It was strong, but when people are stating a pro of a remap being that it can be undeclared to insurance then I get annoyed.

I was in very early this morning & my political correctness doesn't kick in till 9am but I stand by the content, if not the tone.

I can only see mention of removing a tuning box or re-mapping for a service..... Not that an item can be undisclosed to an insurance company.

Please be aware i'm totally with you on your sentiment as when i added my Dragon box it only added about £40 to the premium and the company i'm with still undercut the nearest rival by well over £100 even with all my mods.

Cheers

Dave.

You're gonna have to tell me who you're insured with. Direct Line poop themselves when you mention most mods which is what stops me doing any.

i toaly unerstand where your comin from. But sit yourself in my seat (or others) as im 21 was 20 when i took policy out and its 1200 a year for a fabia vrs.

Now anything that will screw the insurers back is a bonus.

especially if you go fast too

Ummm, you didn't have to buy a Fabia vRS. Surely you knew the insurance was going to be higher than a 1.0l Ka.

At the end of day driving around with invalid insurance is your choice, just don't expect the insurance company to be help when you need it. For the sake of £100 a year, just declare it

I did my insurance through Chris Knott....... Came to £299 initially with the Strutbrace and the rear ARB then the Dragon box adds another £40ish per year to the policy..... Still around £150 cheaper than the nearest 'no mods' quote never mind adding any mods etc.....

Yeah but the only people you end up screwing if you have an accident are the others involved when your insurance is voided. People really should start thinking about the total cost of a car inc. all the annual costs when buying a car and not just the initial price of the vehicle.

I was young once too and when i bought my first car i went for a little mkII 1.0 fiesta.... Sure i could have bought a more expensive car with insurance of £1000 a year but what would be the point....... All good things come to those who wait.

I can think of a few cars that i could probably afford to buy...... paying for the general running of them is a differant matter though.

Cheers

Dave.

As I've been contemplating a remap, I called my insurer this morning (Hefalump.co.uk) and they worked the figures out and it was effectively an 88% loading on my annual premium.

I'm glad I made the call before the remap rather than after...

I agree that anyone who doesn't declare mods to their insurance so is a ****!

I modified my Corsa LOADS and paid through the nose for it for years but that was my choice!

I'd rather stay legal and be insured than have another couple of hundred squid in my pocket and run the risk!

You may even be surprised as when I added the suspension kit to my Corsa my insurance co actually gave me a rebate as they said it made the car safer!!!!

Interesting; which insurance company is that?

i did consider the insurance as i has a focus st170 before hand so the insurance came down drastically.

wat do peeps declare a remap as, chip with ??% power increase

I said:

If you mod & don't insure then you're a ****. Simple as that.

Do i need to reiterate?

If you can't afford to mod legally then you can't afford to mod. Simple as that. Price a job completely (parts, fitting, insurance, etc) and then make your decision before doing it.

ALL insurance companies check for remaps because it's such an easy excuse to not pay out. Not only that but you have no public liability insurance so I could take you to court for my unrecovered losses. Now imagine you hit a car transporter and wipe out several expensive cars - if you can't afford the insurance for a single mod, you can't afford a claim in court.

Your attitude is typical of the selfish children that fill the roads these days. Please, for your own sake grow up.

And before everyone dives on this as being unnecessarily harsh, it's not. You've got a kid who thinks it's fine to drive uninsured - if he hits you or your spouses/children/parents/friends on the way home how would you feel about it?

Go on SteVRs. I agree with you. I've been hit by an "uninsured" driver before, it cost ME a bloody fortune to fix the car! Am i the only one that would want to kick 7 bells outta the uninsured person that hit you? Dont be a clown, just insure the mods that you do.

:iagree:

When I started driving, the insurance cost more than the car over the time I owned it. This limited my choice of car, but I had to put up with it. Now I'm older and have some NCB, I can afford to insure a car with a bit of poke (though not that much, obviously! ) Even now, I think my insurance is steep, but it's a running cost just like petrol and servicing. You can't cut corners in the name of instant gratification. If you can't afford to pay for it, you shouldn't have it...

we all pay lots of money out for our cars (someone even grazes my car i'm out with the magnifying glass to see the damage) and insurance is part of the expense, face it, its a necessary evil, no point trying to "screw over" the insurance company!!!!!! probably one of the most STUPID comments someone can say......sorry

I would imagine you declare it as a remap..... you'll probably be asked what increase it gives the car etc..... I know that's what i was asked when i told them about the Dragon Box....

Dave.

I insured my fabia with chris knott and i worked out cheaper with a dragon box and a few other bits and bobs on the car than it did without a dragon box when i was insured by privelige

So its worth shopping around

That was the same with myself...... Chris Knott with Strutbrace, Rear ARB & Dragon Box was approx £50 cheaper than my other cheapest quote before even adding the mods to the policy!!!!!:eek::eek:

Cheers

Dave.

i would shop around but as im mid policy i cant exactly just say hey i wana mod my car so im cancelling the policy coz your not the cheapest can i?

Developing a ncb is the most important thing now so i cant just cancel, hav thought about it tho.

I see where your comin from but different people cut corners in different ways its a fact of life

yes you can, you never know they may reduce their quote.

More important than driving around with valid insurance?
