Engine's annoyed

Featured Replies

Was driving to my girlfriends today... and my car has just developed a mental attitude when idling.

When I'm sitting at the lights the engine keeps reving up to 2000 revs and dropping back down... and won't idle at 750 for more than a few seconds.

Just got home now and when I've switched it off - the whole engine shakes violently before it stops, needless to say it's disconcerting

Anybody got any ideas... I've tried calling revo and they're not there!

I haven't even been driving quick :(

It doesn't specifically sound like a REVO problem.

Do you have access to VAG-COM and or a Select switch?

I've got a select switch... I've switched back to the standard map but it's still the same :(

The car was only remapped last Tuesday.

I'm seriously thinking of switching her back to standard and getting my money back... she was running fine until I had the software installed and she's been a little ropey (pulsing at idle speed) since I got it - didn't think anything of it.

Theres an underlying fault Paul its not the maps fault ;)

I just hope it's not an expensive underlying fault tom... it sounds pretty expensive to me :(

Welcome to mapped vRS ownership!

Your problem doesn't sound too good though. Best bet would be to put it back to standard and take it back to the dealership.

Hmm - I must admit I wouldn't think it was a map problem as they are generic files which will most probably have been used on similar cars.

I'd like to see a diagnostic scan and see if anything shows.

Perhaps a meet with Tony and see if he can help you?

If it was a code-related issue, it would be there a minute after the flash.

Get the car to a vag-com to see what faults it has.

It sounds like a pcv failure... (fast, cheap, easy to replace & under warranty)

No error/warning lights - car starts up fine and once driving; aside from the occasional surge it's fine.

Also noticed it's developed a whooshing noise when accelerating... and when it's idling you can definitely hear a leak from somewhere!

Exhaust seems to be popping a lot and as mentioned before the nasty shudder from the engine is somewhat disconcerting.

Whats a PCV when it's at home? (Aside from the Public Carrying Vehicle Sense) as if it's anything to do with the Divertor Valve I'll be having "another" word with Awesome GTi

It's easy to 'panic' in situations like this and blame the remap but in this case I don't think it is. There are a few weak components on the TFSI engine one of which is the DV and the other is as mentioned the PCV although there have only been a few cases in the UK and more in the US. Take a look at some of the 'Stickies' in the Octavia II forum where there is more useful information.

I'm not panicking... yet!

Revo do offer a 30 day money back guarantee though... or so I've heard, and if it turns into a serious problem them I may just have to avail myself of the privilege. :(

How do you go about it?

As long as you are thinking "revo", you will not find an easy way out of your problem.

You did a remap and something broke up.

It would had broken anyway...

I don't mind meeting you somewhere and running a VAG-COM for you Paul...

You misunderstand guys... I'm not thinking Revo, I'm thinking "this is gonna get expensive" :(

Seeing as all my cash is tied up in my software, then I might have to get money back to pay for the repairs - I suppose the rest of you have had your cars mapped without any problems :(

Started up again this morning... almost dying at idle and a lovely smell of petrol mixed in for good measure.

Just hope I can drive it when I take it to be fixed... once it's moving it seems ok!

Isn't the car under warranty?

Just turn the car in to revo stock mode and get to your local dealer to fix it.

Take notice that a pcv is not more than 30 euro.

AWWWWWEESOMMMMEEE!!!

Well my car has now been fixed... the numpty that installed my Forge DV at Awesome GTi decided that it didn't need a retaining clip on both ends of the Valve, causing it to blow off!

Still, it didn't cost me anything so thank heaven for small favours! :o

Cheers for the feedback everybody.

Edit: Going to move this thread as it relates more to the Octavia MkII than a REVO issue.

Car's all fine now... my brother has "tested" it while I've been at work.

Cheers again for the feedback everybody... and thanks for the offer Wardy

Really pleased its fixed fine!

Is it fair to say you are now pleased with the REVO software?

Er... no, I'm still looking at getting a refund :o

I'm worried that the damage may have been done... if you saw how violently the engine shook when it was switched off, you would have winced.

I do stand corrected and say the software was not to blame... It makes me shudder how much damage could have been caused though :(

But that was NOT the software that was the cause of your problems, you'd have experienced that with or without it?

I've got the jitters :o

Will wacking the Carbonio back on and switching her back to performance map cause more problems... probably not, but my bottle's gone! :o
