Are new Octavias ugly?

Featured Replies

No I don't think it's an ugly car. I do however think that the front grill is possibly slighty to big I can easily live with it though, especially in vRS spec.

The estate is one of the best looking in the market, but I would say that since I've bought one.....

Yes, there is definitely something about the front grill that doesn't quite look right to me. It's very hard to define, though.

This is NOT ugly.

When I see that I think "smart hatch which has a fair bit of poke", just as if I see a Golf GTI, Focus ST or anything else of its kind....

not ugly, but not stunning either. probably because it too derivative.

I think the estate looks better than the hatch even though i think an awful lot of it is a knock off of an old merc c-class estate.

to be generous you would say; ' classically styled'

I know where you are coming from. I pulled up behind one and thought it was a Skoda :o

Are they ugly? Well the estate version won the 2006 Red Dot vehicle design award - possibly the biggest German(!) yearly design competition - and the car is praised for it's "smooth transitions and clear contours"...

Having been a previous owner of alfas (145 and 156) I'm happy to be in a relatively reliable vRS (Do miss the looks, engine note and road handling of the alfas though!) I am proud to be a skoda owner and I find I do get people asking me what it is like to drive quite a lot.

I like cars to look and be both practical and functional. I detest form - arty design - over something practical. I couldn't bear to live with a Renault for instance. It's all arty farty over practicality. Look at the Citroen C5!

Yes I like the look of the Octavia estate very much. It's also very practical - no swoopy back end to "look good" but limit what you can get into the car.

Horses for courses. Beauty in the eye of the beholder etc.

I would agreed, beauty is in the eye and all that, I'm happy to be driving a car that keep my family safe but allows me to be bad when I'm on my own (vRS style!)

I think it looks "pleasant" but taste is so personal. e.g. I don't like the new Mondeo, or the new Civic, the Micra, the last few Primeras etc etc.

But I know several people who do like them.

My favourite current design is the Ferrari 360M coupe - but I'm a couple of quid short right now.

Skodas aren't the best looking cars and not the worst in my opinion. My vrs (fabia) has grown on me but I didn't choose it for it's looks.

Style is very subjective!

Looking purely at the body style, it's not ugly but not the best looking by a long way.

Take into account the functionality, build quality, perfromance, practicality, company tax advantages and price, then it's a little beauty.

My hatch is worth its looks for the boot alone. Been doing a bit of junk shifting again, and once again I am amazed at what goes into the thing when the seats are down and the shelf out.

If the body shape is a bit bulky looking at the back it is well worth it. I feel inclined to re-name it Peterbilt !

It's not as good looking as some, but it has clean lines and at least it's distinctive.

Ugly? - no.

Really good looking? - no.

It's not a bad looking car , but I don't see them and think "wow" , and appearance wasn't a major factor when I bought it.

totally agree. it's not a bad looking car, but it's not a good looking car either. even the vRS doesn't have anything that catches/attracts my eye - it's just a bit too..meh

:)

I've got the 4x4 estate in silver, and I wouldn't say that it's ugly.

Coming from an Audi A4 estate (or should I say Avant?...no I shouldn't!) the Octy isn't as nice as the previous car from some....OK a lot of angles.

There are a few, simple things that the designers could have done to make it a wee bit more of a looker: blacken the B and C pillers for example, make the standard front-fogs smaller and rounder like the vRS, darken the (non-reflector-working) mock-chrome plastics around the headlamp lenses to make them stand out more.

I do like the rear light cluster 'though!!!

when i ordered the sport i kept seeing the octy 2 tdi's that the taxi companies were using and thought i had made a huge mistake seeing how ugly the bumpers were. but the sport and vrs bumpers certainly add a lot of good looks to the car.
