bushes: Cupra R or Powerflex, which ?

Featured Replies

Sorry - am I missing something here? - but why can't someone fit the rear AND fromt PD160 bushes to the vRS? ie instead of the Powerflex?

Or do only the rear ones fit the Fabia?

My dealer got back to me this am - he was kinda puzzled by the cupra bushes and wasn't too keen to fit them - saying that there's no collar on them or summat... May have to do it DIY (and I am getting fed up by the amount of hard work I'm doing myself on the car tbh!!! ) If powerflex make a 2-piece bush that just slides in, may go that route - don't fancy removing the console (again) and dont have the proper tool to fit it on the car....

stuno1, the original voided bushes are prone to early failure and so will their replacements if voided ones are used.

Fab vRS, most people have been talking about the front and rear bushes for the FRONT track control arm. Normally it is not possible to replace the small front one - it has collarS at both ends and you need to destroy it to repmove it - and VAG do not supply new parts. One way round this is to fit the two part Powerflex bush assembly in the front of the TCA. Or it MIGHT be possible to fit the Audi A2 ones that are supplied as a three part kit of parts - but no one appears to have tried this (yet)

Basil, yes he's right there is no collar or lip on the Cupra bushes - but they only need to to pressed in until they are at the right point in the console - the original bushes have a collar or lip so its obvious when the right point has been reached.

Just another question on this topic, does anyone know if the Audi A2 TCA front bushes will fit the TCA on the other cars - I see that the Audi has an aluminium TCA but is the hole the same size - these bushes are available as a three part kit so if they are okay size wise, then they would be easy to fit. Its just that its a bit too ackward to remove a TCA destroy the front bush then have to rush off and order some Powerflex ones - on the other hand maybe I should check if Powerflex supply bushes for the A2 and check if its the same number for Fabia etc!

AFAIK the A2 bushes are the same size as the Fabia/Polo/Ibiza , the consoles even look the same , VW fox maybe the same also

from memory , doesn't the A2 have the solid bush fitted ?

The A2 is a solid bush yes.

And the front wishbone bush is the same on the Cupra as the vRS. Easiest way to get them out is a socket and nut and bolt and just pull them out.

Hi all I need to do the same to mine and wasnt to sure what ones to go for just to confirm it is bushes from a seat ibiza PD160

Changed the front wishbone and console bushes today.

I used the Powerflex bushes to replace the front wishbone bushes and the Seat cupra bushes for the rear.

This was done WITHOUT removing the consoles.

For anyone carrying this work without suitable pullers/tools I would recommend taking the consoles off due to the difficulty in getting the wishbone back into the new cupra bushes.

I now have a set of custome made pullers to carry out this job, thanks to a friend who made them for me in his workshop. There have also been a suitable custom made bush remover for sale on ebay at a starting price of £159 recently.

The powerflex bushes can be purchased from Sarah at Awsome-GTi.

Cupra bushes take about 2 days to obtain from the Seat dealer.

I have an email from Powerflex stating that their rear bush is the insert and would require a new standard bush to be fitted before adding their uddder.

Hope this is useful to anyone else carring out the bush replacements.

Well done.

Any chance of a diagram of your puller tools with measurements so I can make my own.

Or has anyone else changed the rear bushes (successfully) with home made tools etc.

Jules

Hi

Yes as has been stated it is inserts on the rears

You do need new bushes to put the inserts in

I had a chat with Powerflex in regards these bushes a while back and they told me that there has been an update on the bushes

But then we did fit some of the new solid ones from Seat on saturday and from what I have been told , these was extreamly good afterwards

That was the Powerflex ones on the front

All I can say is , if you are looking at getting the Seat ones , get them now before Seat up the price to a rediculas amount

Sarah

Ill take some photos of the pullers as requested but as I am currently in Northern/Southern Ireland I won't have broadband access to upload them until Friday.

My puller is similar to this one on ebay

If anyone's interested, this item has been listed again on ebay at a buy now price of £159. I just hope that I can resist buying it as it seems to lack the guidance system - ie any means of registering it via the front TCA fixing bolt - that Lummox indicated the VAG one had to keep the new bush in-line with the console "bush bore". Without this it could be very tricky to get the cupra bushes in. It could be okay for the voided bushes - but what's the point in using them just so that you can change your own bushes every year. I'm still almost tempted though -sure I've got a space for it plus it would satisy my ebay addiction!!

The FRONT track control arm?

Okay, so assuming the vRS has a rear one too, do these bushes need replacing too? And with what?

Or do only the fronts fail because of all the weight?

The back only has a bush for the rear beam - one each side - and from memory no-one has ever had to touch these.
