Top 5 mods for a Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

RB320, Do you like modding cars or do you just prefair them out the mox? Not trying to be funny just an honest question as your posts are coming across as your anti modding/customising which is fine each to their own.

"Boy racer comment :)" The other month I happened to have a straightline sprint (rolling start) again a classic scooby wrx (not turbo) not upto silly speeds but at the end of it the guy in the classic was very impressed/shocked with the little skoda. Comments being "what engine" and "that ****ing fast that". Personally think his classic must of seen better days or moddered cars are coming on abit. Anyone remeber evo with the fiesta ST185 against a Delta round a track?

im not at all anti modding to be honest been there done it got the t shirt,im just putting it across as why spend a shed load of cash modding basically an everyday run of the mill car and dont get me wrong its good at what it designed for, good fuel economy, performance i wouldnt say dealer servicing costs are cheap to be honest because it cost me same to service the scooby and as for modding i probably will have the fab remapped(runs out steam too quick for me)but like you said yourself go so far modding your vrs but dont go spending silly money because at the end of the day you can only be as quick and as fast as the gearing ratio's in the box.

I understand what your saying and too a point agree but each to there own. People put hayabusa engines in the back of mini's. Why? To make if bloody quick.

To be honest if I could afford (to wast money) I spent **** loads on the furby :)

you can only be as quick and as fast as the gearing ratio's in the box.

Thats about 160 then

Thats about 160 then

we can all dream:)

Back on track.

Just done a wee mod tonight and really improves the driveablitiy and fun / sportiness of the vRS and its free.....

The short shifter mod from Basil, have a look in the technical guides section. Unbelievable improvement

^^ i`v been thinkin about doing this since i read it a few days ago. Is it worth it? I deffo looks a bit nicer IMO

Yeah its worth it, easy peasy

Gear changes seem much swifter and makes the car seem more sportier, i love it

Because no one expects a diesel skoda to be as quick as they are/can be. Ok I see you're argument but everyone knows an RB320's gonna be quick, and I just think that takes the fun out of it. For example my mate has a 380bhp Pulsar GTiR, it is rediculously fast and eats just about anything (inc. piston rings and spark plugs:rofl:), but everyone know's it's stupid fast and no one will race him/challenge him and he's selling it because it's just no fun anymore. Tell everyone you're Scoob can keep up with this that and the next thing no one's REEALLY interested, but tell them you're TDi Skoda keeps up with Scoobs...that's a differant conversation! and TBH the running costs for all these high power jap motors (Subaru's, Evo's, Skylines, Pulsars) is horrendous. The costs for running a GRP9 Insurance, Low tax band, diesel burner outweigh the the 'out the box' power you could buy for the same money. As well as the BIG CHEESER factor!:D

...and relax!

I'm not sure if I can bare to start lobbing off bit's of my gearstick...I'll ponder on it. However for the mods I'd recommend getting the suspension and brakes sorted, then look for more power. A RARB and set of spring and 312mm brake upgrade come to surprisingly little considering the MAHOOSIVE differances they make to the car. £450 for the lot isn't a lot of coin for all that TBH!

thread resurection:D

i'm bored:rofl:

Ive grown up since this thread.

the fabia cant be made into a supercar, But i sure do miss mine :(

tis a strange phenomenon..with my fabia i know for a fact i could spend soooo much money on it and it'll only be a "quick" car , whereas with the same money i could by something stupid fast out of the box.....but still i get bored, then add another small bit..another small bit and then all of a sudden oops i've spent loads!

i swear modifying and improving is such an addiction!!! or rather im addicted to the christmas day feeling when you've put the tinyest thing on the car!

I did rather well with the cost of the mods on my Scooby.....

ScoobyNet - corradoboy's 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX

Modifications:

.

Appearance....

Genuine Subaru STi high level spoiler FREE of a mate (£900 from Subaru)

MRO front grille (colour coded) £50

Subaru lower mesh grille £30 off a mate (rrp £125)

Full detango with LED indicators DIY with about £20 of parts

Prodrive Kaylan Rally flaps in blue FREE off a mate (£200+ from Subaru)[/b]

Colour coded sills £100

Discrete "Prodrive" below each side repeator FREE

Anthracite STi alloys £400 inc RE070 tires (£1200+ from Subaru) (Actually' date=' I bought 3x sets of these wheels and tires for £400 each and sold 2x sets on for £550, making mine £100  )

Handling mods....

AST coilovers (12 position damp and height adjustable) [b']£100 from a mate (£1000rrp)[/b]

Whiteline 22mm adjustable rear ARB £60 (makes the Jabba thing ridiculously expensive)

Whiteline solid (steel) rear droplinks £30

Front upper STi strut brace £30 2nd hand

Goodridge stainless steel braided brake lines £30

Mintex 1155 pads £65

Ferodo DOT5.1 fluid £10

Bridgestone RE070 tyres (see above)

Performance mods....

PPP (Prodrive Performance Pack) 265ps (261.5bhp+) 0-62 4.8s, 155mph Already on car

JR Racing panel filter £40

Ram-air scoop and resonator removed (runs cooler, allows earlier spool up, makes induction & dump valve audible) DIY FREE

The car was £16,400 and recovered £11,000 on resale after 3 hard driven but immensely exciting, satisfying and exhilarating years. Nt allowing for fuel, tax, insurance and basic maintenance I don't regret a penny of it as it was an amazing experience to own such a devastatingly fast car.

