Skoda Car Phone Kit

Featured Replies

Have just orderd a new Octavia 1.9TDi Manual with the Columbus Sat Nav and full luxury pack in ivory with Solid red paint exterior.

I have some questions about the Skoda phone kit P/N ZGB1Z2060002:

1. Is it any good? Have seen a year old post that suggests it is poor

2. Does it fully integreate with the columbus sat nav showing caller id etc..?

3. Does it require the use of skoda dealer computer to "program" it into the sat nav system, and therefore can it be fitted by a third party fitter?

Any comments much appreciated.

if you are talking about the OEM Bluetooth kit, it isn;t an option for new vehicles in the UK, but you can have it fitted after you take delivery of the car

It does fully integrate with the columbus, but you will need multi-func steering wheel if you want to do voice dialing (can be hooked up using vag-com to the mute button)

Speak to VRStu about a proper bluetooth kit.

AND

Yes ,the car will need to be set up with VAG-COM so that it knows it is installed.

I spoke to the salesman at my local dealers this week, and the Bluetooth kit is being brought in for UK spec cars.

I bought an OEM kit from VRStu last year and have yet to get a new car, so I might have one for sale if I can get one factory fitted when I finally get a car ordered.

I think the BT kit your dealers are reffering to will be the Blue Connect that has just been launched.

Just seen the new blue connect kit shown on the SKODA website

Is this blue connect kit the same as the kit you have in your car? does your kit charge the phone?

Where does the blue connect kit fit in the car (i.e. the buttons/speaker/mic as shown in the picture)?and does the blue connect kit charge the phone?

By using VAG-COM to install the bt kit, does this create isues with the warranty as a non-approved person has connected to the cars' computer?

So the question is, which system is better?

The BlueConnect isn't going to do anything on Maxidot nor the Columbus. It won't utilise the MFSW if fitted and they hack out the sunglasses holder to fit it.

I would love the VRStu OEM Bluetooth kit, but i wouldnt trust myself to install it to be honest. Im thinking of buying a Tom Tom with Bluetooth to kill two birds with one stone

If you don't fancy an OEM BT install yourself I know that Simpsons in Preston can arrange it, they fitted mine. Depends on when you're next visiting GB I guess.... You might be able to get it fitted in EIRE though as it's outwith Skoda UKs short sighted domain?

My guess is the OEM by miles. Integrates with the Maxidot display (which is the only pre-requisite to being able to use the OEM kit) with Caller ID, phonebook, last calls, missed calls, etc (subject to phone model) all visible in the instrument cluster and operated by the right hand stalk. Fantastic mic quality and sound routed through the stereo speakers so very neat and tidy too (to look at the cabin you wouldn't know it was fitted).

Also can work with MFSW or Sat-nav if you have it.

Or........

Take your eyes off the road to press the button in the roof (unless you're as practised as this girl)

And hope that these pokey little speakers are up to the job at Motorway speeds (Hmmmm....)

I've had a raft of phone kits over the years and the OEM BT kit has been the best by miles (it was also the most expensive by miles too mind!) and if you're serious about legally and safely using a phone whilst driving it's the one to go for.

I wonder why, after finally deciding to offer Bluetooth, Skoda UK have decided to offer the Blueconnect thing as the BT kit rather than the OEM one that Skoda/VAG in general offer on mainland Europe. Hardly keeping up with the Jones when you look at the excellent BT systems people like Fiat and Ford are offering on all their cars. Are they scared their dealers will make a hash of fitting it or something?

Niall

Out of interest, are Simpsons the only UK dealers who are willing to fit the OEM bluetooth?

No idea! Saw then get a mention on here for being able to fit it and Preston was just off the M6 on my way home after picking up the car!

Niall

I am sure many dealers will attempt it for you and to be honest it isn't at all difficult however I know Simpsons have done them before.

If you are visiting the south then I can help you out.

My dealer may be interested, they asked me to take mine in once I had fitted it to have a look. Havnt got round to it yet though, will keep you posted.

Steve

its not too hard to fit and isnt as dawnting as the instructions sound, i actually found most of it very theroputic till i snapped a wire near the end, but managed to make a longer wire to replace it with and it still works to this day no problems. i would recommend for the first time to take your time and have around 6 hours spare to do it. Once you done one you could have it down to a couple of hours easily.

Crikey mate 6 hours you got hands or flippers on the end of your arms:rofl:

Just did what stu said, take my time and not rush it, plus the car was only a couple months old so didnt want to break anything. I must admit i could have done it easily in half the time if i had been pushed.
