Missus is very disappointed with her Fabia MOT fail.

Featured Replies

It is a 2000 1.4 Classic MPi.

Took it in for it's second ever MOT yesterday.

Got a phone call. Failed.

Needs.

CV boot (no biggy).

Front pads, again to be expected maybe.

Advice front discs, as they are heavily corroded on the inside edge and will rip all the new pads up if left (

Get in touch with Stuart Tunstall (using his Briskoda member details HERE

He works for Eurocarparts and does a special discount for SeatCupra.net members, and I'm sure he's offered similar on here.

Fabia parts will be the same as some vw parts that he'll be able to source MUCH cheaper. Option on cheaper still OEM spec parts usually too.

He's saved me a million quid (approx ;) ) on bits n bobs for my Leon. All stuff delivered to your door.

I even got my last set of tyres from him ~ cheaper than Mytyres.

Forgot to say - everything you mention (barring the boot) is "a consumable" (although pads give me indigestion) ~ you've just hit a load of consumables at the same time ~ not sure it's any "issue" with the car.

Have you had a look yourself - how much rust is there? If it is only the edge it is possible to scrap it away - did that on my Octy before its second MOT.

It could be a stuck/sticking pad if there is a lot of rust on the braking surface.

I would say there is a suspension/tracking problem if there is uneven tyre wear.

As you say - not go for a four year old car.

Re Stuart, yes he has offered it to us and I need to publish his details on the site...

...I do apologise for this.

Rethe mot failure, boots are the only I tem I see. The rest are as Mik says consumables and I hate it when they all go together.

Not too bad for a 5yr old car though. CV boots went on primeraGT after 2.5years.

Definately not bad... IIRC ffelans CVboot/joint lasted about 2 weeks!

What is a CV boot?

What is a CV boot?

Its the rubber cover round the CV joint on the driveshaft to the front wheel.

There is an inner and an outer one where the shaft meets the wheel and engine. If they don't get replaced then dirt gets into the joint and wrecks the drive shaft

Yeah, I guess looking back, it was disc wear that was the problem that bothered me most.

Didn't get chance to look at the discs. Took their word for it. They had been fair in the past on stuff they have looked at for me, and their prices were cheaper than main dealer prices.

Guess I'm just used to keeping bangers on the road. Shame there isn't a haynes for the Fabia.

does CV mean curriculum vitae or constant velocity

In this case, constant velocity.

I think ffelan got a hareball in his CV joint at Bruntingthorpe. ;)
