You think that's bad, ask a Mini owner how the dealers treat them

Ahh the peasants of the beemer fraternity.Nearly got sucked into one myself with all the hype, but shook my head, woke up, and realised the error of my thoughts, discovered SKODA,the wise mans/womans choice, and have never been happier in the motoring dept. C.J.

LOL! I used to own a Mini before the Octy!

Mini sales people were ok but dealers were useless! Total wannabes!

I did get a Cooper S courtesy car one day and absolutely razzed the nuts off it and it only had 200 miles on the clock! Good luck to the present owner.

Never buying a BMW no matter how good they r!

Simillar experience at an Merc main dealer when I purchased a 2nd hand C Class (the car before the skud). Seemed to not want to talk, but when they realised I actually wanted to spend money every salesman was there. They even gave buyers a bottle of champagne when you pick up the car. Everytime the car was serviced by them I ended up with a nearly new E class as a courtesy car.

Same here with Audi dealerships.. When before I started my current job

I drove an old 1985 vintage Audi 90 quattro.. With this new job came a car

allowance and a requirement for a 3year or newer car... being a Audi fan ,, I went looking at an A4.. I drive in in my 90 quattro,, wearing jeans and a t-shirt... Nobody asked me if I was ok or needed any help, and when I enquired about a new A4 and a test drive it was almost if they couldnt be bothered... Until I mentioned car allowance .. then a test drive was offered

and various options were put forward..

Having said that I was in to look at the new A3 which I quite like and was offered a test drive and a coffee with a minute of entering the Audi showroom ( I was in the Octy thou... ) ..

cheers

Thinks me walking into the showroom with my work clobber on didn't do me any favours! Experience I have with the merc garage I deal with is a bit similar. You know...Oh we sell mercedes type attitude! Trying to get payment out of them too  :thumbdwn: wait and wait and wait.....Quite often have to threaten them with the small claims court! Oh but on saying that I'm sorry! I'm self employed so I'm therefore "a millionaire and **** flamin'Turpin without the mask!! "

Must say though that all the backroom staff treat me with respect, and have a good laugh with them, mechanics and valeters alike.

The valeters are the unsung heroes as far as I'm concerned. Most work very very hard, and quite often in difficult cramped and disgusting environment, and they are often talked to and treated like turds.Paid an absolute pitance too.

Mechanics also treated quite poorly too. Can't believe how little most are paid for what they do. i.e. our lives in there hands :thumbdwn: C.J.

I work on a business park where there is a dealer of just about every type except Skoda :(

BMW, Merc, Jag, Ford, Rover, Vaux, Honda and Volvo come to mind and I get into a fair few regularly to see what's what. Even with shirt and tie on, I still get the feeling I am not dripping enough gold or have driven up in the "right" car so I don't get fondled by the BMW and Merc sales people - Merc to a slightly lesser extent as I've gotten to know a few of them - a drive in an SLR wouldn't go amiss lol

The attitude of the worst of these to$$ers means that I absolutely look down on all Beemer drivers and laugh my bits off when the 318Ti boys and girls try to play :)

My two penneth.

Depends on the dealer

Northampton and Bedford BMW are crap, rude, unhelpful, poor deals

I bought mine from Bishops Stortford and it was one of the best car buying experiences I've had

[prepares for the usual comments on being a BMW owner blahdy blah :o ]

Interesting point about salary.

My old man has a bimmer (bike) and had a chat with the service manager when he went in.

Apparently, they have extreme difficulty finding mechanics. There's a shortage. Which means salary isn't too shabby:

Not at all Mobtob! I know a couple of really pleasant BM drivers. It's just that the marque does seem to attract it's :rubchin: .....more than fair share of :rubchin: ..........oh I don't know....*******! Yeah that'll do! :D Anyone who's a BRISKODIAN can't be put into that particular bmw catergory though, otherwise you wouldn't be in here would you? :P C.J.

Guy who owns the company I used to work for had a merc for over 10 years, company accountant finally persuaded him to buy a new one, so he goes to main merc dealers, walks in and looks at cars, asks salesman how much is this one... too much for you grandad replies salesman.... he leaves dealers then phones em from work.....exit one salesman...oh...they guy I used to work for...lets just say he is SERIOUSLY rich....he owns the company that makes T-cut and Carplan stuff etc

During my 4 yrs with a BMW, I always found the dealers I used pretty damn good, for both service and faults / repairs. Expensive though.

Had plenty of other makes over the years - Rovers and Fords mainly. Always found those dealers to be absolutely useless without exception. 'Mechanics' always seemed to be 16 yrs of age and on a bonus for each car thru the workshop regardless of quality of work.

I remember a suspension knock on a Ford and the 'mechanic' telling me "We don't know what it is so we'll just keep replacing bits till it stops" !!! Another great memory after a service on a Rover was petrol spraying 3 feet into the air from a fuel line under the bonnet after the fuel filter was replaced. How could anyone miss that!?!?!

These are the sort of things that led me to Skoda. JDPower results shouldn't lie.

We'll see in time.....

I was looking at second hand M3s about the same time I was looking at the Octavia. Wonderful, wonderful car, but I just couldn't bring myself to be a BMW owner.

I was in Nottingham with a friend of mine and while we were there, we drove past the Porsche dealer. We couldn't resist stopping and going in. We were in jeans, but fairly smart jeans. We weren't offered a test drive, but we were offered coffee and were treated with a great deal of respect by the staff. If I had 60-70K burning a hole, I know which marque I'd be going for ;)

Maybe due to the fact that Porsches are driven mostly by enthusiasts who are fortunate to be able to afford them, whereas BMW's are mostly driven by sales reps, drug-dealers and general tosspots who think the clothes they wear and the car they drive says everything about the type of person they are.

Which is true, it usually tells me they're a total git ;)

Before buying the fabia I did the rounds of the local dealers. Didn't even bother with BMW, but did look in on the Honda dealer next door. Black jeans, shirt & tie and stubble == totally ignored. All the salesmen were instantly more interested in their lovely shiny showroom...

(And if the guys in the Seat dealership hadn't been *******, I'd probably be driving a bizzy now...) :D

Oddly enough, I had a hard time saying "no" to the local Seat dealership. They were just such nice people and were so persuasive - they told me the Leon Cupra "suited my image better than the Skoda. It's a grandad car, innit?"

I popped back in about 8 months ago for a nosey and narrowly avoided buying their Leon Cupra R.

Ahhh. The local seat guys told me Skodas were **** heaps that would fall apart, whereas Seats were made properly and were much better!

Reminds me of Jon, he was a very well paid IT cntractor of many years. Over 6' and bald. The sort you would cross the street for, yet lovely really. Went to local Porsche dealer to look at something. Dressed in scrappy jeans and t-shirt was ignored and treated like poo when asking over a very special car. Was a directors limited bits and bobs....so he turned to one of the other salesmen and got his cheque book out...one sold porsche, one serioulsy shocked saleman with no comission and another with loads :D

Perhaps he should not of brought it atall...but that was Jon all over :D

Lucky to be with us, while on holiday in florida he had a gun held to him by a oik, Jon being Jon ignored then disabled thinking it was a fake...nope real, and loaded...got himself on the front cover of the newspaper as tourist stands up to crime type story...although got a serious telling of from the officers. He got drunk that night...
