Well not that i could see, the engine was off and i took the top of the case off, the green light was lit. Started the car and the green light stayed on, gave the engine a little throttle on the drive and i'm pretty sure(peering through the bonnet there was no flashing or red light ever on

I put mine back on today as the car was feeling sluggish lol

It seems a fair bit quicker now, but unfortunatly the small stutter still exists.

Could someone tell me what the LED's should be doing?

My red LED is never lit, the green is constant when the engine is off, and it flashes when it is on

@MattCooper79

That's exactly what happens with mine - and I've had several looks at it lately because of a mystery engine management light! :( Seeing how the engine will run with the box in-line but not powered-up, I suggest you check and clean all the connections, as it would appear the box is getting power but not recognising that the car's been started. I can't really explain how this would work in practice in terms of dodgy connections, but it's got to be worth a try!

so the green should flash when started?

Er, I think so. Was more looking for red lights TBH, but I think it's steady green while the engine's off and flashing green when it's on...

Thats interesting, so the general belief is green light stays on when engine is off then flashes when the engine is turned on.

Sorry, so what should the red light be doing then??

Matt

Nothing. AIUI, it only comes on if something's wrong...

If the green LED doesn't flash when the engine is on does this mean the box is working incorrectly. I feel the extra power though and have not any engine management issues.

The box is off at the moment as the car has just got back from the dealers for warranty issues. I will clean the connections and report back soon

Matt

It might depend what setting your box is on, or what version of it you have... :ne_nau:

I wonder if i may ask for some advice!!!!!????

I have just bought another Dragon Box for my fabia Vrs (16 setting version). I bought it off ebay and it has arrived with no jumpers to change the settings even though it doesn't mention this on the ebay advert.

I contacted the seller who sugegsted using a "paper clip" or something from an "old computer". The goods are not in the condition as advertised. I mentioned that i would like a refund but i am yet to get a reply.

Am i over reacting or should i be pushing for a refund.????

Or maybe does anybody have some jumpers for a 16 pin Dragon tuning box they dont need???

Thanks for any advice

Matt

Try your local computer shop as they may give you a jumper for nowt.

Another thing is if the seller is that bad is the dragon box even setup for the vRS??? There's no way of knowing other than dragon checking it for you.

Cheers

Dave.

Thanks, Maybe i'm wrong here but as long as it came off a 1.9 PD TDI 130 its ok to run on the VRS?????

She says it came off a Passat with the same engine. Like you say how reliable is she though!!!

Yeah as long as it came off a 1.9 130PD you're ok.

In relation to the poll on this thread though i've finally settled on setting 6 of 7 on mine as it seems to give the smoothest running..... On the Awesome RR last week it kicked out 165.3 HP and 298 ft/lb torque too!!!! :D

Cheers

Ah ok thats interesting figures. i like the theory of the tuning boxes as you can re sell them and when i sell the car it can be sold as standard.

How long have you been running your box for???

Have you had any problems and do you get much more smoke??

I've had mine on since August/September 2007 with no probs. It was a little bit rough / ragged when it was on setting 7 but since moving it to setting 6 it's better. Only prob i've had is when i hit the speed limiter the other month the car went into limp mode and the dragon box needed reseting too..... that's when i went from setting 7 to 6.

It kicks out a little more clag than our other vRS which hasn't got a dragon box but mine has always been a little more smoky even before the dragon box.

When comparing the mpg using the figures in my sig my car even has slightly better mpg than the standard car.

Sorry if this is a silly question but when oyu say speed limiter do you mean the rev limiter in any given gear??!!??!!

Also do you know the term for the jumpers that change the settings???

No it was the speed limiter...... It's a long story. ;)

As for the jumpers take the box with you and ask for a jumper to fit those pins..... they come in slightly different sizes.

So whats the difference between a Dragon Box and a "Tuning box" which is just a resistor, to tell the ecu the air is denser (or something like that).

Like this...

PD TDI Chip Tuning Box Skoda Fabia +38 hp70NM on eBay, also Chips, Performance Tuning Parts, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 29-Nov-08 19:00:00 GMT)

Cant see the Dragon boxes being any more than a row of different resistors they you jump to get the desired result.

If so, NEVER put two jumpers on at the same time.

Dave

Dave

What you have shown there doesn't connect to the battery. it does not vary the fuel input as the revs rise like a tuning box does. i'm no expert but digital tuning boxes offer increases in power with resale ability and are far less crude than a simple sensor device tricking the fuel sensor like you mentioned resistor mod!!

Matt

Dave, below shows the different settings for the jumpers inside the dragon tuning box to give the settings from 1-16.

They are not separate to eachother and allow the user to adjust the settings of the tuning box in a controlled way!!

Hope this helps

1 - pin

0 - no pin (jumper - whatever)

1 1 1 1 = setting 1

0 1 1 1 = 2

1 0 1 1 = 3

0 0 1 1 = 4

1 1 0 1 = 5

0 1 0 1 = 6

1 0 0 1 = 7

0 0 0 1 = 8

1 1 1 0 = 9

0 1 1 0 = 10

1 0 1 0 = 11

0 0 1 0 = 12

1 1 0 0 = 13

0 1 0 0 = 14

1 0 0 0 = 15

0 0 0 0 = 16 wow

The digital tuning boxes like the dragon box are just that..... Digital. The prom contains various maps.... each one selected using a specific jumper setting hence Matt needing a jumper.

The dragon box only overfuels between certain points....... If you look at my car info link in my sig you'll see an attachment on page 3 i think of my Rolling Road graph where you can see the dragon box stopping over fuelling at just over 4000rpm.

Aaa, cool.

So how much do these Dragon boxes cost?

Tryed looking on ebay, but nothing!

Dave

I would have thought between £100 and £150 ish.

I had one which i sold a short while ago for £120 inc P&P which i thought was fair.

Keep looking mate, they do come up

Matt asked me how i'd routed the cabling for the dragon box so here's some pics which will hopefully show one option for installing the box. :)

The 'Y' cable run over the PD160 intake....

The cable then runs nicely between the back of the battery and the air box....

Then out and around the back of the washer filler....

And in to the dragon box which fits just nicely behind the NS indicator. It's held in place by a small lump of trusty Blu-Tak.... :) Note the D-Type connector has been wrapped in black electrical tape so as to protect against any water spillage when filling the washer bottle.

And a couple of shots of the overall layout....

Almost identical to how I've done mine, except I've cable tied mine to the battery holder. Got bored of it knocking about, and blu-taks a bit crude isn't it :P

Aside: are you running headlight protectors?

lol I know blu-tak isn't the most advanced of solutions but it holds the box up against the bodywork well and stops it rattling around and is easily removed when required. :)

Yeah we have headlight protectors on both our cars as they do a lot of motorway miles and i didn't fancy the cost of replacing a headlight unit on a xenon equipped car. We got both sets from the local stealers last year think they cost somewhere between £10 and £20 a pair.

Dave.
