RIP David Leslie

Featured Replies

Turns out another 2 famous names from motorsport were onboard :(

David Leslie and Richard Lloyd, Very sad, met David Leslie at knockhill a few years back and he was a thouroughly decent guy.

other 3 are unnamed as yet, 1 pilot and 1 co-pilot and A.N. Other

Glad no-one on the ground seems to have been seriously hurt.

Very Sad

...and not all that long after Colin McRae shuffled off this mortal coil in a very similar fashion... :(

Heard this on the news this morning. Very sad :(

Chris

The actual crach site is roughlty 7-8 miles away from where I work. If it had crashed in the resticted area's it would have been a steaming hole where several West Kent villages once were.

I was on duty yesterday at the time the aircraft crashed. Their approach and departure routes nomally take them over work. It could have been much worse.

Really? Usually if the MoD have a sensitive area whether that be an OFD, RNAD etc. they include a no fly zone over the area as part of the Site Safety Case.

Very sad news.

Yes I heard about it this morning , how is it that these guys have dangerous jobs , but it seems to get them going to or coming from

Very very sad :(

Sarah

Another Scottish motor racing driver dies in an aircraft crash, jesus what is happening?

RIP David, its a sad sad day.

RIP :(

Here he is in action, back when BTCC was about the drivers, and not so much the brand.

Oh yes, I totaly agree and there was a no fly zone after 9/11. But no one on the site wants to pay for it ..............................................................:thumbdwn:

Last year when the Eastbourne air show was on, 2 Euro fighters flew over the site at XXXX feet on full after bruner. We thought it was a rocket or mortar attack. Luckily I saw the aircraft on the CCTV system as they went over Sevenoaks. One call to Biggin Hill later................. ( The Aircraft were using Biggin as their base for the weekend)

Trust me fella, not for the want of trying. I was on duty one afternoon when a helicopter hovered over the site and its skids were lower then the top of the perimeter fence!! Odly enough it flew away rather quickly when the pilot saw me going for my Browning 9mm. Scared the carp out of my police dog as well.

Noted the reg marking, went to make a report no one was interested.................

Wow, this has gone from the loss of a driving legend, to almost shooting at a helicopter.

Not yet........would need a GPMG or an M60 ............

Rest in peace David. Thinking of their families at this sad time , but it could have been worse , if that house was occupied at the time , and if the pilot hadnt tried as hard to avoid the houses.

Very Sad News alright, he was one of the good guys. Will also miss his WTCC coverage :(

Good to see some of today's greats back then when they were young hopefuls too!

Chris

I hope there is a period of silence before the next BTCC meeting to remember David Leslie , anyone agree?

As much as i have been into Motorsport for....12 or so years now, i dont recall the name Richard Lloyd?

Sad news though all the same...

Damm right.

i dont recall the name Richard Lloyd?

Wonder if it's the same Richard Lloyd who used to co-run GTI Engineering back in the '80s?

They used to be the much respected semi-approved VW/Audi tuners and GTI Engineering is still about now as part of Morego.

I'll have to have a look around the more clued up VW forums.......

And a quick edit later: Yes it was it seems autosport.com - Other News: Leslie and Lloyd killed in plane crash
