Paintless Dent Removal

Thing is Geoff, I know how much I love my car...and probably he his and you yours. Its a similar thing in peoples kitchens..usually a new fitted affair.

People stand over you, watching you, scared witless you are going to cause damage, or not get something perfect..which I do :D .

Ok, a car isnt a kitchen but its a personal possesion that cost money.

My point is, the pressure on the person carrying out the work is immense, and anyone who has never encountered or has knowledge of the service industry on a face to face basis never will. All they see is the bill...and the comment.."that looks like the job to be in".

People stand over you' date=' watching you[/quote']

I had this recently, with a so-called "engineer" at the prison.

Unfortunately for him he picked the wrong person to stand over, and i downed tools and sat down.

This mystified him somewhat and he asked what the problem was...

I told him in rather colourful language that no-one stands over me when i'm working, he replied that he was "only doing his job"..

He was then told to **** off and do it somewhere else then :D

He's avoided me since....

Personally, when i have someone working at the house, or on the car, i let them get on with it, as i hate being watched myself.

However i will kick up one hell of a stink if the finished job is not up to scratch.

I have to say that normally I dont mind people watching..after doing this game for 22 years they dont bother me, as long as they dont start picking.

As for when having stuff done at home..yes I ,m like you and let them get on with it, but always offer a tea or coffee before they start. From the owners point of view the engineer will be happier, calmer and more relaxed with a cup of something to refresh with..leading to probably a better job and communication

Finally, if something of mine is hasnt been done properly for whatever reason boy do I get serious and forceful.

Thank goodness some of us aren't such sensitive blossoms! Eg, just imagine what the reaction would be if the Captain of the QE2 asked all the passengers to shut their eyes every time he docked the liner...

He doesnt, the harbour pilot does ..doesnt he??

Anyway, its something that you need to expierience to be able to fully appreciate.

Excuse me Denis?

My days of being stood over while i worked ended when i completed my apprenticeship.

I've been responsible for plenty of large jobs and would never stand over someone i knew to be sufficiently qualified & experienced to do his job, therefore i expect the same treatment. :)

....put it in the drink?? ;)

 Very funny, Andy! As a pilot who flew twin and multi-crew aircraft, it was a fact of life that my flying (ie the job I was doing in and with the aircraft) was constantly under close scrutiny. I enjoy watching skilled people at work, but clearly some don't like being watched... :(

My wife is a teacher in a secondary school and she too is under close scrutiny by her students all the time she is teaching them.

PS Now back to paintless dent removal...

I have no problem with it m8..now.

However would you be of the same opinion with Mrs Jones asking you umpteen questions about what this or that does, dont scratch or tear her lovely (not glued down, cheap n nasty) floor vinyl, putting up with Timothy going trying to go through your tool box or getting under your feet and still working with 240v or sharp edges around?

I,d wager not m8.

No, I wouldn't want either of those in the cockpit with me. :(
