There was a 2nd hand one floating round a few weeks ago

The KKK standard turbos come in at around the 900 quid mark

If your after a replacement and your out of warrenty, go for the stronger garrett one. Either the gt1749va if your after no power increase or the gt1749vb if your after a marginal power increase (need fmic and remap with that one)

Or if your power hungry find a standard gt1749va or vb and send it off to TD who will rebuild it to either stage 1 or stage 2 hybrid.

My standard KKK will be available very soon, its only done 12k and its in exellent condition

Hmmm, more than I thought, what about a reconditioned one?

Only a local garage doing the work as I know the chap very well.

Its out of warranty alright, by about 5 months, just had the cambelt done too so I would have thought it should go more than 60k....??

Is this just a crappy turbo for the engine and there are loads of problems with them?

Ben

I'm sure there's a standard one for sale. Think its £175

Loads and loads of problems with the kkk. My local dealer has them queuing up. Even asked me if i wanted a job replacing them

I can speak for experiance, my car had a new one at 12k

then another at 26k. I am solving the problem with a nice new Garrett Turbo dynamics hybrid which hopefully will be abit stronger

Still got mine for sale, 175 quid as mentioned for pickup from Abingdon/Oxford area or Bracknell, postage is possible but that would be extra. 3k done with it on.

Drop me a PM if you're interested :)

did they ever come with a different turbo to the kkk?

I've heard of so many going recently.... mine did 80k, of learner driving (i.e. getting stalled when hot ect, not good for the turbo) I never had to top up with oil, and it was still going as if new, when i got rid, no probs with the turbo at all (and I never waited for it to warm up before booting it, but I did always let it "run down" before turning it off) ........ mine was an '05.......

I believe the very early ones came with a Garrett, but I could well be wrong...

Chris

May well be worth speaking to Allard to see if they can exchange your damaged turbo for a new one. Will be cheaper than getting a new KKK from a dealer and you'll have the option fo getting a Garrett turbo too.

My KKK turbo went pop a few months ago and Allard exchanged it for a Garrett turbo off a PD150 engine. They didn't give me a huge amount for my old turbo but it did make buying the new turbo that little bit cheaper.

EDIT: Dealers want around £900 for the KKK turbo alone, and around £1500 for the turbo + fitting. You can get the KKK turbo for around £500-600 from aftermarket tuners. A Garrett turbo that is stronger is only a little bit more.

When I see how much turbo's cost I wish I did not my my 1.9TDI estate, I don't think I will buy a car with a turbo again.

Thats a stupid way to think.

Then buy an sdi, have no power and a weak gearbox. :P

My warranty runs out in November so I am saving like mad to cover the cost of new turbo, clutch etc etc.

It's not going to be done at a dealers, my local garage is excellent on parts/labour.

May ask them about getting a Garrett one instead.....

It won't be coming from Skoda so hopefully not £900??

Incedentally, how much would a new intercooler be? I'm convinced mine has a hole in it and I may change it myself. I have checked all of the pipes and they are all secure, but it's hissing loads now from that area.

Suppose I could look elsewhere than Skoda, anybody got any ideas for places/websites to look on? Unless somebody has a spare they don't want for a good price :D

**** happens really, just one of them things....

You could always extend the warranty?

Chris

Is it good value for money and what is covered?. Rather go with Skoda warranty and not any other.

Just out of interest do the KKK turbo's go for any particular reason?

as still have a KKK on my fabia VRS and have had it mapped and has done just over 50 thousand miles on an 04 plate is mine deemed to go soon?

Hope not touch wood!

Mine has just had the cambelt done and now has 61,500 miles.

Ho Hum....

I think it depends what you opt for. Aftermarket ones are not all bad - Warranty Directs is very comprehensive you can chose to have work carried out at a main dealer.

You had any quotes yet or have you just taken it back to Skoda?

Ben

I'm searching round at the moment Ben. It's not going anywhere near Skoda, that much is certain :)

I've been searching round for an upgrade for sometime anyway, so I'm fairly upto speed on what I need/want and what it'll cost. The fact the std turbo has failed now is just damned inconvenient; was at least bargaining on it making it to upgrade stage!
