4x4 vRS

Featured Replies

ok, i been on this forum for a little while now and i keep seeing arguements about vRS Vs 4x4's and which is better.

vRS owners seem to think that the 4x4's are a bit crappy and girlie, yet a lot of them vRs owners think that a 4x4 vRS would be absolutely brilliant, am i missing someting but is this a bit stoopid.

correct me if i'm wrong here but the vRS is basically an octavia with a slightly different chip giving it an extra 30bhp, same engine though, lower/sportier shocks and a slightly different exhaust that comes directly out the back. apart from that its girlie pretty differences like leather, spoiler, different alloys and different grilles.

so what i'm getting at is how the heck do people think that a 4x4 vRS is going to be any different performance wise than my 4x4 once it has been chipped and played with for more power and changed the shocks to make it lower and stiffer??

or am i completely wrong on this?

err well it won't be - but it won't be a vRS :D

Must admit when I had my vRS over to Jabba - Elton said if he were going to buy an Octavia he would get a 4x4 and then fettle it - he would then have, as he described it a TT with a boot !!

... and if you noticed at the track day on Saturday, Elton was driving the exact same 4x4 Estate in green as mine... except that the suspension, brakes and interior had been adjusted !

Rob

You may have the same power - but you'll loose it thru drivetrain losses + inferiority complexes.

Sorry - nice to dream tho - we all do it ;)

but wot i am comparing is a 4x4 vrs and a mod'd 4x4. face it lads ya vRS is no more than an "octavia SXI" or likewise ;)

but you lads in vRS's with say, 250 bhp. do us a favour and do a little test, find an open bit of tarmac and rev it upto about 4.5k or so and then drop the clutch with ya TC turned off and see what happens, then think wot would happen in a 4x4 with the same power, and about when you are hamering it round a track and you are starting to get under steer where your front wheels dont have enough traction for you to apply power...................mmmmmmmmmmm 4x4

Understeer? What's that then?

:D

but wot i am comparing is a 4x4 vrs and a mod'd 4x4. :

How do you compare a 4x4 with a car that does not, and quite possibly never will exist?

Come back when you have a valid argument to "defend" your 4x4 and we can start again ;)

Until then, come to the next trackday and put your money where your mouth is...Oh, 4x4 drivers don't do that do they? With the notable exception of JabbaSport of course.

pppfffffrrrrrrtttttt, i would have been there but got set back by a slight arguement with a round about :(

its not that i'm challenging anyone just that i dont understand they thing with vrs owners and 4x4's, pah to all of you and i hope it snows

i'll be there next year, definite. and i hopefully will have my 4x4 played with like it deserves for much fun-ness

Taxi drivers do though :D

Bring it on Monkey Spanker! :loser:

... can't afford it. But did manage to hold the VX220 behind me on the straight for a while courtesy of Jabba. Shame I don't have their suspension and brakes !

Jon, perhaps i will, when i win the lottery and join the Briskoda "more money than sense" Brigade :P

Until then, i'll add bits to the car as and when i can ;)

bengie, leave them be with their extra bits of plastic, seats and carpets which show every mark, lowered suspension to facilitate sump pan breakage, pretty painted calipers, v// badges and boring colour options. When all's said and done, the vRS spec is only a tadge above Classic spec. And compared with the price of the 4X4 with its sophisticated running gear, not to mention Elegance spec, the vRS is actually a rip-off.

Exit left to watch Fashion TV....

Denis, go polish your tractor :P

Ah, must be the Val Doonican edition! guitar.gif

:D

Bengie, look what you've started (again!)

You've seen a lot of banter along the lines of "my is better than your ". It's good! Don't take it seriously, though.

BTW - my Octavia is better than any titchy little Fabia. The trim level is better than any vRS, and it's not a Van with Windows - so nyaah! nyaah! to the lot of you (did I miss any gratuitous insults, there?) ;)

Its an auto box !!

Which makes it slower than a Reliant Robin :P :D

Mike, you missed " it doesn't produce as much smog as a taxi", but you are forgiven :D

Just thinking. Bruntingthorpe in the wet would be fun for 4x4 v vRS !

I'd take you on in the wet; SDI v 4x4

A fair match I'm sure you'll agree :D

Just to give the 4x4 a fair run, we'll put the RS on slicks :D :P

Snow is good also

To be serious - on std bits (excluding remap) there isn't the confidence on track to 'outrun' a similarly powered vRS as we know about the difference in ride height and brakes.

I'm very happy for Jabba to implant their bits onto my car and compare against the vRS though, if you get the message ;)

How about my, non-RS, non-4x4, taxi? :D

How about my, non-RS, non-4x4, non-SDI taxi? :D
Eh?
