Modifications & Warranties

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Just wondering what kind of performance related modifications can you go ahead with, without voiding the Skoda warranty? For instance, chipping is out, but what about RARBs? Or exhausts? Or springs etc?

I intend on picking up the car tomorrow with any luck! Just thinking about all the bits I can do to it in the short term.

:D

Cheers!

Speak to your dealer, but most will say that basically... what you modify isn't covered, and if anything you modify causes the downfall of something else, then that's not covered either.

For example, you replace the springs so obviously the springs aren't covered, however the shocks wouldn't either (due to them having non-standard length springs fitted)

Hope this makes sense!

From personal experience: It depends entirely on the dealer. Some will want you to continue to use their services, now and in the future. So, they'll be more inclined to overlook mods. Others, usually the multi nationals might not give a jot about you, now, or in the future. You know the sort I'm referring to: you report, within the warranty period, issues such as: fuzzy seats; bubbling alloys and the answer they trot out is: "wear and tear, not covered". Not interested. If your dealer is the latter, then move elsewhere.

Thanks everyone. The warranty will be a tenuous one for the next year until it expires. The car is from Northern Ireland and has a 3 year warranty, but Skoda Ireland only offer 2 years on their range. So I'll be popping across the border to get anything checked out or repaired. With that in mind, I'll stick to standard for the remainder of the warranty. By then my grin might have faded a little and mods will restore it to its full glory.

Again, thanks for the advice!

The warranty is quite clear and defined by Skoda.

Non standard parts will not be covered and any damage caused by the fitting of those non standard parts is not covered,

Cheers Stu, thats perfectly clear!

That's all very well. But, don't take everything as read. Ask the dealer what their views are as regards mods and warranty. After all, they are at the interface between you and Skoda.

I agree, but do remember that dealers and staff in dealers come and go. The dealer I bought mine from wanted me to have a tonne of work done straight away to use it in photos for their promotions and told me warranty would not be an issue, They later closed down. Fortunatley my current dealer was very friendly during my warranty period but I know of others who have refused a window motor because the car was highly modified.
