Octavia CD Multichanger

Featured Replies

Hi All

My Dad has just picked up a lovely V reg (99) Octavia 1.8 20V estate. It has the factory Grundig head unit (with tape) but no multi-changer is fitted.

A couple of questions

1. Where does the multi-changer usualy go in the estate? (thought it might go in one of the side panel areas in the boot).

2. Did Skoda pre-wire for this or will we have to run a new cable if we fit a multi changer?

3. Will any VAG multi changer do the job or do we need to be specific, if so what make/model?

Many thanks, Jon

Hi,

Mine was in the left side (Viewing from the outside looking into the boot) cubby hole. Not sure on the other questions, although with regards to the wireing, I would imagine that the easiest way would be to see if its floating around, or pop the head unit out...

I think that the CD changer I have has the same part number as the one my friend has in his A4, but again, cant confirm if it would work or not...

Cheers

Rob

mine was also the left hand side of the boot, i would have thourght the wiring would be there, just pop the interior fabris out and have a look, its just a single wiring loom which plugs into the muilti-changer, i have my factory one for sale at the mo lol.

Had a quick poke around but cant see any redundant wiring anywhere.

What make is your factory unit Pimpmyskoda? How much?

As far as I am aware all the Octavia models have the CD Multi changer wires already there. You may find that the wires are tucked into some sort of foam padding behind the left side of the boot. Also the plug will not be the conventional type that you see on Alpine or Kenwood units, so it may not be apparent when you first see it. I am also aware that the Panasonic Changer is fitted on most VAG cars and there are plenty on EBay for sale quite cheap. Check this thread out.

hi ya , just looked at my octy (2000 tdi estate ) which is the same radio and tape no cd changer( grundig ms201a) , no wires at the header unit and non to be found back left hand of the boot, just for ref. there is no speakers or wires for them there eigher

looks like little more work to fit one ho well....:D

I might get my head ripped off for saying this but whatever you do do NOT buy a standard cd changer that comes from a Skoda Octavia.

Honestly mate there the worst cd changer i've ever come accross, it doesn't play allot of original cd's, copies etc etc., and as a result of this mine has become totally useless!:(

My mate also had the same experience in his Fabia VRS as his cd changer was the same as mine! he replaced it with a Kenwood system - head unit and cd changer.

Now this might just be coincidence but thats my experiences with the changer! The head unit is great but i'm in the process of replacing it for a simple single cd player.

As for the car it's wicked!!

Hope that helps!

Cheers

I have had no probem playing any type of cd other than MP3 's on my standard changer.

Admittedly they are not the most up to date changers and it depends on what Beaconjon dad wants a multi Changer to do.

If there is no standard wire loom for the Changer and you will also need to get the mounting bracket to fix the changer to the boot it might be more of a hassle so a aftermarket item may be easier to fit up. It then gives more options with other head units as well.

Both my Dad and myself had trouble with factory-fitted autochangers in our 2002 Octys, both ended up being replaced under warranty and were fine after the swap. Might just be changers of a certain year(s) that were dodgy. Still not the best changer in the world, though.

2002 Elegance estate, no problems with unit, though sometimes shows cartridge not loaded correctly after I change a CD. Comes back to normality after aminute. I have originals and 'others' in it and never faisl to play them.

Or better still, forget the changer altogether and fit a good quality Mp3 head unit:)

Just what I have done in mine. Just need to flog on the head unit and changer!!

My changer was forever coming up with "check magazine".... until I switched the head unit to the MFD... Changer has worked perfectly ever since.

hi all just going off subject a little but dose anyone know of some after market speakers that will fit in the rear of my estate where the skoda ones would fit :)
