heads up, 5th Gear

Featured Replies

i know its the poor relation to Top Gear , but the new series of 5th Gear starts next Monday at 8pm

and i like to watch it , is that ok ? :P

we've been forced to make it socially acceptable to do/see other things which are inferior, so I suppose we'll let you off ;)

i dont mind it that much

Ehhh, no. Do the decent thing and watch re-runs of Top Gear on the satellite channels or on DVD.

Cheers for the heads up Ric. One thing's true, it can only improve

I wouldn't mind at all if they ditched the whole cafe studio crap, and just stitched together a programme of decent reviews, tests and a bit of Tiff driving sideways. Doesn't even have to be in a one hour format. Quality, not quantity please.

:iagree:

Although I thought the last series was a sliight improvment, they at least got rid of that twit Lovejoy.

Yes it's not too bad :)

Has Tiff come out? I can't remember :(

It is far superior to top gear, the three idiots have nothing to do with it......why don't they just test cars and stop going sideways that proves nothing

^^ What he said :D

i think they are going sideways in the same white Merc that Top Gear used in the M3 test , i wonder how long the tyres will last

i like both,and i love watching some sideways action:D

Mein Furhrer ! So, the rumours about you leaving on a jet plane were untrue !

Nick,

From what I've seen they seem to be constantly trying to keep-up with TG, and are therefore always a pale-imitation.

Why not try and produce something different (like a proper motoring programme for all the old farts who don't like TG and miss Quentin?)

Well,I think they continue to improve.

I'm sure they trawl these sort of sites to see what petrol heads want and they produced some good stuff

1.Great shootout with two great cars (must be a feat just to keep those two on the track in that weather!)

2.Ordinary car test

3.Bit of second hand stuff

4.Road test

5.Lairy stuff with the merc and the M5

Enjoyed it:thumbup: (might have been funny for TG to make an old car float but I preferred the above:))

There's a place for both sorts of car show.

I think 5th gear have realised that just copying top gear wasn't working so they've started to aim for something a bit more sensible which is fine. It's certainly better than it was a couple of years ago.

I think I actually enjoy 5th gear more.

Top gear has become too "cult" and they just end up spending stupid amounts of our money on silly features thinking they are really funny / cool.

I think they are trying to copy the "Top Gear" format which I thought made some articles boring and pointless as its a case of seen it before and copycat.

I quite liked the old TG format from the lates 80s to 90s when they did meaningful roadtests.

Comparing the 2CV to a C-Crosser - interesting but why use the electronic aids? Surely the Hill Descent would have kept the C-Crosser going a slow and steady pace down that hill so the 2CV would have thrashed it.

The Launch Control on the Lotus? pointless as on some cars you dont need to turn the engine off to activate it.

I like Bernie Ecclestones car collection though. That and the Laguna, Caddy Mondeo comparisons were the best bits I reckon.

It was great they liked the Caddy about as much as I did .....total heap of poo

Another good one last night.

Couple of warm hatches.Good bit for new Fabia.A lunatic in an Impreza *crash* 10 rolls* "are you alive Mr Co driver":D looney.

I'm sorry to the TG lovers but as someone said on another site. Its better than watching TG blowing up caravans (I'm still a big TG fan though)

Didn't watch yesterday's show, but did give the one last week a go. Can't say it really did anything for me and while the format has improved, it still can't seem to make its mind up whether it's a motoring show or an entertainment show and seems to fall short on both counts.

SWMBO also wants to kill Tom Ford!

Chris

The trick with TG is to forget its a car show and just think of it as entertainment then its really good. I always watch FG as well but always tape it so that its usually only about 30 mins of stuff thats any good. However it has been improving from the original 20 mins!

Used to be a fan but prefer the Used Car Roadshow now :)

was a reasonable show last night for a change, quite liked the BMW 135i msport

But who wants to know if it drifts better than a Porsche? Who is that aimed at? ***** with plenty of cash I guess.

Also Nissan Xtrail appeared to be better in nearly every respect apart from its badge, so they recommend the Freelander. Presumably due to snobishness for a Landrover:eek: Comedians
