Featured Replies

he is talking about an ST170 with a gt28 running around 300bhp.

That might be an issue......even for my Veyron Slayer™

Not taking any side just pointing out a fact as if you modify the car then you have to declare to insurance and costs will go up.

Most of the time I would agree with that... but it's not always the case ;):D

Petrol Vs Diesel

Interesting......not 100% relevant but shows the differences between a fettled petrol and diesel and the costs involved.

My god thats a long thread.

It didnt really go anywhere anyway waist of time.

You just cant compare moddified cars like these, there 2 different.

Remember top gear with the Monaro vxr against FQ400 evo??

400hp but the FQ toasted the monaro 6 sec a lap quicker.

The evo might have blitz the v8 but only on the track as

1-the steering lock is so bad you couldn't do even a 5 point turn

2- it uses even more fuel than the 8 cylinder block

3 its rock hard no comfort evera

4 its power is so far up the revs a panda could beat it around town

5 it needs serviced every 3 k

the monaro can potter about all day with out causing legs arms and head aches

due to the total uncomprimising totaly focused on speed design of the evo.

I know its just an example but it does show 2 cars both same objectives

to be fast and handle great. But being that the Evo is so far beyond the holden/vaux in tuning its comporomised itself to much to be as user friendly and a good all rounder.

So by compairing different makes when moddified is pointless as you'll have some that are souly for track and some that are a wee bit softer that go fast.

Anyone remember red top powered corsas?? very quick but not really that nice to drive.

My car will **** on your car blah blah blah, my Fabia vRS can take anything blah blah, fact is Fiesta ST has 130bhp per ton and also weighs 150kg less, so in thoery it will go round corners quicker, but that fact is lost on some people seeing as they think thier Fabia is the quickest thing since the Jet plane!

Just go to santa pod and race one and stop posting bragging posts about how quick something is. Only way to put your money where your mouth is is to race an ST at the pod.

I never said any of that!!! All I wanted to know was peoples views on what could have been done to the sodding fiesta. I know it was was faster. I think this thread now needs locking, burning and putting in the dirt.

:smashfrea

This thread rocks.........

Still not as good as the "Mustang" one though.... but keep up the good work fella's...

Time to check out the "Remapped VRS CTR Killer" one now which seems on a par

It was probably standard...

:sofahide:

:D

Rob.

Anyone for a trackday? Not been to the new anglesey yet :)

mine hits 201mph.. :p

but still i reckon a standard V/RS would give a standard ST a good run and i would say it will be very very close race!

a well balenced sensible post joel,it will do no good in this thread:rofl::rofl::rofl:

PMSL

don't be so naive you fool, it mattters not where the power is in a cars rev range you drive it accordingly. just because a car hits peak torque say 5000rpm(like my mazda) you don't drive round expecting blistering performance at 1500rpm. do you drive a diesel upto 7000rpm as thats where some cars make their peak power? no because you drive the car accordingly.

Seems to be a number of quick Ford STs around. A post on SeatCupra.net recently with a Cupra R, got a surprise with a Focus ST, he had to give it some serious right foot to pull away.

No I don't but I think some one had a clarkson video in his Christmas stocking!

6 seconds a lap faster at this end of the spectrum is so f**king quick it is unbelievable!

It kept up with a £180K Lamborghini Murciélago on top gear, so you can't really expect it to behave like a civilised salon. The other FQ's aren't that bad to live with and still quick.

Just goes to prove that as long as you mod sensibly you can have best of both worlds

It was probably standard...

Sounds like it.

mmmm, GGR300 :D

Focus RS. is it still the fastest front wheel drive hatch?

when talking standard cars its nearly there, think its been pipped by the megane 225 F1 cup thingy though.

Alfa 147 GTA? Didn't that push 250bhp?

but more power doesn't always mean faster

Very true, the 147 was bonkers :D

alfa

246bhp 0-60 6.1 153mph

Focus RS

215bhp 0-60 6.2 144mph

megane 225

225bhp 0-60 6.1 147mph

leon cupra

236bhp 0-60 6.2 153mph

astra VXr

236bhp 0-60 6.2 152mph

Golf GTi E30

226bhp 0-60 6.4 151mph

so not a great deal in it really, all figures from parkers.co.uk :)

alfa

246bhp 0-60 6.1 153mph

Hmm, so about the same as a rear wheel drive Sierra sapphire Cosworth, 0-60 6.2 and 150mph, performance cars dont seem to have come very far speed wise, maybe in the handling stakes, but performance is near enough the same. And all the cosworth attained that speed without too many fancy electronic wizardry and at least it could put its power down, unlike all these front drive cars. I belive that is a big problem with the VXR and Alfa, or indeed any font wheel drive car.

Mazda MazdaSpeed 3

263bhp 0-60 5.8s 155mph (electronically limited).

You never know, they might even bring it out over here...

Not comparing like with like though - you're now getting Sapphire Cosworth performance in hot hatches, and at that hot hatches with such things as air conditioning and crash protection weighing them down.

A better relative comparison would be Sapphires against things like the Impreza/Legacy/Evo, etc.

True, but 150mph and 0-60 in 6.?? seconds isnt really that quick anymore. My battered saab 9000 carlsson from 1989 was roughly as quick.
