Mk1 but after just speaking to insurance company they wont insure me till im 22 im only 20, so once my no claims is through in March I will insure it with someone else.

Welcome :)

I'm 21, and found that most places wanted more for a Mk1 than a twice-as-valuable Mk2? Bizarre!

Hello and welcome, best of luck with the search.

Ben, print this off so if im not about you know what to look for...

In no particular order...

Bubbling on the alloys,

Timing belt AND water pump replaced after 4th year or 60,000...dont accept one thats only had the belt done.

Front anti roll bar bushes ok

Front anti roll bar plastic sleeve ok

Rear wheel bearings ok

Centre exhaust mount ok

Starter motor ok(alot of em screetch when cold starting this time of year, its due to the solenoid sticking and keeping the motor turning for a second after the engine has fired up)

think thats the key common failures on em, apart from the timing belt all are quick £30 quid fixes you can do on the drive with some axel stands and a small amount of mechanical prowess.