I'm just on the start on the road of mods to my newly aquired VRS.

Already got:-

Upgraded headunit to double din with USB and Ipod cable - £140

Seat Ibiza Sport front brace - resprayed Bodycolour and ready to fit - £37!!! inc repaint!

Whiteline rear ARB - £100

17" TT comps - just polishing - £200 + £25 repair

Still to do:-

new clutch - slipping?? (not sure what to do yet - maybe just an upgraded coverplate and organic clutch. DMF is fine at the moment!)

new tyres - Falken 912's @ £40ea

coilovers - £240

Cupra front spoiler - £39

remap - £350-£400 (maybe upto 160bhp or so)

I'm really enjoying my VRS - but my Polo 16v handles better than it at the moment - all the new parts are sitting in my garage awaiting time on the ramps!

my fabia stands me at over 18kish and i don't regret a single penny:D and there is much more to come this year, giant pro alloy fmic, huge hybrid, water meth, race injectors and probably more wheels to add to my allready substantial collection:D

the fabia as standard handles like a boat!!! the first priority should be getting the suspension sorted

that it does lol

i love the low down torque, the lower tax, the far better mpg, but i do wish it handled like my Clio did lol

I doubt you'd get it to the same level of handling as a clio, let alone a clio with tweaked suspension ;)

The heavy lump up front sure does not help on that front, but it is absolutely worth sorting the handling as much as possible :)

A few basics like Jabba rear ARB, Koni FSDs with some Eibach springs or coilovers if you prefer, TT brakes, all help :)

Power wise, if you get the uprated clutch then a remap to 160bhp IMHO is an unneeded restriction, may as well push it higher (with a hybrid ;))

  • 6 months later...

im with markyvrs, i bit of extra power isn't going to kill the original set up of the car plus a slightly modified car is a lot better than one that's had altered brakes, suspension and wheels in my opinion, subtly modified vrs all the way :) just my opinion

Lol, This thread is hilarious.

Polo, you can get a stage 1 remap from p-torque for £265 including dyno's before and after. running between 160 and 175bhp, depending on pre-mods.

Handling and power are all great, but modding also allows you to have something a bit different to everyone else. :) Each to there own, and I guess your car shows a little of who you are.

Those driving a standard vRS will be the most 'individual'

The lowered, remapped, colour coded/black front grille surround and cupra splitters added to their cars are less about being individual and more about one leading and the rest following on behind

From what I have read on the forum the best most cost effective and usefull mods withut spending ££££s are:-

1. 312mm brakes with braided hoses and some decent fast road pads- you can never have too much stopping power, aids safety afterall

2. Jabba Rear ARB - apparently the understeer is much reduced with this mod

3. PD160 with Green filter (getting the airflow right before the remap)

4. Milltek downpipe back system (if stock system goes replace, preparing car for step 5, getting the cat removed to reduce backpressure will help the increased flow of gases after the remap

5. Live Remap - 130bhp isnt exactly earth shattering but when the brakes, suspension and engine breathing mods are done then you u have power to match

I would say those mods are the best starting point. I think building an Uber Furby vRS with FMICs, bigger turbos, internal engine work, bigger injectors etc is a waste of money for the average owner but I dont see anything wrong in modifying a car after a standard OE part has failed, eg, stock bushes go so replace with poly ones, that way you wont have to replace them again any time soon and the handling will be better (the ride wont be though)

I find most of the above posts arguing about spending money on tuning the vRS when you could go and by a scoobapoo or "better" car quite tiresome. If that was the case then why the hell post on Briskoda, and indeed why does Briskoda exist if all the Skoda owners just buy a Skoda and then say, well, My Skoda isnt the fastest or greatest thing on 4 wheels so Il buy a Subaru or Mitsubishi or whatever piece of tin that captures the masses "imagination". The fact is for whatever reason people have bought vRS's and modified them by the thousands now which is why theyp post on here, to share with like minded souls. Its about passion for the car, for the marque and most of all enjoying the car and the mods you have undertaken.

..Ergo, does it really matter what it costs as long as everyone is happy? Its thier car, thier time and thier money and maybe not everyone wants to drive around in a petrol guzzling, high insurance, high bling factor ricer car - afterall, the reason most of us own a Fabia vRS is because they are cheap to buy, cheap to run, cheap to mod etc etc and just happen to be understated street sleepers that are a little bit more interesting than the mainstream tin cans that joe public drive.

The vRS afterall fills a niche in the Diesel hot hatch market. Name another 5dr fabia sized diesel hot hatch which is more worthy of ownership and as cheap to run as a vRS?

Thats just my opinion ayway :)

Good luck with the mods mate!

Edited by Skoda-Msport

Well, I've got 312's on mine, and have had for a year or 2 now. The rest of the car is standard, and the brakes are superb, much less prone to fade than the standard ones. And when I sell it, I can stick the std brakes back on it.

Jabba ARB arriving this week, and that'll be it for me and my mods. I only want bolt ons, nothing that will have to stay with the car if I decide to sell it.

In no particular order...

1. Colour-coded grill

2. Coilovers

3. LCR splitter

4. Debadging

5. Rear Dewipering

6. Widddde Euro wheels

Im actually swapping the vRS front grill for a standard one.:)
