Hi Guys,

Yes the car did have a Tracker and CAT 1 alarm/immobiler and a Disc lock on the steering wheel..... But they got the keys sad.gif

They broke into his house from the rear, ransacked it left £1000's worth of Tools but found the keys (which were very well hidden!) But on the way out of the house they also took a new 42" TV, DVD, Laptop, X-Box, Wii and all of his personal documents/details and a load of cash. The house is a right mess.

My mates absolutely devastated by this, the car was his pride and joy. And yes although its insured he won't get another one in fear of the same happening again.

The Tracker has been activated but until the iginition is switched on it'll do **** all unfortunetely. Why are they not battery backed up mad.gif

Cheers for keeping an eye out guys

nightmare i hate scum like this. They should all be shot

gutting... it will have been stolen for a "job" and will probably be parked somewhere, waiting to see if its tracker fitted...

don't they still have a 100% recovery record?

he should get it back, lets hope they haven't trashed it :(

Had this debate sooo many times now.

I never hide my keys, if they want the motor then take it and get the feck out of my house.

I'll worry about the car later when I know everyone is safe.

Didn't realise about the tracker only being active when it's driven - I assumed that they were active all the time.

Hope your mate gets some closure on it. Do the insurance company only write it off if it's found or can he claim within a certain time? Sadly, one of the reasons I got rid of mine was because of the rise in this sort of crime and I'd much rather they broke into the car and nicked it than broke into the house and threatened me/my family to get the keys. I guess it's a side effect of vehicles becoming much tougher to get into :(

Still, at least no-one's gonna be after the Mondeo!

Chris

I bet he's gutted, i'll keep an eye open.

im from rugby, and am in coventry once a week, ill keep an eye out, where about was it taken? rugby?

I had a mate have his scooby nicked 'to order' - they knew what they wanted, broke into the house, got the keys and drove it off. It was used as a getaway vehicle from a casino robbery in Derby if memory serves, then dumped....

Terrible news.

Not sure about this Tracker business, and the ignition needing to be on. Greater Manchester Police managed to find an E-Class Merc that had been stolen from my friend's Dad's house, with keys, parked up in a residential street across town. Again, probably leaving it 24hrs to see if it was tracked. But they got it back. Defeats the object to me if they can't access the Tracker system all the time, once it's been reported stolen.

Thinking about it, the BBC1 traffic cop show the other week featured a Vauxhall Meriva (with a tracker?!) parked up in a supermarket carpark in Salford. The undercover pair then waited for the thief to return to it, and nicked him.

Fingers crossed - looks a lovely example :(

Steve

P.S. Has your friend listed it on TWOC - Report Stolen Cars, Trailers, Vans, Bikes, Lorries ??

I think I saw an M3 being recovered thru Tracker whilst parked up on Street Wars last week.

My Octy was stolen in a similar way from the previous owner before me - broke into his house and used the car in a robbery later on - only in Liverpool would they steal a bright yellow car to remain inconspicuous

And to answer another Q - the previous owner got a full payout after 2 weeks, the car was recovered shortly afterwards but he kept the money.
