Mobile Phone Roaming Question

Featured Replies

Hullo,

Myself and my missus are on 02 and I am about to scoot off to Spain for a few weeks with work (it's not gonna be that good i promise!)

If I pay £5 as a Spain bolt on I can receive incoming calls for free. My missus gets unlimited free O2 to O2 calls so in theory it should not cost her a penny to call me as it is stil an engilish O2 number she is ringing. Is this correct or am I talking ruhbarb??

Cheers

Complete rubbish. Calling an O2 uk phone from another one in spain, your call we be routed via the UK. You both pay for the call, one to make it and one to recieve.

it can work out cheaper to buy a couple of cheap payg phones in spain and use those. its also cheaper to use a spanish payg phone to phone the UK and can work out cheaper than a payphone.

It's me who is going away not her  So my missus will still be in the UK.

Not sure then, in theory it should be free.

That's what I was thinking too. I asked at O2 and it confused the guy in the shop

It should be free... as if you call someone from the uk who has a uk number and they happen to be abroad then it doesn't cost you any extra it only costs the person you are calling to recieve the call... but as you said if you are getting free incoming calls then it shouldn't cost a penny and well worth the £5!!

Yeah that's what I thought. It's been a long old time since I used my mobile abroad so was not too sure if this was the case.

Thats right you call a UK number so pay the same and the person who is roaming pays the rest of the charge so the £5 bolt on will be a bargin if your going to use it alot as its not as expensive as it used to be to receive calls abroad
