Launch Photos of New Superb...

Unlikely to be any diesel engine bigger than the new 2.0CR 170hp as it need be Transverse mounted the old 2.5TDI was Longitudinally mounted... It's a platform thing look at the engines available throughout VAG for the PQ46 models Passat/PassatCC-EOS/etc... Also any PQ35 platforms engines would fit.

Yeah, I know what you're saying about be one step behind but that's why i was surprised they are using the 3.6 petrol. Seems a shame to build a 4 wheel drive for one engine that they won't sell many of!!!

Skisbp - Latest What Car review goes along with this. Nothing above 2.0 diesel.

Engine line-up

There will be six engines, ranging from a 1.4-litre 120bhp turbo to a 260bhp 3.6-litre V6 petrol.

Mainstays of the range, though, will be the 1.8-litre 160bhp turbo petrol and the three diesels – a 105bhp 1.9, and 140bhp and 170bhp 2.0-litre units.

Yeah might seem silly unless you consider, that the next Seat Toledo{Bolero} will likely get this 3.6 Haldex AWD system. Plus it's a sure thing in the Passat CC as the 3.6 4motion model. Also currently being produced in the Passat B6. They're likely to vary the power outputs from the current 280hp that the Passat B6 gets from it, to 260hp in the Superb II, while the Seat as the sportier offering will get either a 300or320hp version, counting on the Passat CC to have 300hp...

In addition you can count on the AWD being available with at least 1 if not 2 more engines. My money's on the 2.0CR 170hp with a lesser chance being the 1.8TfSI 160hp...

On a side note there's a decent chance the SuperbII's "TwinGate" rear cargo access arrangement will be used on the Seat Variant as well!!!

Then whats the point in any saloon?

To be bluntely honest its a snobbery thing, Executives and Bank managers like cars like BMW's and Merc because they come as saloons where as a hatch back is what a Rep would drive ie a Mondeo or a Vectra, Its only of late that car manufacturers have realised that Execs are now going for big powered 4x4 so they are now offering the Exec a big powered Estate of their favourates but still no hatch back!

What Skoda are doing here is trying to say its an Executive saloon car but with the versitillity of a Hatch back, basically covering their bases!

Spot on according to our well connected Czech member George Couser:

"4x4 version available for 1.8TSI, 2.0TDI-CR 125kW & 3.6FSI"

:orb_phew: Good to know I'm nearly as well connected as George...

The reason they won't do the 3.0tdi and will only do the 2.7tdi is because the skoda will always lag behind the other companies in the VAG group so that it is not as good. This I feel as always been evident in Skodas, in that they could make as good as VW Audi for the same money but purposefully make it slightly worse...

Grrrr, I don't know why people say this. The new Superb looks like it will be bigger, plusher and better equipped than the Passat and the original Fabia always had better reviews than the Polo.

Apart from the Fabia, all Skoda's products can't really be directly compared with any of VWs own cars though, which is a good thing, especially for VW ;)

that is the real issue, skoda constantly get better reviews than vw,all vw cars due to be released have been delayed in some cases some cars were re-designed or even cancelled altogether, they recognise they cannot sell inferior cars for a premium price when skoda cars are in the main better and more reliable, maybe that is why there is so much speculation regarding the furby vrs .vw are making things difficult for skoda, but the new superb shows what skoda can really do instead of a extended passat mk1,mk 2 is skodas own work

I stand by it, as you say the future Skoda might be better than the passat, but as it stands with the current range, I think this to be true, hence the new passat comes out... then the new skoda... and with the engine ranges being lower power variants or the slightly older version etc etc.

I don't see how you can't compare the skodas with the VWs, the current superb looks like a passat has similar bits etc, the smart money chooses the skoda as it is bigger but they are very similar cars as it stands... I think if you were to sum up a Superb to a non Skoda knowleable person you would be fair in saying, it is like a passat only bigger!!! :)

And a lot cheaper

Passat looks like it has exactly the same engine range as the new Superb, except the Passat gets the 2.0TFSI instead of the 3.6 FSI as the top engine.

The old Superb is the most VW like Skoda, so you definitely have a point there, but I was talking mostly about the Octavia (which is significantly bigger in boot space than a Golf) and the Roomster which has no direct VW cousin.

Don't confuse a local market offerings with what is available worldwide... For instance the US gets the 2.0T 200hp as their entry level & the 3.6 280hp as their uperscale. So it's really just a packaging thing. Keeping that in mind there's no guarantee that the UK will receive the 3.6 260hp Superb II when it's released!!!

Point very well made! Have to agree completely! Even though one could/may cross shop the Roomster/Pratik with the Caddy/Caddy-Life...

Sorry to dig this thread up again.

I know the boot space is going to be 565 litres but does anyone know what the total capacity will be with the seats down?
