 0-60 in 6.0 and 0-100mph in 14seconds its much faster than any of the hottest hot hatch available today by a margin.

What cars are quicker? Jag XJR 370bhp is a 13.0 second car to 100mph BMW 335D is a 13.99 Porche 996 911 Carrera 2 does 0-100 in 11 seconds the old M3 does it in 11.9 seconds.

So you could say its in the ball park area of very pricy machinery - youd need to spend a lot of a car to go notably faster.

If you know of a std production car of any age which costs less that

0-62 in 6.9 (great for a standing start in a diesel)

Bit of an understatement there.......

Yes I had driven one Amanda.

I drove a 123d M-sport and very nice it was too. I've started my saving fund :)

If you are thinking about it take one out and find out for yourself as it is a great fun car that can be used daily.

Assuming 2008 MY the cars are:

- 118d is 147bhp, band B tax

- 120d is 177bhp, band C tax

- 123d is 204bhp, band ??? tax.

The 118 and 120 and 123 are all the same basic engine. The 118/120 have a few tweaks and a different turbo.

The 123d i believe has stronger internals and a twin turbo.

HTH

Trouble is she's used to a DSG - so it'll be more like a standing stop :D

could not live with a birmingham Motor Works badge round here - would get paint strippered or keyed beemer drivers not liked

Are not the more upmarket 1-Series variants a bit 'rumbly' on the motorway ?

I got that impression from some reports - partially from their use of run-flat (and no spare :thumbdwn:) tyres.

Not really. All standard Fabia's do that.

I quite like the 1 series and did look into the 130i but used ones are still out of my price range :(

Nope, but then they are all on second generation run flats now.

Cool on the 123d being band C, they didn't have band info when i was in the dealer.

Not really. All standard Fabia's do that.

I was talking about 'normal' diesel cars.......

Nope, but then they are all on second generation run flats now.

Yeah band C is pretty good for a car with that many horses

It is insurance grp 16 though... and how much more are run-flat tyres over normal ones?
