Just got Annihilated by a Fiesta ST?!

VED and Emissions - All of this assumes you believe CO2 damages the environment - it's still only a theory - and that the man made CO2 is significant enough compared with naturally produced CO2.

Now there's an argument. :D

95% is alledgedly produced naturally - a mere 5% by "man".

Welshy you really are troll/tool.

Fiesta ST's may hav a normally aspirated lump however the 2.0 duratec proves most responsive to modifications. A friend gained 7 horses from just a filter and induction kit, and the Dyno operator where we got the car tested said he'd seen another Fiesta ST with just a few modifcations pull 170bhp.

Even Ford themselves have announced a retrofittable upgrade for both the Focus ST and the Fiesta ST, the latter of which gives 185bhp... and that only costs £1,500ish.

FORD DEALERS OFFER MORE POWER FOR FIESTA ST

...Ford is offering Fiesta ST customers in the UK a unique opportunity to buy performance upgrades for their cars through a choice of two special dealer-fit options.

The Mountune Performance Stage 1 package will retail at £1,435 (plus fitting) and consists of a high-flow air induction system, a high performance exhaust system including high flow catalyst and tubular manifold, and re-calibration of Ford’s potent 2.0-litre Duratec ST engine to produce 165PS.

The more powerful Mountune Performance Stage 2 package will cost £1,838 (plus fitting) and adds new camshafts and valve springs to the basic package to deliver 185PS....

Sounds like a nice little motor actually...

Just to add my 2 pennies worth. A red FiestaST with white stripes just made my car look very ordinary and royally kicked my smokey butt.

Thats because he has 150bhp and you have 130bhp and your car weighs twice as much :P

Ffs!

i thought it was all about teh torques???

:P:P

hi all how ya doin,

sorry for bumping this thread but its been funny to read and uv mentioned the car i drive so i thought i'd share my thoughts with u cos i used to be like a lot of people in here thinking of cars in terms of BHP and 0-60 times/ straight line speeds but since i got this 2 months ago, 0-60 times etc mean nothing to me

Picture016.jpg

Your cars a nippy little fecker and from a standing start you cant arf shift, you might even be able to give me a run for my money in a straight line, but the difference between imprezas/Evo's and other cars like yours is the level of grip they produce. It makes no diference whether there's a monsoon or 8 inches of snow they find it and even when you can feel you have absolutely no grip at all under you, the car still goes where ever you want it to go.

what this means on the road is, imagine approaching a round about at 70 mph, while u will have to brake and drop to 3rd to go round it, i drop to 4th and accelerate and it dont matter how bad a driver i am or fast im going or how out of shape i am, the ecu will keep the car pointing in the right direction and get me round. its great fun :D !!!

great fun = gp 19 insurance and 15mpg

And your point is ........................

i get the same thing with my octavia(its 4wd) :)

it just goes anytime anywhere.

my point is fatty youre all going on about straight line speed and u can give me a run for my money, concentrate on handling rather than BHP, but u wanna probably wanna loose some weight and u'll get loads more speed

Handling + weight is the reason I've done what I have to mine. Battery in the boot means improved weight distribution, as does removing the broken aircon complete, and replacing the steel bonnet with a carbon affair. I have probably taken around 50kg off the front axle, which I think helps with handling, as the vRS is definitely not 50:50 distributed.

Next step for me is removing metalwork from elsewhere - behind doorcards, bootlid, etc. I will get my weight down to a respectable level eventually I'm sure.

Oh, and handling is also about having the right bits and bobs too of course. :) I've found immense improvements thanks to KW V1s, Jabba's dogbone mount and the rear ARB, the brembo brakes, T1-R tyres and last but not least, the peloquin limited slip diff.

Why have you joined this site, you have made two posts and neither have been produtive :thumbdwn:

As for saying someone needs to loose weight, how would you know??????

Think he is refering to the car, at least I hope he is.

Not productive though :thumbdwn: Then again this thread was never going to be.

I never said anything of the sort. What I was getting at with my question is why join a Skoda site when you drive a scooby and with your first post make a statement about how grippy your car is in comparison to everyone else's and how good it is in snow. I just wondered what your point was. Are you buying a Skoda or maybe thinking about it??

As for your losing weight comment it has just done it for me now. I'm off the pies and cakes for good from now on your brilliant advice. Or am I even fat

Or you could have just pushed a fat man over the edge into a word of vommiting after eating meals or gloating on the internet about my cars grip levels either way they are both sad places to be in this day and age.

Do you talk like this in the pub about your mates cars?? Do you have any mates left??

No Martin I think he was referring to my waistline.

OMG I hope he doesn't mean it I don't like being called fatty

Sorry for this going slighty off topic

HMMM .......topic's ...chocolate

May I post this?

YouTube - 5gear Colt CZT vs Fiesta ST

In particular pay attention to the leaderboard - Faster than the Leon Cupra R, Mini Cooper S... ;)

is this still going on?

Face facts A ST is faster than a fabia VRS!

Click on link too see what a fabia vrs driver does of the ford st

I am not argueing about which car is faster, the Fabia is heavy so won't keep up with some cars.

I took exception to a new member, joining the site and being personal about other members :)

There is a huge difference between handling and grip levels. Any car can be set up to pull high Gs. Try a mid 90s Corvette, loads of grip, not much handling. The real talented cars give you feedback and grip together. Trouble is that so many modern performance cars have the capability to go way faster than the average or even above average driver can manage. All is well accelerating into your roundabout until something goes wrong. The laws of physics stand, and the ultimate speeds a car can go around a roundabout, or a twisty track for that matter are not much different between shoppers and 4WD stuff. The 4WD stuff just makes it easier to get the speed without applying the skill. A soaking wet airfield handling day a while back showed a 320bhp Scooby covering the track in a similar time to various Fabias and I believe in the slalom course, a Fabia came out quickest on the day. There were various Elises / Exiges there too. Not too bad for a front heavy understeer monster.

Just my opinion, but an ultimate racing car should be all bout grip and speed. The ultimate road car should be all about finesses feedback and balance. Having a road car that takes the need for all of that away is not impressive IMO.

What is needed on the road is a car that makes the driver work to make the speed. These 4wd wonder chariots are fine, but they are ultimately unrewarding to drive if you really wnat to develop your car control skills.

The Fabia is flawed due to it's hefty front end, but it can be hustled along at pretty silly speeds in wet conditions by just playing the power against the understeer even up into 3 figure speeds. It is great fun and scary cos you have no safety net.

lol i havent even read this link just wanted to put a pic of an ST up and have a bit of a joke.

I would still buy a Fabia as FORD cars seem to be built out of crap.

Less crap in my Ford than there ever was in my Skoda.

Couple of lads at work are looking at buying Mondeo ST TDCi's. One went to look at one at a dealer and found the rear seats had no carpet on the back of them on the boot facing side. This surprised me as the lowly Fabia has this. He also said that it felt a little cheap and plasticy, and this is compared to his own car- a Peugeot 307 XSi.....

The Fiesta I had as a hire car (1.4 TDCi thingy) was ok but did feel a little cheap compared to the Fabia, internally. Switchgear, display, all that didn't feel as well put together. The one thing I did prefer was the gearbox. Lovely feel to it with no slack.

Thats funny as we looked at a Fabia (non vrs) for SHMBO and we thought they are VERY plasticy inside (even the 6 month old demonstrator), especially the steering wheel, the Fiesta she eventually bought wasn't even on the shopping list - until she drove it.

I was trying to steer her towards a VAG car, but she was having non of it, i must admit though the ones were sat in and drove fell well short of my expectations.

She has now however got her heart set on a Polo.
