advice on k04 upgrade on vRS

Featured Replies

ok here goes.

CAR AT MO:

cold air induction down in the front bumper.

blanked off original DV pipe and replaced with bailey atmospheric valve between intercooler and manifold.

all els is standard AUQ engine.

LOOKING AT DOING:

audi TT 225 injectors

K04 TT 225 turbo with air and oil pipes ready to bolt straight on (both done approx 6k mile £400 for both???)

can anyone plz help? i want to know if the above can be fitted and the car can be driven or does it need anything else doing ie remap, exhaust, intake pipes. ive been told the turbo will go directly on in place of the k03s(if that is what is on the car) is this true?

i am only looking for 230bhp, not much more, what will i need to do as dont have a large buget?

thanks

Not sure on what else you would need. But what is the maximum reliable bhp and torque that you could get with the K04 turbo? I imagine 260-270bhp with remap but just wondered if anyone had done this and what the results were.

Well i know one guy with this set up and he has about 250bhp. I also found pretty nice vid with K04 in octavia :

If your only looking at about 230bhp why not look at exhaust and custom remap. Surely that would be a cheaper option

Do u believe you really get 230bhp just from changing full exhaust + remap ?

you will need a down pipe as well for that and then need it remapping at least

I got 223bhp on the rollers from custom remap and green panel filter on my old vrs.

Claytarget_god allready has an uprated Air Filter so should get close to the 230bhp.. I guess it does depend on if you are talking Flywheel BHP or Wheel BHP

If you think 230bhp is genuinely attainable from a remap, exhaust and an air filter then you're going to be dissapointed!

The intake temps would be too high to make any decent power.

You need a fmic and an exhaust to make the best of the map.

Why the fascination with BHP? Its great for down the pub, but on the road, its Torque that gets you going!

If all i cared about was torque. Then i'd buy a diesel:). BHP has always been the basis for modding an engine. Some people measure imperial, i cant change i'm too old for that.

I agree.

I'm only going on my experience of owning and modding a vrs and what I gained by performing the mods.

I think getting close to 230bhp is attainable and the 4-5bhp you dont make are you really going to notice the difference? Which I why if you are only looking to take the engine to about 230bhp air filter/exhaust/remap is the way togo, if on the other hand you are looking for 250bhp-300bhp then doing the turbo mod would be the right place to start as you will need air filter/exhaust/FMIC and full remap when the turbo is upgraded.

I agree.

and this is from a guy who has 220bhp and 249lbft of TORQUE that is very quick indeed ;)

I wonder what my car is getting at the moment?

3" custom downpipe and cat (Turbo back)

Pro Alloy FMIC

ADB Induction kit

All on a standard map

at a guess, ~185bhp to ~190bhp, perhaps more, perhaps less.

with the FMIC you've got lower intake temps, which means theres more oxygen, but if you dont have enough fuel then you're going to get pre-ignition which is bad. If there is enough fuel then you're ok.

My advice would be stick on a K04 (and importantly manifold), but for the power you're looking for, you would be fine with the existing injectors. You'll also find that a high-flow down pipe, sports cat and exhaust will be just the ticket as well as probably better flowed turbo intake pipe (e.g. ADB Racing item).

In my opinion you would'nt need to replace the air box but a better filter element over standard may help you.

Finally with regards to intake temperature, modify the off-side wheel arch liner to help air flow through your intercooler and that should do you.

Like others above I am not convinced you'll see 230bhp out of a K03s and remap + exhaust, 215 to 220 might be the most (at the flywheel) you could expect. The beauty about sticking on a K04 over maxing the boost level on a K03s is that you'll keep intake temperatures down and your stock intercooler will be able to cope quite well.

The above is my own experience. If you later begin to look at 250-270bhp then bigger injectors, intercooler and more agressive mapping would be required.

I have similar to the above all on standard map.

I was getting mine remapped last month, but due to possible change of car i leaving for the time been.

I will be stripping all my bits to put it back to standard:(,only to install it all on a slightly newer car.:D

I think you will be better off selling the K04 and putting the money towards FMIC and Turbo back exhaust, that way you should see roughly what your after. If you want to put K04 on then i would be tempted to get standard airbox(including MAF) as well as manifold, downpipe,TIP etc... and then you will make 250 bhp+.

Don't forget you will need a new clutch as the standard will soon go with this about of torque(unless you limit it,which defeats the object).

Well I have not been driving the car hard anyway ;)

Custom mapping this Friday :D

Although my last custom map was good it was very low torque (238 BHP & 234LB/S)

I hope to have a few more torques this time!

Who's doing the map?PM if you want.

Impossible Performance

IP will do a good job of the map as will awesome.

Ref the turbo put the k04 on sod the injectors. but bear in mind a k04 off other VAG cars doesnt fit..... you need a k04 -001.

I'v noticed its quite easy to get hold of a K04 from and S3 or a TT. Whatis needed to make these fit then.
